If you would have rescheduled the Osceola game and beat them you would be #1.  Good luck beating Plant and Lakeland back to back.  If you do you deserve the home game round 4.

A strategic mind is a heck of an advantage when navigating the new system. There you have it. Of course, if Osceola had beaten them, it would not have solved Viera's predicament.

Lakeland schedule is a joke. Best win , if you call it that cause there really isn't one, a down Apopka team they beat by 7 at home. Nothing really sticks out in a very mediocre schedule. Beat a 4-6 Kathleen team 10-3? Ok what gives? We went to DC and beat Gonzaga 21-6. Running clock wins against Martin County,Heritage, Palm Bay. Beat Rockledge in first game of year 13-6. Did we get punished by new format for losing at Cocoa in 2OT?

Just studying bracket much easier path in top half. Second round game against Lake Nona instead of Plant, followed by obvious home field game in possible Viera vs. Lakeland match-up. Viera earned the home-field advantage by scheduling tough, seems they are another casualty to new system.

First, if Viera is to win states, they will get the job done regardless. Second, Apopka is not as down as you may think. Third, Martin County, Heritage and Palm Bay are not murder's row. In fact, Kathleen would probably give each all they could handle. Fourth, you earn bonus points when setting your schedule if you scheduled teams that made the playoffs in either of the preceding two years. You may want to look at the effect of scheduling points earned by each team.

A loss  is always going to hurt you as losing to a category 1 team only earns 30 base points while a win, regardless of category, will get you more, for example, a category 4 win still earns, I believe 35 points. So, yes, in that sense the loss to Cocoa hurt you a bit. Lakeland, being undefeated, has no such anchor.

The biggest problem I have with the new system is its complexity. Complex systems tend to lack transparency. I am now of the opinion that we could have made much easier fixes to the old system that would have improved things.

This is the most points they have allowed the whole season in all honesty I was never sold on Oscar anyways this game broke their 99 game winning streak

Is that a regular season winning streak? I know they have not won that many state titles back to back to back.

#3 I believe is Tennison and only a junior. Not looking forward to playing him next year. Like against Viera pretty sure they had Latham at QB facing Osceola. Switched  #6 Corbin to full-time QB later in season.Think we both got lucky this move didn't happen in  summer so Corbin and rest of team could of gained max. reps in execution. Think as they move further in playoffs they can be unstoppable in 5A.

Hardly. The path to a state championship in 5A is very difficult. Lots of quality teams Rockledge would have to get by. Not saying they don't have a shot. Just saying it is going to be very, very difficult.

I'm surprised manatee in the playoffs honestly

Yeah. They squeaked in. I think Osceola draws them first round. That should be an easy win for Osceola. Manatee was in a terrible district with Sarasota Riverview being the only good team in  it. They lost to Riverview but won their other district games and that was enough to get them the 8th seed over one of the other teams in Vero's district or Newsome which was just behind Manatee in system points.

They look like a Treasure Coast Centennial type team

After giving more thought to this game. Here's what I think will happen. I think the game will probably end up a lot like the Fort Pierce Central game. No the teams are not necessarily that similar. But I think Olympia gives VB a game for a half but gets worn down in the second half. My final score prediction is: VB 45 Olympia 17.

I think the Olympia draw, if correct, is a good way for VB to get the playoffs started. It is far better than drawing Ridge in the first round. Manatee would probably have been the best draw, with Gateway second best, but Olympia is a good draw.

  7. If the above is correct, these are four very difficult to pick, interesting match-ups. I could see all four going either way depending on which teams show up at their best.

Winter Park is probably the slight favorite to come out of the Region.

Is that the team that got blasted by STA last year I get them and Venice mixed up and will STA be hosting throughout or traveling could play a huge factor

Venice got blasted last year. Viera lost a state title game to St. Thomas a few years back.

Viera with dominating 35-6 win over Heritage. Played 2nd string whole second half running clock. Very explosive offense  with healthy defense ready for playoffs!

Viera has a realistic shot at extracting revenge for the beating St. Thomas gave them in the state game a few years back. It is not a lock, but I would say this is your year to have a real go at it.

Columbia fan might disagree being that they just lost to bolles lol

They weren't disgraced, though. St. Thomas is still the favorite. But some of the other 7A teams must be thinking they have a real shot. Based on how St. Thomas has played this season, they do.

    FINAL: Miramar 44, STA 27

Seems like if theres's any year for a team in 7A to knock the Raiders off, it would be this year. Not just saying this bc they lost, but they haven't been their normal dominant selves. Offense isn't scaring a lot of upper echelon teams.

Statement win by Miramar going into the playoffs. I agree with your assessment of St. Thomas. They are vulnerable this year. It will not be easy, but it is not an exercise in futility and a Viera or Venice or Lakeland or even a team from the North end such as Lee or Columbia may be able to upset them.

Rockledge defeats Cocoa, 21-17 in double OT.

I am not shocked by this. Rockledge is vastly underrated. Cocoa is good, but probably not deserving of a top 25 ranking nationally. They are, though, probably top 5 in Florida. And, unless there is a shocking result down the line, they easily secure a back to back state title as 4A is very weak.

  13. After struggling to decide what game to watch, I decided as a long time Apopka fan that I needed to see the season through to the end.

Apopka won by a comfortable margin on the scoreboard. But the win was ugly. To add to my general feelings of gloom, one of the key members of the secondary was injured on Oakridge's second drive and did not return. I have no idea what the extent of his injury is.

Despite Apopka's margin of victory, Oakridge actually had good offensive numbers. I am sure they had many more yards of total offense than Wekiva did last week. However, they constantly shot themselves in the foot, fumbling the ball away three or four times including once inside the Apopka 1 and throwing an interception. Apopka also threw an interception and fumbled the ball away.

Overall it was an ugly game. In order to avoid being one and done for the second consecutive year, the Apopka team members will have to lift their game by a bit. The talent is certainly there to do it. I am not sure the will is. I guess we will see next week.

Elsewhere in the Orlando area: Osceola finished the season undefeated with a 25-8 win over Lake Brantley; Winter Park did likewise beating Lake Mary 35 to 21; Wekiva struggled to beat Lake Nona in a slug-fest before winning 46-34; Seminole beat Bishop Moore 34-25; and, Boone probably locked up a playoff spot beating Edgewater 35-27.

Pinkos has Boone favored by 4.  I picked Boone by 3.  If Boone loses they might miss the playoffs because of the forfeits by Timber Creek

That would really be bad for Boone. They beat TC on the field. And now with TC falling a category due to the forfeits they could be out of the playoffs? Sad.
