  1. Approximately how many transfers in and out does Columbia have on average every Spring and Summer? How does it compare with most other schools in their classification? Do any of those transfers in greatly enhance the capability of the team? IMO just 1 exceptional key player can change a team from average to very good or exceptional. An example would be the time that CJ Spiller was at Union County or Tebow was at Nease.
  2. Unfortunately it's not just the people running the athletic departments in these schools or even the HC. You don't think that all of the faculty, the principal, the students, to include most of the parents, don't know exactly what is going on? If they don't then they are deaf, dumb, and blind. I think they either don't give a hoot or are too afraid to say anything as long as their teams win. That is the world we live in these days. I'm quite sure there are many schools where local talent is all that is used for their teams because they care more about the students well being instead of their egos or desire to win at any cost. I am most surprised by the parochial schools that are supposed to teach morals, ethics, and fairness. Instead those religious people would rather see their own local students sit on the bench and rarely play by importing mercenaries to make the team into something they really are not.
  3. I am certainly not picking on TCA as Trinity Catholic is in the same boat as the Conquerors as we also pick up transfers from the public schools for what is primarily for sports. I'm not in favor of it but that's what it is these days. Personally I'm for the old FHAA ruling that a player had to wait 1 year after the transfer to be a regular player. That virtually stopped most transfers for sports only. All I was stating is that any team 3A or below, that gets 8 transfers, will completely change the makeup and outcome of that team. What about the players who had been with the school for many years and find themselves sitting out every game because some transfer dropped in from wherever in his Junior or Senior year and has no real affinity with the school beyond sports. This may be the reason why there are only a handful of schools, out of 2,237 high schools in Florida, that are competitive year in and year out in football and in some cases other sports.
  4. Well, obviously any small school that gets 8 top transfers isn't going to be scheduling the Sisters of the Poor. The reason that any small school could even hope to compete in 5A is due to top flight transfers and certainly not from home grown talent alone. Just look at the championship teams in all divisions and you will see schools that have quite a few incoming transfers every Spring or Summer. When Pahokee was a powerhouse they used to play higher division teams and defeat them. But, Pahokee did it without transfers. I believe the reason they are not still the powerhouse they once were is simply due to lack of quality coaching. I could be incorrect but this is the way I see it.
  5. Considering that only 1 key player, in a small school, can make a ton of difference. As an example, Union County had CJ Spiller who made them one of the best teams in their division the years he was a student pretty much on his shoulders alone. 8 top players, for a small school, gives them the championship hands down. 95% of all schools get no transfers and never win much of anything. I guess that's where we're at.
  6. That may be the one redeeming part of the entire process. A handful of players may get full or partial scholarships to colleges for their commitment to play football for their entire time at college. And, hoping that they do not get injured or cannot make it academically. So, you are correct in that regard. The thing that has always bothered me is that academically superior students get far fewer scholarships and which are much more difficult to attain than do students engaged in sports. At least that has been my understanding.
  7. There are approximately 1,036,842 high school football players in any given year in the United States. 1% of these players would mean that 10,368 players go on to play NFL football in any given year. There are only 1,696 players total in the NFL in any given year. Approximately only 255 players per year are drafted into the NFL. Which is only 7% of "eligible" College Seniors which is 3,500. Or .00025% of eligible high school players. In other words a high school football player has a better chance of getting kicked by a Mule than he does of getting into the NFL. Not trying to be a wise guy HornetFan just going by the stats. If you have some other figures please feel free to provide. What I think we are both trying to say is that for every CJ Spiller there are thousands of half way decent players who will have played their last game before HS graduation day or that will disappear into the fog of a D2 or D3 gridiron.
  8. I have not seen Allen's name on the IMG roster for this season although he was a Junior last season. Did he drop out of IMG? That would be a tremendous loss to the Avengers considering that they lost a whole bunch of talent to graduation especially QB J J McCarthy. I do know that they will probably replace most of their starters with somewhat equal talent. However, the super players they had for the past couple of years are now gone.
  9. Charming. I can tell that you're a well educated person by your grammar and lack of sentence structure. Whatever school you are or have attended has not provided you with much of an education. In the past I have defended some of your preposterous remarks and dissing of other folk's teams. No more. If I were a player for Madison County I would certainly separate myself from a buffoon like you. Have a nice day.
  10. Well then, I guess there really is no reason for classifications is there? Let teams play whoever and whomever they want. The two teams with the best records and stats play for the state championship. Or, the team with the best record and stats is declared the state champion.
  11. So, tell me, what is the reasoning for classifications if a team in Class 6A or 7A cannot defeat a team in 1A? How is it possible that a school with 2000 or more students cannot stay on the field against a school that has 500 students or less.? Might as well have no classes and anyone plays anyone else. Some 6A and 7A teams have nearly 100 players while many 1A teams have 30 players or less. Also, the resources that a 6A or 7A team has over a 1A team is considerable. And, yes, I would say that any 6A or 7A team that cannot compete with a 1A team should be embarrassed or at least review their program to see how this is possible. TCA, Trinity Catholic, and Chaminade are considered good teams in Class 3A (TCA now in 2A). But if teams like Columbia, Buchholz, Vanguard, etc can't compete with and defeat them then the onus is on the higher classification teams IMO.
  12. ColumbiaFan May I remind you that Madison County is a 1A school with a little over 500 students. Columbia is a 6A school with 2,000 students. How many players does Madison dress? How many does Columbia dress? And, I dare say that Madison's schedule may be as difficult or more difficult than that of Columbia. You guys should be embarrassed even scheduling Madison during the season. And should hang up your jockstaps if you ever lose to them. One gets a little tired of hearing people put down a team that has been one of the top teams in Florida for years. I know that Jesse can be a tool at times. But the team is a winner all the way and should be respected as such. Just saying.
  13. Talk about a parking nightmare. The stadium itself is large enough and can probably hold 5,000 or so. But the parking area can barely hold maybe 200 cars and I don't think there is room enough to build a large enough parking lot. At least when I've parked there. However, I actually like that stadium as everyone can see the field clearly from every position.
  14. Daytona Municipal Stadium does look like a pretty nice stadium and seems to have plenty of parking. However, I can see where LPGA Blvd, pretty much being the only entrance and exit street, could pose a problem for the thousands attending. The city should be able to figure something out, though. It's not like rocket science. After all it's the home stadium for Bethune-Cookman College and both Mainland HS and Seabreeze HS play their home games there. Do they have the same problem?
  15. Flutie went to Boston College in Newton a suburb of Boston. Berklee College, where I went, is in Back Bay located in downtown Boston about 5 miles away. I would never have met him as he was 1 year old when I graduated in 1963.
  16. In Ocala, which is 75 miles below Jacksonville, we sometimes get down in the teens in December. All I can tell you is that at game time it was well below freezing at Episcopal. I have never been so cold with exception of winters in Boston attending college.
  17. I remember attending a playoff game at Episcopal High School located right off the St. John's River in Jacksonville. Must have been late November or early December, if I remember correctly. I grew up in New York where it gets really cold. Well, this game was really cold. So cold that you could hear the crackling of the trees and plants and I think I could see my breath. Lasted the first half and that was it. There was really no place to go inside to. So, I can see how a game played in Tallahassee, which is somewhat farther north than Jacksonville, might not be the ideal place for games in December.
  18. Really, I don't know what you're trying to prove. IMG is a sports training facility that advertises that they train in a variety of sports. Part of this training of course means that they have to test their skills against other players and other teams. What would you have them do play only scrimmages against themselves? IMG plays only some of the best teams in the country. They are not beating up on inferior teams like many of the other Florida powerhouse schools that pad their schedule and build their reputations playing mostly nobodies. IMO the teams they play against recruit big time so they are basically doing the same as IMG does except that IMG is honest about their intentions. Once again, IMG forces no team to play them and, although a member of FHSAA, they have agreed to not participate in any playoffs. You have every right not to like them or their agenda. It's still a somewhat free country. But I, and others, have the right to like them and their agenda without having to apologize for it.
  19. Just remember, no team is forced to play them. Every season they seem to easily fill up their schedule and some of the teams on that schedule are Florida teams. So, really, what in the heck is your point Columbia? Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
  20. 2013 was IMG's first year of High School Football in Florida. TCA and Naples both defeated IMG by very close scores that season. IMG is lightyears better today than it was in 2013. Not saying that TCA would not at least still give IMG a game.
  21. I don't think that Acosta has been a coach at any school for more than 1 year, has he? I honestly didn't think that IMG was that good on defense during his tenure. Good offense that could always get the job done and would be able to bale out the defense in some games. I watched all of their games and the defensive players just seemed to miss an awful lot of routine tackles and looked sloppy at times.
  22. Hoping that Coach Brantley gives a call to Coach Dorminey now that the Celtics have no possibility of meeting TCA in the playoffs. OTC needs tough challenges in order to get back into championship form.
  23. What is the current assessment on TCA for the coming season? From what I can see they lost their starting QB, a couple of RB's, and a leading WR. They also seem to have lost a few starting defensive players and their kicker. Any ideas?
  24. Unfortunately I must admit that I kind of agree with you. We did lose a lot due to graduation including our top RB Samuel. However, we still have our starting QB who will be a Senior. I'll be able to better assess the team closer to the season.
  25. Won't they have to play the 2A teams in their district?
