5. Oxbridge Academy at Flanagan
When: Friday, 7:00 p.m. ET
Where: Flanagan High Stadium, Pembroke Pines
Why: This match-up was a last-minute addition to the schedule for both teams as Flanagan who initially sought out to play Miami Central for this week couldn’t after the Rockets had already agreed to play Clermont East Ridge. However, the turmoil that started just after spring football at Oxbridge Academy ended up forcing some changes on the ThunderWolves schedule. Those changes came after West Palm Beach-based school removed several top school officials including head coach Doug Socha. The situation forced the team to cancel a highly regarded national match-up against DeMatha Catholic, citing the trip was too expensive, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. All of that led to this game being scheduled and it certainly will be an interesting one. However, with all that said the season got started off last week on the right note for Oxbridge under new head coach Brendan Kent. The ThunderWolves rolled by Seminole Osceola 49-0 for a preseason kickoff classic win that saw starting quarterback Charles Richardson throw for 143 yards and three touchdowns, according to the Tampa Bay Times. For Flanagan which didn’t participate in a kickoff classic this past week, will be looking to see how they do under first-year head coach Stanford Samuels Jr. who was the defensive coordinator for the Falcons’ state championship run last season. Overall, expect both teams to challenge each other to the entire game.
