  1. Maxpreps is a ridiculous, easy, cheap, and very poor choice.

Selecting teams based on the previous season's performance is likewise loaded with potential for very bad match-ups. Teams often have flash-in-the-pan seasons that are followed up by mediocrity at best. For example, Choctawhatchee in 2014 made final four in football and posted an 11-3 record, the previous season they went 9-4 and made the elite eight. Had they been put in a superclass based on those two seasons, they would likely have gone winless, or close to winless, the next two seasons if made to play teams like Armwood, Apopka, STA, etc.

  2. Some of the single wing philosophy's strengths are that opposing coaches often underestimate its' complexity, thinking that because the offense was first developed in the early 1900's that it is simple. Another is that opposing coaching staffs have usually only three days to attempt to replicate in practice, with scout team players no less, the single wing... and really it just can't be done - so their defense will get it's first real look on the game field. They're playing catch-up from the outset of the game.

  3. A little misleading....

Neumann Goretti lost two games after the transfer, including their district championship, and would have very likely won the state championship without the transfer. No mention of her moving from Virginia to Philadelphia, either. If a kid's parents move from one state to another should the child be penalized by disallowing their participation in extracurriculars?

None of the teams that defeated or played closely with N-G faced them in the playoffs, either.

Not to mention that this is ONLY an issue because she is a good ball-player and the team she transferred to won. If she were average and/or her team had lost in the playoffs, there wouldn't have been a peep out of the losing teams coaches.

  4. Greene County 2006 & 2007; 3-8 & 3-7.

That's 15-39 in five years of coaching. Do you seriously think he was the best choice based on performance? It has been my experience that few coaches will apply for an obvious rebuild unless they'll be committed for the long haul. Usually, it's the admin who gives in to the whispering crowds after two-three years.

Washington has a long history of poor hires. Hope dude proves me wrong, but I suspect this is just another political choice that will be gone in three years, tops.

  5. Dedrick Bell's prior head coaching experience - three years at Marengo Alabama, a 1A school with a HS enrollment of about 80: (2011, 3-7; 2012, 0-11, 2013, 6-6.

I have no doubt he was the most qualified candidate. LOLOLOLOL

    what's next folks?

This past season, an Arkansas high school that had been 1win-48loss in its past 5 seasons had a dramatic turnaround due to a new transfer running back.  Originally, the player was ruled ineligible to play by the Arkansas Activities Association. So, like many transfers do, he found a loophole.  He married a female student — both are 17 years old — who already attended the school, and then he moved in with her and her family.

“We’re in the participation business,” said Lance Taylor, executive director of the Arkansas Activities Association, according to Pederson. “So, we try to get kids eligible as long as they meet the rules that all students have to meet in our state.”  Pederson reports that Rule 16, Subsection A, Exception 6 states that if a “student is married and living with a spouse … who had an established domicile in the district one year prior to the marriage,” then he or she is instantly eligible.

The player missed the opening game, which the team lost 35-0.  After joining the team, they reeled off 7 straight wins in which he gained 100+ yards in each game.  The school superintendent provided the AAA with the marriage certificate with the two students’ names on it to finalize eligibility.

Mountain Pine would have been pretty fair, and much better than usual, with or without the transfer, but one moderately fast kid (no he isn't really very fast or quick) who isn't afraid to tackle makes a difference at a HS with 150 enrollment. MPHS would have probably won 3-4 without Haywood in 2017, but his offensive and defensive play made possible three wins they would likely have lost without him.

  7. The AISA is an organization that does NOT have good football with the exception of one school. If AISA schools were allowed to play AHSAA schools, nearly all of them would not do so. The foundation of the league remains what it was at its outset. Research a little history if that's confusing.

  8. When I was AD-ing, the school's athletics department paid for one coaching clinic for each head coach per year (optional - if they didn't want to, didn't have to). Lodgings were on the coach - no PTO either.

Seems like everywhere is a little different, though.

...curiosity got the best of me.  Looked at the performance of all of those newer teams in Orlando. East River and Lake Nona are doing reasonably well, but the others have really struggled to get traction.  And with the other 3 likely district winners in the region Viera, Plant, and Lakeland...good luck.  Any reason why East River and Lake Nona have gotten traction?

Gateway finally strung together a few winning seasons and now losing possible talent.  If growth continues in central FL at this rate, can you imagine what it will look like in 20 years?

03 Celebration(7A) went 1-9 in 2017.  Except for win against Windermere, scored 6 points total in other 9 games.

09 East River(7A) went 9-2 in 2017...trending in right direction.

    03 Freedom(8A) 14-37-1 in last 5 seasons.

04 Harmony(7A) has been inconsistent since opening.

09 Lake Nona(7A) has shown ability to string together winning seasons.

07 Liberty(7A) only one winning season in 11 years.

17 Windermere(7A) went 0-10 in 2017 and scored a total of 7 points all season.

It should be noted that of Windermere's seven points, four were scored by the defense.

Can you imagine the mindset at Poinciana among the coaches, players, and fans? One would think somebody would say "we kinda got a problem here".

Poinciana - How many coaches since the inception of the school? Seems like they have new football leadership every or every other year. Can't build anything like that.
