  1. Delaware Valley (PA) just this past week announced on their Facebook page that their Florida game with Winter Park has been postponed from 2020 to 2021. Time for WP to search out a replacement team for their second game of this year. I seriously doubt many, if any, teams from northern states will be journeying too far out of state during this upcoming football season.
  2. Orlando City Stadium - the perfect fit and location for FHSAA State Football Championships. The 2019 Cure Bowl between Liberty and Georgia Southern was played in the Orlando City Soccer Stadium before 18,158 fans. Stadium Facts 25,500 - Capacity 360° - Lower Bowl 8,400 sq. ft. indoor Club 10,000 sq. ft. open air Supporters’ Terrace All natural grass playing surface 100% privately financed Canopy to enhance crowd noise and provide shelter from sun / rain Field sunken 8' below ground level to offer spectacular views from street level All natural grass playing surface Single deck safe-standing supporter section Expansive fan plaza spanning 10,000 square feet
  3. Winter Park still shows Delaware Valley (PA) visiting WP in the second game of the season. I seriously doubt that will happen. What will be interesting is what Florida team will fill that vacancy.
  4. This is why it is so important that these kids find a school where they feel they belong. Too many have stars in their eyes and look at how football will lead to the NFL. Most players that make it to the NFL have very short careers. It's important that the kid leave college with a marketable skill that will carry him through life. This is where the role of the coach and teacher is so invaluable. An 18 year old kid knows nothing of the world beyond going to school and playing football. The coaches have to guide these kids so they make decisions that will enhance their chances of success in life.
  5. You will almost certainly have to sign a form indemnifying them against any liability that may arise from you receiving the shot. That means no compensation and you give up your right and the right of anyone else to sue them.
  6. You just made the argument for championship games being played in either Tampa, Orlando, or Daytona. Of the three central Florida locations, Orlando has the perfect combination of hotels, restaurants, highway access, and a new, perfect sized stadium. It also makes it possible for those fans that want to make the round trip in one day without overnight hotel costs to attend their kid's game..
  7. I had a bad case of the flu about 40 years ago; every muscle and bone in my body ached for two weeks. Since that experience, I have made sure that I get my flu shot every Fall. When they get a vaccine for this virus, I will get the shot(s). It's going to be a problem if this vaccine receives the same resistance from people as we see for flu shots each year. They're preaching that the only way to stop the virus is a vaccine, but we have a society that is allowed to choose if they want to be vaccinated.
  8. What's really effecting a lot of these kids is losing Spring practice and lack of exposure to college recruiting coaches, as well as college campuses being closed. Kids aren't able to attend college football camps or make visits to potential schools. With HS practices not yet being open, private coaches are cleaning up right now running individual and group training sessions. Some of the kids have tried to organize unofficial group conditioning and practice sessions during the virus shutdown and reopening, but people call the police on them and they get run off. They move from location to location trying to play some football.
  9. I don't think Covid-19 will have much effect on transfers. Most kids had already transferred in January so they would be eligible for Spring practice and the Spring game; it's just like the kids coming out of HS early starting college in January to get a jump on the Fall season. Winter Park had about a half dozen kids transfer into their HS in January; my oldest grandson was one of them, moving over from Bishop Moore. Who knew the virus would come and wipe out Spring football?
  10. The FHSAA announced that football players will be allowed to play up to 6 quarters of football each week. This appeared in an article in Orlando Sentinel yesterday. Schools that were having trouble putting enough players on their JV and Freshmen teams will hopefully benefit from this new rule. A player can play a JV game one night and still be eligible to play 2 quarters in a varsity game that same week, or put in a half of a JV game and them play an entire varsity game.
  11. You're going to have to sign a release of liability just like they do with the flu shot each year.
  12. I'm a UCF season ticket holder and it's a great stadium for a game if you have 45,000 fans in the seats. The kids playing for a state championship deserve to play in a stadium that doesn't look like it's three quarters empty. That's why the Orlando City Soccer stadium would be ideal; plenty of hotel rooms for overnight stay, holds about 20,000 fans, located in center of the state with easy access from several highways. It's almost too good a fit.
  13. FAU is too far south for schools in the panhandle.
  14. If you go to the main page, you'll find an "Off Topic" section for non-HS football related discussions. If people want to discuss race and sports, police, demonstrators, looters, etc., a section has already been established for that.
  15. The soccer stadium in Orlando would be a good size for the championship games. It's also centrally located in the state.
  16. I thought "The Huddle" was supposed to be for HS football topics.
  17. It's not a great time to be an Oviedo HS football fan. Oviedo has gone through several football coaches in the past two seasons. They had the hazing incident this past season. Players have transferred to other schools, including two quarterbacks that played most of last season's games. Fortunately, they have a very good QB who will be a sophomore this coming season. They just lost one of the best running backs in the state to graduation. Their problems started a few seasons ago when Hagerty HS, the newer high school in Oviedo, starting picking up some of the better talent coming out of Oviedo's very good youth football programs. They need to name a coach real soon or this coming season could be a mess.
  18. If that's the case, any football player transferring from NW should face at least a few games suspension at their new school. For them to condone cheating, the FHSAA would be sending a mixed message if they penalize a school and then allow those players to go about their merry way moving on to another school and never missing a game. When it comes to illegal transfers, both the school and player(s) are penalized by the FHSAA; this shouldn't be different.
  19. If you don't somehow place a penalty on the team (players), not just the coaching staff, you send the message that you're willing to allow NW to have a competitive advantage over teams that followed the rules and did not have the benefit of training as a team during the pandemic shut down. If these players don't know right from wrong at 16-18 years of age, they will carry that same sense of entitlement into their college years and beyond; they're not innocent children.
  20. Thanks for your kind words regarding my opinions last football season. We'll just have to agree to disagree on the risks associated with playing football this season. Have a great day. I hope we have a football season to discuss this Fall.
  21. I have two grandsons playing HS football in Central Florida and they are fully aware that organized practices are forbidden, not only by the FHSAA, but by the Governor's office. They work out individually, or in small informal groups organized by the kids themselves. They don't have the benefit of football coaches instructing them at practices during the pandemic. These players are not children, they're young adults and should know that cheating should not be rewarded. In life, if you're caught cheating, and they were, there are supposed to be consequences.
  22. If it comes in the Fall, and that's a big "if" unless you want to politicize the virus, our doctors, scientists, and leaders will be better positioned to deal with it. By isolating our senior population, of which I am one, and practicing social distancing, wearing masks in enclosed areas, and good personal sanitation efforts, our younger population will be able to attend school and participate in school sports. Kids have enjoying their extra two months of Summer vacation this year with hardly skipping a beat. It's the media, politicians, and school teachers sowing fear in the population. If a kid lives in a home that has a senior citizen at risk, maybe that kid skips team sports. You don't penalize the entire student population because of the fears of a few. If we did, we would close all schools every Fall because of the flu, a virus that kills more young people each year than the covid-19 does.
  23. So, you're saying the end justifies the means. Better to go along with cheating than to risk not winning a starting position. The FHSAA could make every one of those players that participated ineligible for a year. What do you tell kids on opposing teams that didn't have the benefit of possibly two additional months of team practice?
