Gotta clean up the turnovers though. 7 last night and 4 against Atlantic, can’t beat good teams beating yourselves...Hopefully, we can get J. Washington back sometime this season. There’s a difference between him and #9 and #24, he didn’t have any crutches last night, so maybe that’s a good sign

As a Vero fan, gotta say how impressed I was at Pahokee last night. Your facilities are top notch, fan support etc. For a 1A school to schedule (and beat) the larger classification schools shows just how much Pahokee’s program and community does with your athletes and resources.

As you said, were it not for the turnovers, you win this game easily. It obviously comes down to Pahokee and Madison County again this year as the 1A favorites. Good luck going forward.

DP should go 6-4 or 5-5, and will probably be a favorite in round one of the playoffs. The schedule is brutal.

Then comes Vero Beach or Osceola in all likelihood if DP makes the second round. Osceola was up on DP 7-3 in the third when starters came out in the kickoff classic.

The Apopka margin was very surprising. This team is young, but is certainly not garbage as our resident tough guy likes to refer to HS athletes. They have fought through a tough schedule that also included a 31-28 loss to a very strong West Orange team.

Looking forward to seeing their progression through the season. Maybe we will pull of an upset or two. Mainland (this week) and Wekiva (in three weeks) loom and present an opportunity.

Vero has to make it there first, their district is very much improved this season with SLW Centennial (4-0) putting up a lot of points and Treasure Coast (3-1) who has a win over Cocoa and played Mainland very tough. Vero is still the favorite obviously, but by no means is a foregone conclusion they win this district.

Vero Beach beat Venice on the road to go 3-0 in week 1

I think the point of the thread is surprising teams off to a 3-0 start, Vero has started 3-0 since 2011, and rarely lose early in the year, playoffs are a different story. Was a surprise to see them win openers at Oscar Smith in Virginia last season and at Venice  this year though.

Vero Beach is going to states this year mark my words

In 8A, I think the favorite in the North has to be Wekiva, especially after their impressive win bs North Gwinnett this weekend up in Atlanta.

In the South the favorite has to be Atlantic to make it back to Orlando, especially after their dismantling of Dwyer this weekend.

Good luck to Venice in making it back to Orlando in 7A, gonna be tough though, STA looks to be back this year.

Well it is actually happening next year we have a two year contract with Vero Beach. This year we played them at home next year we play them at their own field. It’s week 1 so probably no citrus bowl

Vero’s home field is called the Citrus Bowl, that’s great, always nice to see such a quality program as Venice instead of some of the cupcakes we normally see.

If you guys can beat Pahokee in the road than you’ll be fine. Also an FYI we play you guys at Vero Beach next year so be ready

I don’t know if this was a home/home agreement, might be a one off (like Vero’s game at Oscar Smith last year,) but if it is, would love to see Venice at the Citrus Bowl in Vero!

What’s your opinion of Richards (21) from Wellington? I have seen him dominate the hs level to be this elite recruit...Just my opinion.

Heard a lot of hype about him and Vero shut him down on both sides of the ball, maybe if he had a better supporting cast it would free him up, but he is all everything for Wellington- he can’t do it by himself against quality teams.

I think once he gets to the next level he’ll probably stay at receiver, Wellington has him playing everywhere on both sides of the ball in addition to fielding punts and kickoffs. The poor kid was completely gassed and beat up by the end of tonight.

That made me laugh.  Back in the early 2000's I visited the Citrus Bowl and saw Chaminade beat them pretty badly.  I was sitting on the Vero side and I remember hearing comments that led me to believe the fans had no clue who they were playing.  Everything was pointing to Chaminade being a powerhouse that year.  The Vero fans were talking about "some little 2A school" as if the game was going to be a laugher. Even the radio announcers didn't seem to know anything about Mark Guandolo and what he was capable of.

Doesn’t surprise me, I quit sitting over there a long time ago, during a playoff game in ‘89 or ‘90 I think. Manatee had come over for a playoff game (they won the state title that year vs Southridge) and Vero fans were calling them the Bradenton Manatees and couldn’t figure out why they had hurricane warning flags on their helmet, I TRIED to explain that their mascot was the hurricanes and who Manatee was and their history. Their response was that it made no sense because the hurricanes wear green and orange and had a U on their helmet.

Any real knowledgeable Vero football fan sits on the visiting side near the train horn which is also home seating.

Bro u my dawg and u kno we cool asf but Vero has to be the unlivkiest team in the history of Florida all these undefeated regular seasons and no rings like for some teams going undefeated in the regular season is history but I want to know if Vero fans is tired of going undefeated in the regular season only to not make it to the finals let alone win it . At some point that has to be mentally deflating to a organization

Sometime in the mid to late 90’s Vero changed their scheduling philosophy from bringing in tough schools from Orlando, Miami and elsewhere to now bringing in the likes of Wellington, Dr Krop and Ft Lauderdale. There are still some bright spots such as the KOC games (Dwyer, Viera) opening game (Oscar Smith, Venice) and the yearly Pahokee game.

I can remember Vero bringing in the likes of Orlando Evans (during their heyday) yearly and Southridge, etc for these games. In my opinion, Vero’s scheduling issues have alot to do with their weak late district games and rivalry game with Sebastian River to close out the year, it’s been months since they were tested and when they are during the playoffs, they lack the mental toughness to respond.

It’s not just Vero though, in this area the population just allow the weekly murderers row that the Dade county and now Orlando schools have to contend with yearly just to make it to the playoffs, and I think it shows starting with the 2nd round playoff games. No school from this area has even played in a state final since St Edwards in ‘89.

Honestly though, I can understand because the average Vero fan at the game has no clue who the team they’re playing is, or their history, if Vero was playing STA, most people at the game would have no clue who they were and if they were any good, so Janikowski is giving the Vero fans what they came for, a probable Vero win and a great band performance, lol.

Any Vero Beach fans make it to game? Hawks fan here, missed it, thoughts on how teams looked. Obviously , a close game. I will get my first look at Viera next week at Rockledge. Should be a battle.

Vero shows all their games on YouTube if you want to see it:

Long time Vero fan, sloppy game on both sides from what I saw, but that’s to be expected being a KOC.

Vero’s weakness is what they thought it would be: the O line. Vero QB Celadonio was under pressure all night and they’re running game was virtually non existent. Lots of penalties on both sides, lot of cramping and injuries on both sides (all legit from what I saw despite Flotech’s assumption.)

Viera looked down from last year, but so does Vero. Lots to work on for both teams, To be honest I’d say both teams are in real trouble next week: Viera (Rockledge) Vero (Venice.)

Our oline will be mostly Seniors this upcoming season

Seniors that didn't play much because they were juniors sitting behind graduating seniors last season, so those early games (Viera, Venice) may be prove to be a tough learning curve.

  13. Groody is an excellent coach, he should do well there, being an STA alum he knows the culture expected at a private Catholic school like John Carroll.

John Carroll/Vero have had ties for a while as Coach J previously coached there and they have mined the Vero staff previously for their head coach search.

Meaning that is terrible scheduling by Pahokee. Why would they travel up there 2 years in a row? Make it a home and home.

Vero pays them to play in Vero every year-  alot of schools make more $$$ by playing in Vero than they do from the gate in their house, not saying this is the case with Pahokee, but that is why teams play in Vero's house year after year without a return trip from Vero.
