  1. No chance Corey Davis. If you said chance to make the playoffs you would be right but to win it all the list is very small. It looks like this.

    Madison Co

    Trenton

    Dixie Co

    Ft Meade

    Pahokee

    St Joe

    Blountstown

And that is stretching the list out.

Teams like Hamilton, Newberry or Lafayette won't even make the playoffs, how could you say they could win state??? That's like saying Keystone Heights could win 4A. SMH.

  2. Ft Meade was probably the 5th or 6th best 1A team last year. Just goes to show you how bad those 5-7A teams are down there that they beat up on(Hardee, Bartow, George Jenkins). Trenton, Madison, Pahokee and Dixie and probably St Joe all beat Ft Meade. They were good no doubt and the RB was a stud. I'm sure they will be loaded again.

  3. I gotcha

    1. TCA

    2. Booker T

    3. Chaminade

    4. American Heritage

    5. Madison Co

    6. Cocoa

    7. Clearwater Central Catholic

    8. Raines

    9. Trenton

    10. Bolles

    11. Oxbridge Academy

    12. University Christian

    13. Glades Central

    14. Port St Joe

    15. Dunnellon

    16. Trinity Catholic

    17. Tampa Catholic

    18. Dixie Co

    19. Ft Meade

    20. NFC

    23. Blountstown

    24. Pahokee

  4. Columbia beat Bartram Trail because they weren't very good. I've seen that kid in person, he looks great on the hoof but not sure how good a Qb he is just yet. What you have to realize Columbia is the difference between being good and being Elite! Columbia, GHS, Niceville, N Marion and teams like that are really good. They make the playoffs and in their part of the state they are thought of highly, but none of those teams are elite. Elite teams beat the best teams they play, not every time but enough. The teams I mentioned hardly ever beat the best teams they play. I think you get offended when people cast off Columbia as not being Elite, it's because they aren't. That doesn't mean they aren't good and you shouldn't be proud of them. But when people talk grand scheme of things in the state Columbia is not going to be mentioned. A few years ago Trenton was in the same boat, they lost in the region finals then the state finals= not elite. Win a state title, then another one= Elite. Just my take on the situation, love the conversation though.

  5. Columbia has a good program and a great history but that picture sums them up perfectly. They are a region finalist type team no matter what division they are in. The reclassification took place in 2011, the 5 years prior you guy were 2010 no playoffs, 2009 2nd Rd, 2008 no playoffs, 2007 2nd Rd, 2006 1st Rd. Since 2006 here is what Columbia looks like:

    No playoffs: 2010,2008

    1st Rd: 2006, 2014

    2nd Rd: 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013

    3rd Rd: 2012,

    Semis: 2015

Hate to break it to you but facts are facts and they say Columbia is the fish in the middle. 😕

  6. Columbiafan, the few kids you may get is NOTHING compared to the kids they get in S Fla. The kids that transfer to Columbia are trying to go to Valdosta St, the kids transferring to STA are going to Alabama. See the difference?? Suwannee, Hamilton and Baker combined may have 2-3 D1 kids on all of their rosters combined, and you aren't getting those guys. Even if you did that's not enough compared to the S Fla guys unfortunately. I glanced at the transfer thread and saw in the last 2 weeks STA has gotten a 3 and 4 star player transfer in and That's not going back to January. It's like they are shopping at the grocery store to prepare dinner and you are shopping at the 7/11. Which dinner will be better??

  7. I understand they are part of the FHSAA but they have chosen to not be a part of the playoffs. So why should they have a say in how the playoffs work?? If you are a part of what's going on by all means you have a say but if you aren't why are you dictating to others? It seems they should have asked these people for their opinion before things got to the point that they decided they needed to go independent. Now they are trying to fix something that they had a hand in breaking.

  8. So the FHSAA sent out stuff and coaches voted what they wanted. Here is what I don't understand, have 70-80 independent schools and they sent them these votes also to try to convince them to join back in. They are NOT a part of what we are doing so why would they have a say. They chose to do their own thing so why do they have the same influence as a St Joe or Dixie Co that hasn't walked away from the FHSAA???? Just makes no sense to me.

  9. Hard to believe you guys overlooked someone in the state semis and haven't been to the state championship game in 20 years. It's not like that was common place for the program to be there. Unfortunately for schools like Columbia that may be the ceiling with the new transfer rules. The county may have only so much talent and with no one to gain elite talent from you guys may be topping out with no way to get better. While everyone else us getting better by getting transfers.

  10. The 7A list looks like this.

    St. Thomas Aquinas

    Everybody else 😉

  11. 7A is the weakest large school division for sure. If you take St Thomas out what do you have left??? Braden River was probably the best team in 7A not named STA. Look at the north semis, Viera and Columbia. Viera lost 4 regular season games and Columbia lost to Escambia at home who didn't even make the playoffs. That was the 7A north final 4.

    8A final 4

    Osceola

    Flanagan

    Columbus

    West Orange

    7A

    Columbia

    Viera

    STA

    Braden River

    6A

    Central

    Armwood

    Naples

    Tate

6A and 7A north is where both classes are the weakest no doubt. But I believe Armwood beats both Columbia and Viera probably 60/40 with Braden River. Think Tate, Columbia and Naples are roughly the same team. All good teams but not elite when talking the top of the state of Fla.

  12. They are trying to appease a bunch of schools that don't want to compete at the highest level. Everyone knows most of those schools that are independent don't want to actually do the things it takes to be at the top. They want to be able to have a football team and say they can make the playoffs but don't want to play teams that eat sleep and breathe football. You will never make everyone happy and the problem is the classes are watered down but you will NEVER hear the FHSAA talk about cutting a class and eating into their profits. If they really wanted to fix the playoffs and get all winning teams into the playoffs cut a class expand districts. This would eliminate 3-4 team districts and make everything better but it will never happen. One can hope.

  13. Yes, I saw that team and Columbia is a quality program but that was 20 years ago and teams weren't pooling talent anything like they do today. All that being said Columbia still didn't have enough to win it all and probably won't anytime soon the way things are set up. Madison Co and Glades Central are the only schools that are somewhat separated from large cities that have been able to compete at higher level classifications. You look at Columbia, great history, quality coaching, drawing from a talented county. Haven't made the state championship in 20 years and usually only good enough to get to the 2nd round. While you look at places like Carol City, Northwestern, Central, or BTW. All have had times of dominance in the last 20 years. Primarily because of the talent deciding to go there mixed with good coaching.

  14. Well in the larger classes you have basically a large school all star team to deal with in every class. 4A Booker T, 5A American Heritage, 6A Central, 7A STA. Not complaining but those schools are drawing from the most talent rich place in the USA and it shows. Jacksonville pools their talent to TCA, they win championships. Tampa used to pool their talent to Armwood and Plant, they won championships. The only cities in North Fla large enough to do this are Jacksonville or Tallahassee. Tallahassee doesn't have enough athletes to support several schools. Godby was getting kids a few years ago and they were in Orlando. Bottom line is you better get some talent to your program if you want to win the whole thing.

  15. Broward you could probably take Madison every year in 1A and come out money ahead. Madison by their own admission was down last year and only lost to the best Trenton team they will ever have by 9 points. Madison graduated 25 seniors and have another 25 or so this year. So year in and year out they just have way more horses than most folks. To me 1A looks like this

    Top tier

    Madison Co

    2nd tier

    Trenton

    St Joe

    Dixie Co

    3rd tier

    Blountstown

    Ft Meade

    Pahokee

    Ft White
