    7A - R2 ended up:

    1. Lakeland
    2. Viera
    3. Plant
    4. Harmony
    5. Sickles
    6. Kathleen
    7. Wiregrass Ranch
    8. Lake Nona

    Matchups are:
    1. Lakeland vs. 8. Lake Nona
    4. Harmony vs. 5. Sickles

    2. Viera vs. 7. Wiregrass Ranch
    3. Plant vs. 6. Kathleen

I completely missed Gaither beating Tampa Bay Tech. They were an 11 seed after week 10. That win moved them up to a playoff spot and knocked Lake Nona out.

True, but what if they also have the announcers or press in the press box make the updates real time along with the stats. Allowing the coaches to make any corrections the following day.

In a perfect world, that would be great. I’d be shocked if you could get 50% of teams to consistently do it.

So anyone want to talk about the QB situation at Lakeland that year?  It could be a big fish tall tale but there was always the rumor he should not have been playing in that game due to um..... some criminalistic issues LMAO.  I was too young to know just heard the barbershop  tales growing up.  Also heard lots about the officiating.

Nothing I ever heard. I was 11 at that time. I've had the chance to meet and talk to Shane over the last few years. His son and my daughter graduated together.

  4. That was an exciting time in Lakeland. In '87, Manatee and Lakeland would be grouped in the same district and Lakeland didn't see the playoffs again until 1993.

On a side note, without some legal action by a group of Lakeland supporters, Lakeland would not have seen the playoffs in '86. The FHSAA made them forfeit their early season victory over Winter Haven, a vital district game, due to an alleged ineligible player. Lakeland got a court injunction and were allowed to participate in the playoffs as district champs. The FHSAA's case was dropped in early 1987, allowing Lakeland to keep the state title. Many Lakeland supporters believe the FHSAA held a grudge against Lakeland for many years after that for taking them to court, and not just accepting the forfeit.

Wish I could find a better version of the title game, but I got this off of an old VHS tape that I had to fix to get it to even play.

Here are the Vero & Sandalwood games leading up to this game.

The way to fix that is to only let coaches or admins at schools have control over maxpreps team features and not allow any fan with a account to be able to do it

This is going to be a double edged sword for Max Preps. If they do this, things may get more accurate, but it will not be as 'Real-time' as it is now. A lot of people go on Max Preps on Friday night to monitor scores. If the scores do not get put in until Saturday or Sunday, it will really decrease the amount of traffic they get on their site.....and that may not be good for those who pay to advertise on their site.

I consider these types of posts "team efforts" and that's what I really like about the forum.   I can put it out there and count on you guys to identify the errors and omissions, which I inevitably make.   It's all about bringing recognition to great players, coaches and teams of the past, so we never forget about them.  They paved the way for the fantastic game we have today.

It was painful bringing up Manatee. Growing up in Lakeland in the 80's, then graduating from Southeast High......they were not the top team on my 'root for' list.

    nona,

    liberty wins

    boone loses(which is a good 90% chance)

south lake wins(puts them up  a category and gives liberty more points)

    nona will lose to weikiva

Lake Nona and Liberty also have St. Cloud in the mix, who plays Discovery. St. Cloud should win that game. It would move them up to a Category 3 win for both.

I have Lake Nona edging Liberty 38.3 - 38.0. With the following happening....

Lake Nona loses to Wekiva (38 points)
Liberty beats Lake Region (35 points)
Boone loses (Cat 3 win for Nona)
St. Cloud wins (Cat 3 win for Nona & Liberty)
South Lake Wins (Cat 3 win for Liberty)

Also, with Liberty winning, it will move that up to a Cat 1 loss for Lake Nona and increase their total by 5 pts.

What about Manatee? I think they had 8 playoff appearances, 3 state titles, 15 playoff wins.

And they were the thorn in the side of Lakeland from 87 - 92. Hard to believe Lakeland missed the playoffs 6 straight years after winning it in 86. There were overtime games and 3-way tiebreakers that Manatee always seemed to prevail in.

  9. The top of 7A Region 2 should be interesting. Viera could finish anywhere from 1-4. They would need some help to move up to 1. and the teams they are counting on have some pretty tough games. Lakeland is locked in at 1 or 2 with Plant at 2 or 3 and Harmony at 3 or 4. I'm expecting it to work out to 1. Lakeland 2. Viera 3. Plant 4. Harmony 5. Sickles 6. Kathleen 7. Wiregrass Ranch 8. Lake Nona

Since Lakeland has no game this week, it should be fun just to sit back and watch.

  10. This is the problem with the FHSAA using Max Preps for any kind of "official" ranking/standings in any sport. Max Preps still has Carol City undefeated, even though they had to forfeit their first two games. Max Preps really relies on users giving them accurate information and correcting inaccurate info.....which I have rarely seen happen.

  11. Anyone hear if Cypress Bay had to forfeit games? According to Max Preps, they are 5-4. But the most recent FHSAA release has them at 2-7. Did a quick web search, but can't find anything indicating they had to forfeit any games.

I ain't worrying about Lakeland quite yet

2015 i was all ready for us to play Lakeland in 4th round then they lost to Viera and I had to go digging to find out who the hell viera was

This time I'll focus on our region and if Lakeland makes it I'll focus on them when the week comes

We all had to do that in 2015. :)

There are two big positives I see in Lakeland this year.

    1. They do not have the ego's that have been on the team in year's past. That is a big thing that has been noticed by those who are around the team on a consistent basis.

    2. They have shown consistent improvement this season. The past few years, they have peaked in the middle of the season, then struggled offensively for the last 4-5 games of the season. Especially in the QB position. This year, they have returned back to a traditional Lakeland style offense and Ski McWilliams has been getting better and better each week. Not to mention he is finally healthy after struggling the first 5 or so weeks with a hamstring injury.

What this will amount to......who knows? But it's been fun to watch so far.

In fact has Lakeland trailed at any point this season?

    Trailed early to Apopka 6-0.

Also, Winter Haven led them 3-0. I guess that is technically trailing.....until Lakeland scored 48 after that.

I have nothing but respect for Lakeland and their program

I just find it irresponsible when it seems people want to start booking St Thomas Aquinas vs Lakeland like it's already a lock

I don't think anyone has booked Lakeland to come out of the north. In the end, we all defend the team we support. Lakeland (City, school, alumni, fans) all have very high expectations for the team every year. Yes, there is legitimate criticism for Lakeland's schedule (see my previous post about scheduling hits & misses). But, we'll find out how good they really are starting next week. Then, one way or the other, the proof will be in the results.

As stated earlier......even in championship years, Lakeland never had the toughest schedule. So, we'll see over the next few weeks how that works out this season.
