  1. Teams I can see beating armwood

    Vanguard

    Lake Gibson

    Gulf breeze

    Crestview

    Niceville

Any of those 5 have the ability to beat Armwood

    Outside looking in

    Navarre

    St Augustine

Those 2 have punchers chance but I don't see them making it far enough

Columbia, why do you believe Niceville will win in St Augustine? I've seen neither team or read anything about them. One would think the Yellow Jackets at home are the favorite.
  2. Final

    Vero 28- Sebastian 6

Vero left a lot of points off the board should of been more.

Vero moves to its third straight undefeated regular season.

Fun fact, Vero has yet to give up a sack this ENTIRE season.

    Thanks for the updates Trelle
  3. It was the type of runs they were running.... Dan you know we don't see that type of offense down here.... Great game tho!!!

Zoe, that's why Apopka gives even athletic teams trouble. Nobody see's that style, and they always have good athletes and great coaching. That's a tough trifecta anywhere in the state

  4. No but I followed them the year they played Camden ..... we was out of fla in 5hrs... Left that game and drove down to Jacksonville n spent a night there...

I was there Zoe. They couldn't stop the pass and the Rocket's couldn't stop the run. Great offensive game to watch. Big time power ball.

  5. You got a team you would want us to play?

I'd be game for a home and away with Mainland and Columbia. Bucs last played you at the Disney Complex in Orlando. Believe it was in '00 or '01 and Mainland lost in a close one. Think Danny Green was your head coach.

  6. They don't have a field to play on!!! All games are on the road. Unlike most Florida counties, Volusia does sports on the cheap. Ballfields don't come with new schools. At times they play games at two nearby high schools ( Deltona, Pine Ridge ). In which both of these are of a very poor quality. There is a growing movement in that part of the county that an area sports complex could be an economic boom to those Deltona area communities. This is long overdue. It's an embarrassment to many local residents.

  7. Interesting ....on both facts about Spruce Creek.  Perhaps the new 2017 open borders rule will build their already pretty good football team and athletic programs...

Broward, don't think that hasn't crossed the mind of many a Buccaneer fan. Both schools reside on the same street (Clyde Morris Blvd) and are 7 miles apart. Basketball players already go south to Atlantic High and Spruce Creek. (Atlantic is in the middle, 1/4 mile off the same street, between the two )

  8. I'd be remiss not to mention that Spruce Creek, without a doubt, is the all-time high school weightlifting King of Florida. Since its inception in 1974 as a FHSAA sport, the Hawks have dominated the state in the number of championships. Boys-25, Girls-9 (2004 start)

  9. Shoutout to the Andy Price lead Spruce Creek Hawks and their district championship. They've had some lean football years there at SC despite being the largest school in Volusia County. Great academics and the top combined boys/girls sports programs in the area. Before coming to the Hawks, Coach Price took Warner Christian Academy to the state finals on three separate occasions. If they had a few more athletes within their reach they'd give the large Orlando schools hell every year.

  10. Definately not the Trinity Catholic of old that's for sure, I remember those days of beating Vanguard, Forest, And North Marion routinely, their is something missing since coach Brantley left and it hasn't been the same since that 2014 season

Any correlation in the downward trend of OTC and the rise of Vanguard and Forest ? I might be a hater, but was just wondering. Have they cut back in recru..ah.. enticing athl..ah.. students to enroll ?

  11. Well again you are wrong. DP has lost close playoff games and in my opinion it has nothing to do with the mentality of the team. When have we given up in a playoff game?

Ever think we may have just lost a couple straight blackjack hands? Sometimes streaks are the opposite of consecutive titles. The law of large numbers will even out.

That was your man Darter talking about mentality. Mid, you seen to have a comprehension issue. Remember,  Avenues - North and South, Streets- East and West ( City Planning 101 ).

  12. 954 Gator, I hate to blame officials for any loss, but they didn't do Mainland any favors. Mainland didn't ever stop them on offense, so it looked to be a 45-44 type game. Bucs recovered the opening on side kick, but an inadvertent whistle cancelled the recovery. Bucs down 17-0, come back score 17 straight (17-17). Kickoff deep, recover fumble, run it down to the 5 yard line. Officials rule Mainland player, who made initial contact with kick returner, ran out of bounds to avoid block then came back in to hit receiver. Film showed otherwise. He was blocked out of bounds. I've never seen that call before. Also it didn't help that the promoter ripped the school off of $10K, and air flights were cancelled and at the last minute Mainland took a two day "Bus Ride" to Cleveland. St Edward's was a great team, but they fumbled 3 kickoffs, Mainland recovered all 3, but got credit for only one. Polite is a good kid. If he ever gets a nasty streak like ex-Mainland Buc and current Jets DT Leonard Williams, look out.

  13. That 2003 Mainland team tho...talk about defense....

That was a great all around team. O,D, and Kicking. There were 5 D1's on the defense. The current DC for Mainland(Travis Roland) was 1st team All-State MLB on that 2003 team. He is a very smart guy. And was one of the best open field tackler's I have ever seen.

Seabreeze is a beach school. Maybe 200 yrds from the surf at most. 95% of their athletes were bused in from the other side of the intercoastal. Miss the bus and walk 10 miles home. Their long time HC (Beach) brought the Spread offense to Daytona 15 yrs ago. He saw the hand writing on the wall (kids want to be closer to home, athletes or not) and took the $$$ in Georgia. He's the OC for Tifts County.

Atlantic High (1995) took in some of Mainland's fertile athletic territory. Not so much football but basketball. Mainland was a state Champion in '95,'96,'98 in Basketball. Most of the team now is made up of football players. So no year round hoops. Mainland doesn't have a full team until after the Christmas break.

  14. Totally agree with all of this

I thought they'd take a step back this year with the slip in talent level from the last few years but they have not missed a beat

FLFB, the key is Sr QB Denzel Houston. He's the best to ever wear a Mainland quarterback's uniform. Through seven games he has been unstoppable. Mainland will go as far as he carries them. Next year that's another story and another rebuild.
  15. The 11-1 team in 2013 was upset by Plant but was super talented. Basically every team would have competed in the title game for the given year minus 2011. Apopka beat DP in the final four in 2012 (38-19) but that was a team DP had beaten prior in the year.

The playoff losses have been close the past three years

    2015: by 1 (round 3)

    2014: by 3 (round 3)

    2013: by 1 in OT (round 2) --- best team since 2010

Also Dan, DP does fight. They've overcome big deficits over the years. Your post was just nasty - you have seen 2 games. No fight? Mainland DP was 14-7 in the 4th quarter and a pick 6 and a long run by Mainland sealed it last year. Sorry our players couldn't catch Killins, who you boasted about for years. Heart can't make you run a 10 second 100.

Chip on the shoulder syndrome? The players and the coaches are clueless? How? What the hell are you talking about? Do you GO to practice? Do you KNOW Rodney Wells and what he means to the team and former players?

That's a lot of shade to throw from 50 miles away. You are trashing the whole program.

Ok, where do I start. First off, The Mainland players are "clueless" to the fact that they don't always have the most talented team. Mainland has the "chip on their shoulder." Or some might call it an inferiority complex. Every game is a manhood challenge for Mainland regardless of the opponent. Sorry for the confusion. That better ? Now get this part straight. At no time did Dr Phillips in the two '15, '16 games with Mainland look like the better team (IMO). Both were 20 point wins. Our most resent games with Ft Pierce Central(2), American Heritage-Plantation(2),and Miami Central(4) were eye opening. Bucs went 3-5 and could have been 0-8. Dr Phillips showed me little of what those others did on the field. Didn't see it. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not.
  16. I can tell you this much, I've been on KP's staff at DeLand and he will have those boys ready to go, focused on the prize and flying to the ball on defense!! Keep sleeping on Sebastian River, they are gonna shock some teams this year!! Good luck Sharks!!

From reading the other board (FlaVarsity) it appears KP has built a "D" like the one at Deland. That '09 team looked a lot like Mainland West, only wearing Green. The movers and shakers of that little ole boy town weren't to pleased with that much diversity and the Bulldogs have never recovered. See: Deltona,Orange City,Trinity, and now Sebastian River.....Mainland coming at you, no playplay here.

  17. Is it just me or since the state title game in 2010 against Central that Dr. Phillips hasn't been the same.

Slick, I saw that title game. It was close. I believe some of the coaching has changed. I'd look there first, but I got no knowledge. They are a big team and have many D-1 type athletes. More then Mainland for sure. Darter and Pipe Dreams would know the answer to your question.
