I believe he is one of only a handful of central FL Rb's to run for over 2400 yards and 40 TD's in a season.

He is. I remember seeing him against East Ridge one night when East Ridge was still a very good program. Their defense literally could not tackle him.

The only high school offensive player I have seen that dominant in Central Florida was Jeremy Rudolph, who played QB at Apopka, but was really a running back in the mid 1990s. Full disclosure: I did not see Marquette Smith or Willie Green live in high school. If I had, I may have a different opinion.

High school only he's #1 in my opinion in Central Florida.

High school only, give me Kwemaine "Bubba" Brown, whom I know you are intimately familiar with!

Best running back I have seen live in the Central Florida area. Kid was unstoppable when healthy. Pity he sabotaged himself. He would have torn it up in college and beyond in my humble opinion!

  3. Went to Oviedo High and got the benefit of two games for the price of one. In the first game, which featured Varsity starters for all four quarters, Lyman High defeated Hagerty High by a final score of 35-28. The game was entertaining and, with the exception of the third quarter which was scoreless, was dominated by the offenses of both teams. Lyman's QB is a nice athlete to watch. He probably won't play QB in college. However, he was elusive and fast, and was a thorn in the side of the Hagerty defense. He took one keeper 75 yards making at least four defenders miss along the way for a score early in the 4th quarter.

In the second game, which was the one I made the trip to see mostly because I wanted to see how much progress Seminole's freshman QB had made, Seminole came out on top 14-0. Varsity played the 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters while the 3rd quarter was played by the JV teams. This enabled the game to be continuous without the usual half time break. The Varsity portion of this game was dominated by the defenses of both teams. McClain, Seminole's QB was hurried most of the night and was not able to make the pinpoint passes I was used to seeing from him. However, he did account for both touchdowns in the air. He has also filled out his body quite a bit which is good as he was real skinny last season.

My expectations going into the game, were for Seminole to be a live threat for the 8A title this season. This is based on the fact that last year the team was very young, being sophomore and freshman heavy. This year they will still be relatively young, but with experience. If they are going to fulfill my expectations, they will need to improve the play of their offensive line which had problems with Oveido's front four and linebacker corps all night. Regardless, my expectations of Seminole have not changed. They have a good coaching staff whom I expect to address any shortcomings early on.

Just saw JT Wilcox tweet that Dillard and Norland are tied at 14, end of the 3rd quarter.

Miami Central led Pace 13-0 when Wilcox left that game

I am sure Mighty Dillard will be pleased with this result!

Yeah but i can't just drive a hour there and back a day to go lol

I like the idea of being a few minutes from the beach lol

It's kind of dangerous in Florida. The land is too flat and there is no shelter from the storms. But if you must, choose west coast, it is safer!

Thanks.  Did not know her,  but from what I gather she may have actually been working outside when this happened.

I was going to say terrible way to die. But on reflection, for me, it may be the best way to go. It's pretty quick. The only problem is you get no advance notice and no time to prepare.

Rain usually won't cancel football.  It usually takes thundershowers...  Unfortunately, a woman was struck and killed by lightning yesterday in Parkland.  Mother Nature is always boss.

I guess when it rains it pours. Sorry to hear of the woman's death.

Starting a Thread for updates of this very intriguing match I believe the game starts at 7 tonight

If I were in SF, I would be at this game for sure! If the two teams are at the level they were at in December, I will take MNW in this one.

But I will satisfy myself with DP vs Winter Park up here.

The game was moved to Wednesday because a long time administrative dean passed away. She was well known by many players. Her funeral is on Thursday.

I am sorry to hear that. My condolences to the family and the entire DP community. As an old geezer myself, I have become increasingly sensitive to human mortality.

Funny thing is I have met the woman but did not know of her DP connection. My wife is an Assistant Principal at an Orange County school and introduced me to her earlier this year when I attended a function with her. It's a small world.

Great recap!! Hopefully you guys don't find those oline guys before the 24th, lol!!! Seriously though I'm looking forward to us playing, you really find out a lot about your team when you play the state's best. Best of luck this year!!

Best of luck to Orange City U, too. I know the effort you all put into that program.

    Orange City University?

The 8A team who keeps going 8-2 every year? Are we talking same school or is that not Orlando University?

Orlando University is a separate school near UCF. Despite being around for about 30 years, it has only put together about 4 or 5 good seasons during that time.

It was moving in the right direction in the late 1990s early 2000s and then they opened Timber Creek. Creek seems to have taken a good chunk of the talent they would have otherwise had.

Ain't the main difference between wing T and single wing is that the single Wing doesn't have a true qb?

It is one difference. Another difference is that no one takes snaps under center unless the center snaps to the blocking back which Apopka does occasionally. Note also that the lines are always unbalanced. But any of the two wing backs or the fullback could be normally be expected to get the ball from the center on each play.

Because they have run it for over a decade lol and @DarterBlue2 can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm guessing they are brought up running it so it comes naturally

Most (but not all) of the local youth teams in Apopka run some variant of the single wing. Darlington does it because he is first and foremost, a coach that wants to run the ball and control the clock. I think to him single wing works best because so few teams run it, that it has an element of surprise to opposing teams especially by the third round of the playoffs and beyond when you are playing out of area teams for the most part.

    Boone 31 Olympia 14

Lake Nona 23 Timber Creek 14

I was at the Boone/Olympia game. Don't know if you saw it, but this Braves team has the makings of being their best since they made the back to back to back run at States in 2006-2008. Olympia scored the first 14 then gave up 31 unanswered points, 28 of which were Varsity vs Varsity. And Boone fumbled away another chance inside the 10 on first and goal, so it could have been worse.

They have a diminutive QB, probably 5ft 10in at most on a very favorable day. I was going to say he was pretty quick for a white kid. But I take that back as that would be demeaning. The kid is quick/fast period. And I am from Jamaica so I think I know a thing or two about speed. He reminded me a bit of a tailback they had 14 or 15 years ago whose nick name was "White Lightening."  In the fourth quarter they brought in a Danish exchange student and he made the Olympia backups look stupid on more than one occasion.

Having seen Apopka and Boone on back to back nights, the Darters will have their hands full in this game this year. Not saying they don't win, but Apopka will not have anything resembling a cakewalk!

That single wing is tough, especially if you don't see it on a regular basis

I still remember when we played that 2 year series,  first year we couldn't do anything against the single wing but we did better second year

Wish they would play again, maybe we could drop Suwannee for the game LMAO

I would love to see Columbia added to the schedule. Think that many years it would be a good game. Distance is a little headache. But this year two Jax area teams are on the schedule. So, I don't see why it could not work out.
