Just as public schools have the right to be secular private schools have the right to be Christian, Jewish, Catholic, or any other religious denomination they choose. Private schools do not discriminate. Any student, religious or not, is able to attend a private parochial school as long as they have the money and meet their academic requirements. Many private schools also do not adhere to any religious edicts. Whether you know it or not the majority of American citizens proclaim to be of a religious faith. Also, if all of the private schools in this country were to shut down they would have to build thousands more schools and hire hundreds of thousands more teachers just to accommodate that many more students. Talk about taxes increasing 10 fold to pay for it. Be careful what you wish for.

I think we should all get over this "Madison is only good because they are in 1A fairy tale". 2011 - Class 3A 13-2 2012 - Class 3A 12-3 2013 - Class 4A 5-5 (probably adjusting to 4A play) 2014 - Class 4A 11-4 Madison, like Pahokee, is an exceptional team that would be competitive in any class. So, please, everyone let's end this false premise once and for all.

Problem not solved but mitigated. I switched from using Firefox and Google browsers to Internet Explorer. Videos now work as they should. I remembered this from a similar problem I had in the past with not being able to access certain sites. Seems as though Internet Explorer does not have some of the apps or add-ons that Firefox and Google have.

Do any of you computer gurus out there know how to fix the problem I am having playing videos from the Maxpreps site? I'm attaching the webpage where it shows a dark shade over most of the video when I go to play the video. It does it with all of Maxprep's videos. I have no problem playing any other videos from different media. Don't know if there is a problem with my computer not being able to recognize correctly. I used to be able to play these videos a year or so back. I'm using Windows 10. Thanks in advance for any assistance provided. https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/chaz-siddall/Wmlwab3oEemAzfp8ouYFiw/default.htm

Marion County Public Schools have announced that all school-based and extracurricular activities have been canceled or postponed until March 24. The decision is being made in light of cancellations happening worldwide due to the novel Coronavirus. The county said in a statement Thursday, ”[It’s] out of an abundance of caution for our students, staff, and community, and because of safety concerns related to COVID-19.” This decision includes all extra-curricular and sporting competitions, club-based outings, district events and events attracting more than 250 people. Visits to colleges and universities have also been canceled due to Wednesday’s directive to move certain campuses to online platforms. According to Marion County Public Schools, individual schools and teams still have the option to hold practices at this time, but no competitions or activities with other schools are permitted. The county plans to resume activities as planned starting March 25, although some cancellations are expected.

According to the Ocala Star Banner all HS football teams in Marion County will be able to practice during the spring as usual. However, they will not be able to scrimmage with another school. Don't really know if this means that the Spring Games in May won't be played. I think it is too early for that determination.

In the memorable words of Col. Jason Nathan R. Jessep " You can't handle the truth".

Actually, the public schools have a big advantage over the privates when it comes to building a football team. A public school takes from any and all of their Jimmies and Joes on campus. Many of those Jimmies and Joes are not available to a private school as some of them cannot afford the tuition, cannot meet the private school requisites, or just are not interested in attending a private school. So the privates have to scramble to put together a viable team from the few Jimmies and Joes available to them. These are the facts that should be indisputable to most.

What is so funny is that all of the public schools recruit and have been recruiting for years. Trinity, being a private school where pretty high tuition has to be paid, puts them at a huge disadvantage. Most parents of public school students don't have that type of money. Also, a lot of public school students can't get into Trinity because they can't meet the requisites. Over the years the Celtics have had just as many players leave for public schools as they have taken players from public schools. I know as I've supported the team since the days of Kerwin Bell. Brantley is a winning coach and the reason why players want to play for him.
-
Hmmmmmmm. What holes are those since you know so much? When was the last Celtic's game you attended?

You're quite the comedian. Interesting but a comedian all the same.

John Brantley named head football coach at Trinity Catholic

What you state is probably for the most part correct. However, I would take an issue with you on one item. Most of the students on the football team are at Trinity for the excellent academic program that they have which places over 99% of their graduates in higher education to include one of the top private schools in the state for placing students in the service academies and in the ivy league. For the very few football players that transfer in from public schools, remember, they are contained in that 99%. If they are from a disadvantaged family situation Trinity will accept government assistance programs as partial payment for tuition to include some private donor funds. And, in the years when the Celtics were getting a few transfers in, they were having transfers out to the public schools due to lack of funds for tuition and possibly not meeting Trinity's academic and lifestyle requisites. I still think that the Celtics are set to do very well this season as teams that have mostly Seniors and Juniors with experience make themselves known. Now, all we have to do is replace Coach Thomas with someone who can match or better his accomplishments.
-
Maybe you were not around when the Celtics were able to take on anybody and either defeat them or compete with them. Teams like TCA, Bolles, Jesuit, Gainesville, Vanguard, Pahokee, IMG, East Lake, Palmetto, Madison, University, Booker, and Mainland. All good teams and most of them in higher classifications. So, going up against Chaminade would not be something that is uncharacteristic of the Celtics. I'm really disappointed in Coach Thomas's decision to leave Trinity just when the team was getting ready to make some real noise. He already had the players at Trinity.

What happened to their HC Kepa Sarduy? And I'm wondering why Coach Thomas would go from a 3A private school that was just about to possibly go deep in the playoffs or maybe all the way to a 1A public school that hasn't been really that good for 5 years. Couldn't be the pay as I think Trinity pays their teachers pretty well. Can't imagine Union County paying any better. Would sure like to know.

Somehow I don't get it. What entity is responsible for paying football coaches? Is it the Federal government, State government, or County government? If it is in fact a government entity how in the world does Georgia pay so high and Florida pays so low? What about the proceeds from the games themselves? What about the proceeds from the Boosters? I am very curious to know how the salaries are for Florida football coaches in the private and parochial schools. Is the inequity the same between Florida and Georgia the same for the privates as it is for the publics? In the last analysis what would have to be done to change the status quo for Florida? Outside of football we have a real problem in Florida with how little teachers are paid. I can't believe that a teacher with a Masters Degree makes equal to or less than a common laborer with little education. Bill Bennett, Secretary of Education from 1985 to 1989, famously stated that if the starting salary for teachers was $100,000 per year ( and we are talking about in1985 dollars) then the US would have the best teachers in the world. We would have top people in their professions, from all over the world, lining up for teaching jobs. Sadly No one took Mr. Bennett seriously.

Andrew Thomas’ tenure at Trinity Catholic didn’t last long. After two seasons at the helm of the Celtics’ football program, Thomas notified Trinity Catholic officials on Friday that he would be stepping down. “This afternoon school president Lou Pereira announced that Andrew Thomas, Head Football Coach since January 2018, has resigned his position effective immediately,” the school said in its official release. “Trinity Catholic has begun a search for his replacement.” In two seasons, Thomas amassed a record of 13-7 with the Celtics. In the 2019 season, Trinity Catholic’s 8-4 record included a statement win over Calvary Christian — a team that was 7-1 when they came into Ocala. “I’m very appreciative to be given the opportunity to come to this program,” Thomas said on Friday afternoon. “It’s a short history, but a rich history in a short time. To be able to have two years here and put my footprint on this program, I’m thankful for my opportunity to be here.” Thomas met with members and players of Trinity Catholic’s football program on Friday afternoon. “That’s the hard part,” Thomas began. “What people don’t realize is that I spend more time with these kids than I do my own kids... Everything is on good terms, and I wanted to make sure that it was.” Thomas’ future destination, if there is one already in place, has yet to be announced. Really bad news as Coach Thomas was bringing the program back and we were looking at a Senior Laden and experienced team for 2020. The team was not quite there yet in the 2nd round against Pensacola Catholic in 2019. OH well, here we go again. Just hope that the AD makes a good choice. Is Kerwin Bell available?

Trinity Catholic football coach steps down
-
This topic really peaks my interest. I am wondering the following: *Who is the highest paid High School Head Football Coach in the state? *In the public schools does a football coach also have to be a teacher? *In private schools are there football coaches that are not also teachers? *Are many assistant football coaches not paid at all? Curious to see some of the answers.

Jesuit, I would imagine, is about the same as Trinity Catholic the school I support. Trinity does have partial scholarships and reduced tuition for the students of full time members of the church who contribute a percentage of their salary to the church per year. They also have reduced tuition through the Government Minority Grants. However the grants only pay a set amount for a percentage of the tuition as far as I know. If you know of any scholarships or programs that pay full tuition for high school then I would like to know about it.

Hmmmmmm. Is C J Spiller back in town?
-
May be the $17,000 per year price tag for Jesuit. And Gaither seems to be about as good in football as Jesuit. But, since the main purpose, at least to some folks, of going to high school is education, this would seem like a terrible move from Jesuit to Gaither.

I kind of agree with your premise. However, parents are supposed to build men of character. A coach is supposed to build a football team. That takes extreme knowledge of the game and the discipline to impart that knowledge to each and every player. Football is all about execution. If each player is trained properly any team should be able to execute like clockwork. Just my take on this.
