How can you possibly justify using maxpreps when they are filled with inaccuracies? They literally will rank teams who don’t even field teams. The scores can’t be trusted. I have seen scores for teams from different states on a FL teams schedule because the random out of state team has the exact same name.
This is crazy
I believe the wording in this document is misleading, as the Open Division has always been explained as the top 8 ranked teams in 2 brackets (#1/#8; #4/#5 and #2/#7; #3/#6), with a double-elimination format until the state-semifinals. So it’s not really pool play, but to your point… when has football ever been double elimination? Why are they making it so complicated? I believe the reason the FHSAA is adding in the possibility of extra games is because these top 8 schools will be losing home playoff games (and revenue) they would otherwise be hosting were they competing in the regular brackets. We’ll see if this can get any more convoluted.
The recommendation for the open division(pool play) is flat out RIDICULOUS! This is football! Not basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. Very simple...8 or 16 teams in a bracket and go from there. With pool play you can run into tie breaker situation that just over complicate things. My God! The people in charge are idiots!
