  1. Darter, you're to "logical and precise". We're talking "high school kids." It's not between the ears.
  2. Nulli, lets see how delicate I can put this and not run afoul of Josh's heavy hand. It appears most of Polk's success is after Florida's integration of the races in 1970. Also lets give coach Bill Castle a shout out for laying the ground work and showing/teaching followers how it is done. If I'm not mistaken H.O.F. Coach Rick Darlington falls into this group. Much like Brevard's county's coach Gerald (Jerry) Odom and his followers/students/ball players. My wife has family in Plant City. I've been there, seen the strawberries, and seen a little of the mining operations. Throw in a few cows and horses and I've haven't seen much more "industry". What "BROUGHT" in the large group of African-Americans that to this day keeps rural Polk County with an endless supply of D-1 athletes. What's over there ? It can't be the water, Pasco county and Zephyrhills got that.
  3. Impossible, with two weeks, to overlook a team 14-0. Mainland's head coach ( Travis Roland ) was a 1st Team All-State LB'er on Mainland's only Championship team (2003). He brings plenty of intensity and wisdom to the table. I may have seen more talented Buccaneer teams in the past, but you can rest assured this one will give 100% heart and effort to win that game and the title that comes with it.... Buc Forever.
  4. Homer prediction : Mainland beats Lake Wales and wins the 3S title. ( Lake Wales ain't Miami Central ).
  5. Jeez, I bet Jambun sleeps in his officiating uniform.....shoes and all. Rumor has it, he threw a flag on a lady friend the other night for " Roughing and illegal touching." Seconds later, he picked up the flag .......with a smile on his face.
  6. I think so ( Cable TV ? ). Sorry to say can't make the trip south...Buc Forever.
  7. Nulli, double foul, penalty for piling on, and unsportsmen like conduct......30 yards.
  8. Agree 100%. Unlike some my experience with the FHSAA has always been good and I generally try not to pile on knowing their hands are somewhat tied in decision making and 50% are going to be pissed off regardless of what they say or do. ( "Perspective" made the same point on another thread.) Scheduling is totally their call to make, and there is no excuse not to have it out weeks before the finals. Families and teams must travel. Plans must be made ahead of time. No way should the FHSAA drag this out.
  9. The football side can be informative and very funny at times. The Off-Topic is depressing, tiring, and enraging.
  10. Yeah, but that can change in a heartbeat, a tweet, a sound bite, or a lie.
  11. It pains me to agree with you, but I must
  12. To quote Lee Corso, " Not so fast my friend." Chaminade-Madonna is undefeated and beat AH-P 42-34 this season...better recognize
  13. Cocoa....a diamond in a sea of mediocrity
  14. Ray, where did that 59 come from ? Not doubting you, but who are the 8 counties that don't play FHSAA football... just curious if you know.
  15. Don't remember seeing this, but please refresh my fading memory. Adjusting enrollment numbers a little may be in order : 4M vs 4S 3M vs 3S 2M vs 2S 1M vs 1S All eight teams above are "Champions" either Metro or Suburban Champions. But the four game winners are "Florida State Champions." All the older gentlemen out there remember pro football's AFL and NFL's separate championships. The FHSAA could add the four "Super Bowls" and many of our differences with the brackets would go away. Food for thought. Pardon me if this dead horse has already been buried. It's new to me
  16. Tonight I attended my 13th Regional Championship Final with my alma mater Mainland High School. I've now witnessed 8 region title wins and 5 losses since 1998. And the opponent Jenson Beach was, without question, the weakest third playoff round team I've ever seen. Unless a dozen starters or so missed the bus to the stadium, how did they win 10 games ? They were small, slow, and not particularly athletic. When the members of "3 Suburban" were first announced many thought it appeared very thin with quality playoff contenders. Nothing I've seen so far has changed my mind on the subject. Mainland next plays at Ft Myers Dunbar and Lake Wales host Columbia High from Lake City. In two weeks one of these survivor's will be a state champ. Why not Mainland ? Buc Forever.
  17. I like the crisscrossing. Sorry your school can't afford it......wash some more cars. Also that Miami Central could play Miami Northwestern in the final. Or any number of neighboring powerhouses from the same area. ....SB ?
  18. Ray, I think they call it sarcasm... tongue in cheek
  19. Many, many, good ideas/opinions have been proposed on this thread. I like Nolebulls, Venice, and Columbia's six classes . If you're the best of "any 100 schools" you get a trophy. I also agree with Cribboy and let's allow metro's and suburban's to play "UP" like in the past so the truly best teams aren't knocked out early. Let Miami Central, MNW, AH-P, or any school play in the bigger classes with STA or Miami Columbus. I too, like most, don't like the unlimited transfers. BUT why restrict an athlete, many of whom are disadvantaged, from movement to better increase his chances for exposure and success in the only field he excels in when other students with high academic strengths, musical talents, are other performing arts skills can transfer to the best schools their parent's money can buy. Columbia is also right about are current political environment. Freedom for one is freedom for all. My son is good in football. Your's is a mean saxophonist. Let them go where they want or can afford.

You are correct. And in looking up the Choctaw team I was shocked to see it is coached by Mr Frank Beasley. To many of us old message board posters from Rival's Flavarsity ( Darter, Laz, Coach Ty, Mark, Wave, Eric, Tony, etc ) Mr Beasley was a beacon of hope, respect, and fairness as an administrator with the FHSAA. I can't speak for all you helped, but from me , thanks for everything. Good luck coach.

But too repeat....without the south Florida monsters, it's a sunny drive in the park.

(IMO) .... Agree. (IMO) as a whole, 4S is as good if not better than 4M. But 2M and 3M are vastly superior to 2S and 3S.

Hey, all 8 are playing with House Money. Once Dade (Miami) was eliminated from the equation, IT'S ALL GOOD...Wide Open...
