Agreed. I could see them pulling one upset (possibly) if they got there. Two in a row is not likely. In 8A, they would join a number of other teams still playing that have a good chance.

It should be a good game. I am not sure who wins it, but the long trip for Niceville does not help their cause.

We don't know that. If the Lincoln kicker had made it, it does not follow that Edgewater would have fumbled the ball away on their following possession. They may have ran something else. With the ball in their hands and the game all but won, I think they may have approached their possession with overconfidence thereby leading to the fumble. Regardless, the central point you make about Lincoln giving Edgewater a game and almost stealing it, is valid. It was much closer than I thought it was going to be, and Lincoln most certainly could have won it.

I agree with you, coach Rolson, has done a very good job with the talent he was dealt. If he manages to get to the finals, let alone win it all, he should justly be a candidate for coach of the year.

No, the difference was an interception by the Edgewater defense in double overtime after they scored but had their extra point blocked. In the first overtime, Edgewater blocked Lincoln's field goal, got the ball, and for the life of me I don't know why they did not elect to kick the field goal, instead they ran the ball, and fumbled it away, thus leading to the second overtime. Edgewater was the better team athletically, but Lincoln came in with a good game plan which they executed well, and almost stole the game.

No doubt Apopka's defense is much better. The offense for an Apopka team is average (maybe slightly above average at this stage). No real stud athlete, but guys that can move the chains. If Davis-Hamilton was not lost for his senior season, I would be much more confident that Apopka makes the finals. The Seminole game presents a real challenge as they match Apopka athletically and have a very good, junior QB.

Sounds like this was a great game. Congrats, man! Apopka is still alive and plays Seminole next week at their place. Who do you think wins the South bracket in 8A? If Apopka gets by Seminole, I like their chances against Osceola or Steinbrenner.

That about sums it up. The state is probably just too big. Maybe going to a California type situation would be the solution.

If and when Apopka loses, I attend any game in the "Orlando Area" within a 40 mile radius. I have also gone to most of the state finals since 2006.

Geographically, that would actually make more sense (more for Alabama than Georgia as in the playoffs you would have to deal with Atlanta teams which are pretty far away). But it is very unlikely that that will ever happen.

In Central Florida the highs tomorrow are about 70 and rain is in the forecast. Game time should be in the low to mid 60s. Not ideal weather for football, but it could be much worse if you look at a weather map of the nation.

You think money (gate receipts, hotels, etc.) does not play an important role in site determination? If so, you are incredibly naive.

To be honest with you it is all about location. The panhandle is far away from all the major population sites in the state. And, that is the reason it does not host more state tournaments. If the panhandle had a large population it would be in a better position to lobby for more games. But it does not and South Florida is a very long way from Pensacola.

There are a lot. I would add Seminole and Escambia to the list of unbeaten teams that should win comfortably Friday.

Probably 1a. But they are not a 1A school. They game the system with a charter school whose students are still eligible to play for Madison and which servers to reduce numbers. But seriously, even if that enrollment was counted, they probably would not surpass 2a size (certainly would not be 5A). But in terms of talent, they pretty much have a lock on the lowest class. In this situation Gatorman's argument for promotion/demotion system holds currency.
