If there was no committee and only the AD, then I would agree that everybody who applied for that job got kind of a raw deal. I wonder how many interviews happened before he made his decision. I just want to keep an eye out to see if some of these other former head coaches don't start trying to make moves back into the HFC chair. And, at a school like Windermere it seems weird. School was only one year old. Why didn't he apply to be the head coach instead of the AD last year? Maybe that's why Miller decided to leave after opening the school and only coaching the first season (although that's just speculation on my part at this point...)

that place was a train wreck in year 1.  offense of the week, scored 6 points all year.  a veteran guy with some years under his belt should have been tabbed as the guy, in year 1, not after.

have heard the school itself(administratively) is similar to the train wreck that the football season was.

not sure anyone even applied for that job, locally at least.  the chicken salad/chicken $hit adage, they didnt get any of the "dudes" from west orange.  anyone that was zoned for windermere, signed up for woodshop at west orange and didnt have to go.

funny how things work out like that huh.

Hmmm....makes you wonder what could of been if Jones High didn't petition to get moved up to 5A this year.

they would have lost to cocoa, thats what.

the transfers that cocoa had(posted on the video board how many they had come in) rivals that of what jones has.

the game was a slug fest for sure.  raines has as many fast kids as anyone in the state, and they can play ball!

I couldnt believe how they didnt utilize the monsters they have on the OL more and just beat cocoa into submission.  when they ran the ball, it was very effective, i felt like they passed way too much. 2x2 gun stuff is fantastic and is seen everywhere on fri/sat/sun, however how about line up in the I and just beat the hell out of the team across from you.  with a great RB and some true hogs up front.  no need to be fancy.

could cocoa guard the swing RB 1 time?  he was open as a check down all friggin night!!!

i truly didnt understand why cocoa tried to run inside the tackles.  it wasnt there, save for 1 play.  with that being said, the amount of drops by cocoa skill kids was off the charts(not just on offense either).  any of those balls caught and the game may have been quite a bit different.  the TE up the seam late that was just missed, wow.

fun game, hope the rest are as good as last night.

kudos to both squads.  you put on a show for the state.

  3. you think an hour is early enough?

i know normally they sell presale tickets at both schools, cant imagine its not 2500 capicity, maybe.  DP prob brings that many people by themselves.

  4. how packed is that stadium going to be tonight?

from memory, it was very small the last time I was there.

standing room only game?  not sure if I want to go stand and watch or sit in the sardine can.

I figured they would struggle this season, but as a head coach, if you take that job, it's definitely more than a one-year project. Unless something else amazing comes along for that coach. Idk the situation, just thinking out loud.

the stink of it all, in my eyes is read the fhsaa post!

no teaching jobs til next fall and no PE.  so who is going to take that and be a lay coach all spring and not have a real chance in the school to build a rapport with faculty or kids at least til next fall.  thats a tough job.  i dont envy the guy who takes over

Isn't Windermere just a year old? Wonder what happened there

tough to win there with former apopka admin and ad. I would think expectations are real high, but they didn't get west orange best kids, nor will they.  3classes, no,seniors and they are 7a, in a growing like a weed area.  Will surpass capacity in 2 to 3 years.

    All good lol.

i went 4-4, rough week for me...

    This week I got...

    Wekiva 28 - Boone 7  Too much D.

Apopka 28 - Winter Park 27  Apopka start to get hot I can't see them losing in this one.

Dr Phillips 21 - Osceola 24  Osceola survives with a game winning field goal. 50/50 game should be a great one similar to there last playoff meeting.

Vero Beach 31 - Riverview 21. Don't know to much about Riverview so give Vero the nod.

if, the nasty word that it is, dp former OC hadnt put some crazy wild cat in and let that kid throw the ball, which ohs returned for a td, that game isnt close at all.  Marvin was more than capable as a runner and a fantastic passer of the ball.  was at that game and couldnt understand why they chose to go wild cat, with horses dP has.

they dont have those same kids anymore.

i think this game is alot better than anything else on the plate friday.

    Interesting.

That's how East River finished 9-1. They avoided competition.

    yes and no.

    look at their district

    windermere-new program winless

celebration-since the lyman staff left they have fallen back to old storm

    liberty,

    harmony,

st cloud, lake nona, the only legit teams that could win the district, besides east river.

the non dist games were timber creek(forfiet win, they lost the game and the points for the forfiet put them in the playoffs, harmony may have gotten in if not)

cypress creek-falls into the celebration and windermere category,

university-orlando, their best players the last 2 season have transferrred to east river, they too fall into cypress creek category

freedom-always a 3.4.5 win team.  not since andy johnson have they been good.

so what did ER do?  with all the non metro games, they were forced to pick up those bottom 3, they won them, as they should.

and to KRUNKs thoughts-they had zero category 1 win or even played a cat 1 game.  but they did win 8 of them on the field.  sure does make that new staff look like they know wtf they are doing!

heres a thought, make the category wins worth alot more than the category 3/4 wins.  i know its already like that, but make it really worth the while to schedule a tough team.  beat a 8-2 team and you deserve alot more points than beating 0-10 windermere.  not just 10,15 more.

West Orange had a nice season.

Agree with Krunk about scheduling. They were probably a 7-8 team in region 1 under the perfect playoff system but no one schedules western Orange County teams. That is a fact and is why DP and Apopka always play each other.

When you create bubbles like that the teams just devour each other into lower winning percentages.

West Orange County is loaded with talent. The only area of the state with more talent in a smaller area is 305.

i dont disagree with the western orlando playing each other because nobody else will.

    however.....

when the county AD from 3-4 years ago would say this in those january meeting of the minds that control orange county football,

"we will take care of ourselves before we travel out of county, the metro is more important than anything else"

and they still feel that way.....

put 19 teams scheudles on the white board, put your district games up there.  any similar openings between teams and HE WOULD MAKE YOU PLAY EACH OTHER, no question.

it may not be the same now, but it has been like that for awhile now.....

I stand by everything I have said to you for the last 2 weeks and to the FHSAA for the last 2 months.  Qustions/Concerns?

Hats off to Andy Johnson of Boone HS - WELL PLAYED MY FRIEND! Perfect scheduling, perfect seeding, perfect result.  Coach Johnson is a good friend and excellent ball Coach and played this season perfectly to the numbers. Hats off! You deserve it.

    Dawg, Thoughts?

Dan of Daytona, question about my doubts of District 1? District 3 won by over the average of one of the primary goals of the point system - less blowouts, test study was 31......Wekiva and Apopka when by well over average of that. The Idea of stronger districts, also a reason for the playoff change, Totally NOT following that intention here.

OH but wait there is a district runner up in between those 2 teams, wait a team that BEAT one of those teams and lost to the District champ by 7 points with the ball driving to tie.

YES West Orange 6-4 with 3/4 Cat 1 games is better than an entire District decided on the only Cat 1 game played was the contest between the 2 of them.

West Orange, yes, yes, any of you that know me know I don't whine, I'll take my lickin'......but when you start screwing kids opportunities I tend to speak up, because, well, we are the adults.

West Orange won on Thurs to a good Lyman team, who could have given 1 or 2 a run tonight. West Orange put up 70 and held the Greyhounds to 32.......

oh but Olympia, yeah, shoulda, but don't let that score fool you 8 of their players were gone for tonight's game, removed since we have played them, one being a Power 5 RB.

YOUR NUMBERS TELL YOU ANY OF THAT?

And you got the best 8?

Get out of the way and let the kids play.

    this season.

absolutely.  Coach Johnson is a good dude.  He finally got rid of the problems and is taking care of business on the offensive side to compliment the defense.  before his coordinators(sometimes himself) 1 side was always holding them back.  but he finally got it figured out.

great schedule and to be the runner up to a good WP team, with some of the best transfers not at jones, Boone deserved to get in and play a really good FPC team.

round 2 will be alot of fun for Coach and the Braves!

  11. was pretty shocked to see the 70 spot.  lyman is a solid team this year.  years to come, im not so sure... unless they got alot coming back, the lower levels(jv/9th teams) were pretty bad.  but...

70 thru 3 is impressive.  nice job coach.

so you want to add a round to the playoffs?  so we extend the season another week? is that in the front or in the back end or do we eliminate the by weeks and play straight thru.  or eliminate a week of games and just play 9?

something has to give in your idea.  not a bad one, dont dislike it.  but isnt that watering down the playoffs?

wasnt that the goal?  stop the bs from entering the playoffs?

its not the system itself they have in place,  its the point spreads.  losing shouldnt count nearly as much as it does.

    for example

you schedule 10 playoff teams from last fall and go 0-10, they all go 10-0,9-1,8-2, so you earn 33 points per loss

how friggin close are you to qualifying?  i know its unrealistic and your not in the playoff hunt with 330 points/33. per game,

but it sure is close.  too close for comfort i think.

  12. rocket arm, saw him last year roll left and throw 60+ on the run across his body.

they drop him 7 steps in the gun to accomodate the big arm.  silly in my mind.  who has that kind of pass pro to hang on while he gets 12 yds deep from the gun to throw.  teams just pinned their ears back and flat rush him from every angle.

i know a guy who coaches on the staff that talked to michigan coaches and they are very excited to get him up there and away from what he is being taught right now.

bright future for that young man when he gets coached

  13. lighten up johnny boy, this isnt FNF from the olden days.

wins and losses do count.  thats why the system is what it is, right now.

the wins dont count nearly as much as they should and the losses count for too much.

just because wo beat apk that means they should be in??? gimmie a break.  any given friday night.  you know that.

is your schedule tough?  sure thing, but some cream puffs there too, freedom, cypress(who lost to colonial and for gods sake, which stakes my above claim as any given friday) evans and ocoee.  combined for a total of 10 wins between them........

now what ya say, lets go to hagen o'reileys for a brewski or are we going to clermont to wob?
