Serious question:  in theory, middle school kids become high school kids.   So, I can understand a disproportionate number of middle school students at times, but as those kids age up, the script should flip and you should have a disproportionate number of high school students.  What's happening to those kids between middle school and high school?

A lot of families move away. We have a high migrant population, that travels for work (sugar cane, corn, rice, etc). It’s always been like that. 7/8th grade classes have about 150+ kids, but by the senior year there’s 70 kids graduating.

Jobs and housing are issues also. A lot of people work in West Palm, Riviera and that’s a 45 minute to hour drive. So it’s convenient to move closer to your job.

Didn't Chris Dunkley 5 Star WR transfer to Pahokee from Royal Palm Beach?

He’s originally from Pahokee and came back to play his SR year. A lot of kids who leave want to come back and play there. Adarious and Akeem Dent (though he finished at Palm Beach Central). Tamarcus Porter (Pitt) families are from Pahokee that moved away and those kids came back to play their SR seasons. All those kids had ties to the community before coming back. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles still live here.

I get that not a lot of people live out there , but the fact is your still closer than all the other rural schools to a bigger population of people that maybe y’all get another Boldin and some stud on the other side of the county might want to come play with him and that’s what these small rural counties would never have a chance to get. But none of this matters because I think y’all are going to the Metro 1A anyways

When we had Boldin, no one came. When we dominated 2B with Janoris Jenkins (UF), Micanor Regis (UM), Martavious Odoms (Michigan), Vincent Smith (Michigan), Antone Smith (FSU), Alphonso Smith (Wake Forest) no one came to play for Pahokee. Pahokee and Belle Glade do not have favorable perceptions in Palm Beach County (that’s an entirely different conversation), plus it’s about 30 miles from the closest city.

Pahokee and GC only get media coverage when we win state. Everything else is a small blip.

No then don’t be scared if the metro schools might do the same thing we shouldn’t need this split for surburban , seriously you think Hamilton County Florida 14,500 ever has a chance against Pahokee in Palm Beach

Pahokee has a population of about 7,000 and a high school student body around 200

What were the numbers when you had Anquan Boldin ? Came to the State title game vs Bolles and that was a great team you had

About the same. Pahokee is a REALLY small school. There have never been over 400 high schoolers on the campus. The middle school kids are always the majority of the student population

  6. A lot of families have left the area for jobs (state prison and hospital shut down). Seminole Ridge, Royal Palm, Wellington, and Palm Beach Central have benefited from that. 2 kids went to IMG (Markevious Brown/Ole Miss and Knijeah Harris who may be one of the top OGs next year).

I have a question how did y’all drop from either 3 or 4 A down to 1 A did a lot of kids leave the school.

Pahokee is the smallest public school in Palm Beach County and probably in Broward and Dade countries. Comparable schools would be Cardinal Newman (Private), Kings Academy (private), Glades Day (private/refused to play), so we’ve always competed in 3A/2B. I guess travel/scheduling (money) made it easy. Pahokee has always competed with Pt. St. Joe, Ft. Meade, Frostproof, and Wildwoods.

Don’t think Pahokee high has had a graduating class over 70 kids the past 30 years.

But if Pahokee gets back great they wil be able to cherry pick from a big county that other schools in rural counties don’t have that luxury

Pahokee and Glades Central are to far out West to attract transfers. We’ve always won with home grown kids. Both schools loose more kids to Glades Day (Belle Glade), then they attract. Wish we could get some OL to come in.

How do you have a 7th and 8th graders on a JV squad?  I guess the school has middle school and HS combined?  They dont have youth ball in there area either?

Most 1A schools are Middle/High schools (6-12). Our youth teams go up to about 6th grade (12 years old) and kids are allowed to play JV (football) in 7th grade. Frostproof, Ft. Meade, Wildwood, Hawthorne are all 6-12 (Middle/Senior) high schools. Pahokee is the only 1A public, south of Polk County.

Theres 1 major exception to the 6-12 school in North Florida. They used to be in the same classification as Glades Central (4A) but some way, they’ve lost about 600+ kids.

Do 1A teams typically have enough kids to field JV teams or are most varsity only?

Pahokee’s always had a JV team, but the roster is usually 7th/8th/9th graders. They’re usually 1/2 loss team. This years team went 6-2, only losses to Palm Beach Central.

Unfortunately, from recent articles expressing HS coaches views the transfer portal in college is making those scholarship opportunities more difficult to secure.   Looks like unless that is addressed in some fashion to put some restraints on football players switching allegiance so easily, securing these scholarships for HS kids will get more difficult.   As is the case when change takes place to make things better, the unintended consequences jump up to bite you.

The portal is hurting the fringe of star/mid-major kids. Bama A&M only took 10 high school kids. FSU took like 32 high school kids the last 2 cycles combined

Miller (6’2 160) is a long, technically sound CB prospect w/ P5 potential. He shined as a SOPH (2 INT, 9 PBU, 2 FF) & now combines w/ 4 Star Antione Jackson & Nickel Zyon Pressley to create a special ‘24 trio.

iF We Can Get a Offensive master mind at OC and get solid contributions from our OL we have the POTIENTAL to be really special.

I see Dillard is loading up, but that’s the game now. Very, few schools compete with home-grown talent.

PK and GC are so isolated, that we can’t really play that game. Welcome to AAU football

  13. I see READING is NOT fundamental…COMPREHENSION is….this is from HS Football Live’s twitter…NOT MY FEELINGS/VIEWS! I just shared the information from the tweet.

Hawthorne has a 1A enrollment, but when you get 10+ transfers (compare the last 2 years rosters) it is what it is. Madison also has 1A enrollment, but they also can pull from their charter school (who’s #s don’t count for them).

  14. From HS Football Live (Twitter)

1A- won by a school with more enrollment than most 4A schools

2A- won by a private school

    3A-won by a private school

4A- won by a private school

    5A- won by Miami Central

6A- won by a private school

7A- won by a private school

    8A- won by Venice

….Private schools won 5 of the 8 championships. THESE ARE NOT MY NUMBERS, just shared from their twitter.

Cardinal Newman 2025 QB Davi Belfort @DaviBelfort transfers to Dillard Belfort (6’ 185) is nationally ranked & a P5 QB prospect. His first HS campaign finished with 2016 YD & 28 TD & consistently showcasing he was one of the QB in Palm Beach. He holds 6 early offers.

Let’s Go panthers!! Let’s put public schools back on the map in broward county!!

Guess, it’s OK when Dillard gets a transfer…just kidding. His dad is Vitor Belfort (former UFC/MMA fighter) I thought he would’ve ended up back at St. Thomas. They had an article on him in the Palm Beach Post, seems like he had a good season. Newman had a good running back (underclass man) I wonder if he transfers next. Glad Dillard has bounced back.
