Strictly for feedback again: As a Vero fan, one thing I can tell everyone is that both Centennial and Treasure Coast impressed the hell out of me this year. It looks as though these two will join Vero in the playoffs (3 out of the 4 teams in this district) and I for one would pick them over the higher seeded team they’re playing, as it stands now they’re 3-4 in the region points standing, but due to the fact they won’t win the district due to losing to Vero, would most likely end up as the 5-6 seeds.

No worries, I appreciate you having the cojones to put it out there knowing you’d get heat for it, I couldn’t do it that’s for sure.
-
Totally understand- if the teams had identical or similar records (First Coast is 3-4 while Baker County is 5-2 so it’s not quite apples to apples.) Vero is 8-0 and yes they’ve had close calls this year, but still unbeaten against some decent competition most weeks. But I think head to head match ups should count more than anything, because it’s the only true barometer of “what if”- you know it because it was decided on the field already. In this case I’d keep Vero above Venice until they lost a game then you could drop them like a rock. But this is all speculative and it’s the Columbiahighfan top 50, not the Dontez top 50 so you can use whatever criteria you see fit. You now know what the CFP committee goes through each week...lol

I don’t want to be overly critical of your rankings, I know this is your opinion, and I get it, but to have Venice (7-1) at 20 and Vero Beach (8-0) at 28 doesnt compute to me, Vero beat Venice by 22 points in their house.
-
I didn’t say that, but it’s tough to beat the same team twice in a year, and both games could have gone either way. I’m sure both teams would relish the opportunity to have another crack at Vero.

As a Vero fan, I didn’t think the officiating was bad, and I do think TC was a very disciplined, well coached team. Vero has been forcing turnovers on everyone this season and they didn’t have a anything close to a takeaway last night. The Centennial/Treasure Coast game in two weeks should be another barn burner. Good chance all three teams (Vero, Cenntennial, Treasure Coast) make the playoffs, and either Centennial or Treasure Coast will be a tough out in the first round for whomever. I know Vero doesn’t want to see either one of these two again this season.

This season Jahfari Harvey (Miami commit) is better than Reese was last season in my opinion.

The O-line is pretty much all new from last season, the Viera KOC game was evident of that, the line play was abysmal, but they are improving. Pahokee’s D line ran roughshod on them, though. i think you may see Vero lose possibly this week or next (more likely.) After the Centennial game their sideline looked like a war zone with many starters down due to injury. I don’t know how many of those injured players will be back this week, but both Westwood and a big physical Treasure Coast team will come into the game after a bye week. Having played 9 games straight, Vero may very well limp into their bye during week 10.

I’m gonna have to agree with Floridatech and Old Schoollion on this one. I’ve been a Vero fan for over 30 years, and I see them out in the 2nd to 3rd round again. Teams in this area just don’t have the hard nosed “nastiness” that you see in the Dade County and elsewhere elites, and usually get exposed 2nd or 3rd round. If there is a slight difference this year is their district: Vero Beach, Centennial and Treasure Coast (without mentioning a scrappy FP Central) are a combined 15-2 with wins over Venice, Pahokee and Cocoa, so whoever wins this district will have to earn it every game. IMO: Vero ‘s playoff issues stem from coasting after game 3 and not being tested for nearly 2 months (due to a weak district) and once they are behind there is a sense of panic as a result. This season, Vero has been behind multiple times and has had to either come from behind or hold on to win. If Westwood and Treasure Coast play as they have this season, Vero has their hands full until their bye. If they somehow manage to make it through to the end of the year, they may be better equipped for the playoffs this year. BTW: I thought this was a thread about Columbus...lol

Rockledge next week, IMG on the 12th

True, Wellington won last night too

Vero’s schedule could hurt them, they look beat up right now and their bye week isn’t until week 9. FP Westwood (4-1) took their bye this week (before playing Vero.) And Treasure Coast (5-1) is taking theirs next week (before playing Vero.) Both these teams will come into this game I would think relatively healthy and I would guess Vero may have injured players.

Both of the TcPalm reporters picked Centennial to win (may have more to do with not wanting to pick against the home school while inside their gym though.) https://www.tcpalm.com/videos/sports/high-school/football/2018/09/26/prepzone-road-st-lucie-west-centennial-high-school/1427547002/

Gifford High School merged into Vero Beach High school due to the end of segregation.
-
While is doesn’t have the state appeal of the above games, there is also Vero Beach(5-0) at Centennial(5-0.) This 8AD8 matchup will show if the Eagles are for for real or not, Vero won 30-3 last season.

As a Vero fan, gotta say how impressed I was at Pahokee last night. Your facilities are top notch, fan support etc. For a 1A school to schedule (and beat) the larger classification schools shows just how much Pahokee’s program and community does with your athletes and resources. As you said, were it not for the turnovers, you win this game easily. It obviously comes down to Pahokee and Madison County again this year as the 1A favorites. Good luck going forward.

Vero has to make it there first, their district is very much improved this season with SLW Centennial (4-0) putting up a lot of points and Treasure Coast (3-1) who has a win over Cocoa and played Mainland very tough. Vero is still the favorite obviously, but by no means is a foregone conclusion they win this district.

I think the point of the thread is surprising teams off to a 3-0 start, Vero has started 3-0 since 2011, and rarely lose early in the year, playoffs are a different story. Was a surprise to see them win openers at Oscar Smith in Virginia last season and at Venice this year though.

Vero Beach: https://www.youtube.com/user/VBHSFootball games are streamed on the night of the game and usually taken down soon after.

Venice vs Braden River and Champagnat Catholic

In 8A, I think the favorite in the North has to be Wekiva, especially after their impressive win bs North Gwinnett this weekend up in Atlanta. In the South the favorite has to be Atlantic to make it back to Orlando, especially after their dismantling of Dwyer this weekend. Good luck to Venice in making it back to Orlando in 7A, gonna be tough though, STA looks to be back this year. -

Yeah, well Vero’s wheels always come off during playoff time, at least ya’ll have a couple championships during the last two decades, Vero’s only one came 37 years ago... -

Vero’s home field is called the Citrus Bowl, that’s great, always nice to see such a quality program as Venice instead of some of the cupcakes we normally see.
