I agree with you. Dillard went undefeated last year but lost in the first round of the playoffs. I was rooting for Dillard but when I heard they lost I was like damn. Maybe the schedule played a factor but having St. Thomas on your schedule will have you battle tested.
The Kickoff Classic game with Chaminade @ West Boca we went to on Thursday before the Vero games was brutal too. The heat index was 106 at kickoff and there was no air stirring at all. I nearly wept with relief when the sun finally set over the Loxahatchee.
Man… I hear you sayin you all in… and I respect that. You gotta be wired that way to line up against a team like that in the first place, noimsayin.
But lemme ask you somethin… when the last time Dillard held that trophy up? I ain’t even bein funny—I’m genuinely askin.
See, that “look good on paper” talk… that sound nice. Real nice. I done said it myself more times than I care to admit. Usually right before I lost money I didn’t have to spare.
Meanwhile… the other side of that paper you talkin bout? That ain’t just theory. That’s receipts.
Seven straight.
Now where I come from—FAMU days, back when I thought I had life and women figured out—if one side keep showin up with proof and the other side keep showin up with potential… that ain’t exactly an even bet.
Remind me of somethin I saw at Publix not too long ago… lady come through my line with two carts, three kids, and a birthday cake slid halfway sideways like it done gave up on life. She calm as can be, kids hollerin, cake leanin… and she just look at me and say, “we gonna make it work.”
Now I admired the confidence… I really did.
But that cake told a different story.
That’s kinda how I look at this one.
Now don’t get me wrong—I ain’t sayin Dillard can’t compete. That ain’t what this is.
I’m just sayin… this ain’t one of them situations where “on paper” is some neutral ground.
This more like one side bringin a résumé… and the other side bringin a cover letter.
And hey…
I done hired off both before.
But I always read that résumé a little closer.
I agree. Especially in south florida you have to have the Jimmy's and Joe's and xs & os, 1 with out the other and youre not gonna do much of anything.
It's also to note in broward we dont just have really good schools to go through that another really good school can compete with. We have national powerhouses aka the st thomas, American heritage, chaminade madonna those aren't your avg teams to beat them you have to have a national team as well with dam good coaching. Because if not you may can compete for a quarter or two if you have a solid program, but thats about it.
Love to here it. We wouldn't want them at nothing but their best. Two very good teams on paper going at it on the panthers home turf. I wouldnt have it any other way.
