    • The video of the Gaither @ Lakeland highlights where the Gaither players were exiting the field at Bryant Stadium.  It is hard to tell what is happening but it appears that some Gaither players are fighting some fans.  I would assume these were Lakeland fans.  Was anyone there that actually witnessed this?  Do know actually what and why it happened?  I’m not referring to the incidents on the field after the game.  I would like to know what happened with the fans and the Gaither players actually getting into it.  Does anybody know?
    • Agreed. At least in spirit even if open transfers are now allowed.  In a perfect world, we would have four large public school classes where everybody has to stick to their boundaries. Unfortunately, our corruption as a society has trickled down all the way through Sports. Most evident to me “college” football, which is now completely ruined.

    • An interesting game to say they least. Doc Phillips dominated with their running game in the first half, grinding out 3-5 yards a pop, and coming up with a timely pick in the end zone to take a 6-0 halftime lead. After that, it was all FPC for the next 19 minutes and 30 seconds as the Cobras got the passing game going with crossing routes, quick hitch passes and one beautiful deep TD where AJ Hill beat the corner and safety to make a spectacular 48 yard TD catch as the Cobras took a 21-6 lead. They picked off a DP pass at the 3 yard line to stop a scoring threat with over 5 minutes to go, and started another drive. Facing a 3rd and 8, QB Drew LaPlante hit Hill for a first down, and Hill continued to fight for yards after the catch, but fumbled, giving DP the football around their own 40. They used a long QB keeper to get a first and goal to punch it in, cutting the lead to 21-12 after the try for 2 failed. With a little over 3 minutes to go, DP attempted an onside kick, but FPC recovered. The Cobras went 3 & out, and had a short punt that gave the ball to DP around their own 35. DP scored again, with (IIRC) 41 seconds to go to make it 21-19. Another onside kick fails, giving FPC the football with 38 seconds to go. DP has all three timeouts left. In that situation, you need to run the football to the WIDE side of the field, telling your RB to...PROTECT THE FOOTBALL and get what you can without going out of bounds. Do that 3 times and you'll run 10-15 seconds off the clock. Instead, FPC coach Mike Watkins decided to go with three kneel downs, which only took around 6 seconds off. FPC punts. DP muffs the punt and FPC recovers, but officials rule that the return man was interfered with. There's like 25 seconds left. A couple of plays puts the ball around the FPC 20 with 5 seconds to go. The FG unit comes on, and the kick is wide....but FPC roughs into the kicker, putting the ball at the 10, where the kicker makes it. DP scored 16 points in the last 4 minutes. As with anything else in life, there's always plenty of blame to go around. If the FPC WR just goes to the ground after getting the first down, they probably win because it eats another two minutes unless DP burns all of their timeouts. If the coach runs the football to the wide side three times, they probably win, because DP doesn't have enough time to get in FG position. If FPC doesn't rough the kicker, they win. OTOH, kudos for Doc Phillips for not folding down 16 with 4 minutes to go.    This will be out last Florida game for the year. We are back in Tennessee at my in-laws for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This coming Friday, we hope to attend the Class 4A semifinal game between powerhouses Alcoa and Greeneville. That's up in the air though, because the low temperature Friday night is supposed to be 24 degrees. We have our winter gear stored at my in-laws, but 24 degrees may be well out of our comfort level after living in South Florida the last 8 years. On Saturday, we have a regional championship game to go to, a semifinal game the following week and hopefully the Class A & AA championship games at Salem the following week, all providing the weather is decent. You never know what you'll get. We've seen 2 state title games in Virginia where the temperature was around 80+, and a couple where it was blue cold, including one played at JMU were it was in the 20's for the last game. If we make all 5 games, that will put us at 41 games on the year. That's a lot of football.
