  1. In the first round, the 5th seed would host the 4th.
  2. On any given night ... I doubt they would win. As an Apopka fan I should like the direction Region 1 is going in. We are currently seeded 4 in Region 1. If we beat Wekiva on Friday, there's a strong chance we jump over Winter Park and claim the # 3 spot, as the two teams are rated almost the same and Wekiva, I believe, is more highly rated then Lake Brantley by a bit. If this happens, we likely get a first round rematch with Evans at home or a game against Hagerty at home. And if Lake Mary beats Mainland they retain the # 1 seed but would likely have to travel to Boone. That would leave Seminole playing either Hagerty or Evans (more likely Hagerty) and Mandarin traveling to Winter Park, where they will have an excellent chance of pulling off the win. The most likely scenario from the above, is that Lake Mary faces the winner of Mandarin/Winter Park while Apopka faces Seminole at Seminole. Though Seminole beat us comfortably in the regular season, I much prefer playing them than Lake Mary in round 2. And, if Mandarin can upset Lake Mary in their rematch, and Apopka finds a way to edge out the Noles, we would get a dream regional final at our place against Mandarin. While the above still leaves a steep hill to climb, it looks less daunting than it did a week ago.
  3. There is a slight chance that Durant will get to stay home. If DP can find a way to beat Jones and Olympia finds a way to lose to South Lake, DP would leap over Olympia and would travel to Durant. Very unlikely, but in week 11 strange things happen from time to time.
  4. Rankings as of today: https://fhsaa.com/rankings.aspx?path=football Continues to improve but still has a lot of weird stuff. I don't like these rankings at all!
  5. Don't worry, it's coming ...
  6. Given St. Thomas's ambitions, it would be stacked in any metro area. Its alumni and the school's endowment would see that they had the talent to compete on a national level, because like Miami Central, their ambitions are national, not just statewide. But like I have stated, the only way to restore sanity in Florida High School Football, is to have kids who transfer from the 10th grade on sit out a year or play JV for a year before they are eligible for Varsity football. That would slow the number of transfers, public or private, to a trickle. Private schools that wanted to load up in this scenario would have to provide 4 years of education to their recruits or bear the costs of having them sit out a year.
  7. Basically, any football team, private or public, that wants to have a high national ranking or a shot at a "mythical" National Championship will have a high incentive to recruit. Without doing so, they have no chance as there are several "National Caliber" teams that are stacked. Most of these are private. So, I am pretty sure recruiting will not stop at the Miami Centrals of the world. In the case of some other publics, such as Edgewater in Orlando, that may wish to have a shot at say, the 3M crown, but that does not necessarily have National Championship aspirations, they will continue to recruit in order to give them a shot at a state championship as St. Thomas Aquinas stands in the way, and they recruit heavily. Bottom line is that it cuts both ways. But I don't think that the solution to separate the publics from the privates will solve the problem. From my perspective, what would is requiring football transfers to sit out a year before being eligible to play Varsity football. Give them the option to play JV for the first year but not varsity and the flood of transfers would be reduced to a trickle. Of course, some very narrowly crafted exceptions could be could be made (a divorce or death in the family that changes the kid's guardian, a job promotion by the major breadwinner in the family requiring a move to a different location, etc.).
  8. He's an empty suit. I sure would not want him to be part of the crew officiating any game Apopka played. He may know the rules well. However, I seriously think he would lack fairness and objectivity.
  9. You are a vacuous person who makes statements and allegations but can provide no proof of them. You can't even provide a decent secondary source. The truth is, if Apopka recruited heavily, and modified its offense to accommodate potential recruits, it would dominate the greater Orlando area in similar fashion to how the Miami Central's and St. Thomas's dominate South Florida. But of course, if we did that, it would bring a multitude of unintended consequences with it. These would probably negate any benefit to the performance of the football program.
  10. The Apopka Blue Darter has never buttered its bread on transfers. If you believe otherwise, please provide evidence. We are fortunate that the school has a lot of talent within its boundaries. The trick has always been to keep the talent at home. For the most part we have, due to the program having stable coaching and a winning tradition.
  11. The Big Bend and for that matter many small town in obscure places used to do just fine against the powers of Miami Dade and the Fort Lauderdale area. What has turned things on their heads is the modern day reality of the "super teams", whether Private or Public. Once it became open season for kids to transfer to wherever they wished to go solely for athletics or anything else, it guaranteed that the larger metro areas were going to have a significant advantage as it was always going to be a whole lot easier for a Miami Central or for that matter an Orlando Edgewater to load up with transfers from a 15 mile radius than it would be for a Lake City Columbia or even a Deland to do the same. If sanity were restored as to who would be immediately eligible to play for a given school, then parity within the state of Florida.
  12. You are an autocrat both in word and deed. I thank God you are not in a position of power and authority outside the high school gridiron.
  13. Perhaps I didn't put my words correctly. I have no doubt that Dillard has the potential to be an elite team in Florida. But at this moment it is not. The program has had a lot of change over the past two years. And, a lot of turnover of both players and staff since last year. It would have been easy for this to have been a rebuilding year with no playoff birth, but as of now you are almost certain to play at least one game in the post season. For @nolebull813 to suggest that Dillard should be playing 8 man ball is ridiculous and I believe he's just trolling you. Absent the top 16 to 20 or so teams in the state, Dillard would have a good shot at a deep playoff run in any of the classifications in the state as things stand now. Would you win out? I don't know, but you would certainly be in the conversation.
  14. Come on man. Dillard is not ready for the STAs of the world. But they can beat middle of the road to decent teams. Create a super class and Dillard would be competitive against the rest.
  15. I don't see your comments in this thread as making excuses for Lakeland. An unfortunate event occurred which may impact them in a negative way. I think the entire staff needs to look at this and probably make changes to the way in which they communicate with the athletes. What's past is past, but Lakeland certainly cannot afford to make this a regular occurrence and the kids that wear the Orange, Black and White need to have that drilled into their heads.
  16. Except in the rare situation where you had: Northwestern, Central, Norland and a resurgent Carol City all in the same district. To me, districts like that would be ok with just four teams, especially if only two or no more than three made the playoffs. The same would apply if Edgewater, Dr. Phillips, Apopka, Seminole, and the current Lake Mary were all in one district of five teams.
  17. I was not sure whether to give you a heart or the smiley face, LOL. Yes, you were a year younger than my older child back when you started posting on the Florida Varsity Central board.
  18. @Ray Icaza, @Perspective is spot on as things stand today. It's actually a very good draw for you as an 8th seed. Not a guaranteed win, but I don't think you will be playing the real # 1 team in the region.
  19. @Trelle, 20 years or so ago, back when you represented VB, I bet well over 90% of the team was "home grown" in the sense that they spent all four years at VB. Today, while VB is still a community school, that's not the case in athletics anymore.
  20. In the old days, you would have a tiebreaker on Monday with each of the teams playing a half of football against each other as necessary. The host would be the team with the best overall won/loss record. Or if that's tied, a coin could be flipped to determine the host school.
  21. From last night's play both teams have a lot of clean up to do if either is to get far in the playoffs.
  22. Yes. That's the most likely outcome as I type this. If Vero lost to Columbia you may get Palm Bay Heritage or Treasure Coast in the first round, though. Heritage would be a likely win for VB. But TC, well we saw what happened last night.
  23. Before the game tonight, DeLand was the number 4 seed in Region 3 and Vero Beach was the number 5 seed. Given VB lost to TC which is a higher seeded team than it, VB may retain the number 5 spot, especially if it wins next week. As DeLand is a district champion, that means VB's first game would be on the road at Spec Martin stadium. If VB loses to Lake City Columbia which is possible, I believe it still makes the playoffs but would likely be 6 or 7th seed. The likely opponent would be either Palm Bay Heritage (which would be a good draw), or a rematch with Treasure Coast at their place again.
  24. I believe most of their staff are still intact. But I am not close to the program so I don't know. But even if that's true, being a very good coordinator or assistant does not always translate into being in charge. The tone always begins at the top and what happened should not have occurred.
  25. Under their long time, legendary HBC, this probably would not have happened. Voids are sometimes hard to fill even when the Xs and Os and the talent is still there.
