Playing multiple games is torture for high school football teams. When hurricanes cause a team to play on a Thursday/Friday game and then turn around and play another on Monday or Tuesday and then Friday make proper game planning impossible and recovery non-existent.

Bingo Dr. D. You are soooo right. FHSAA will not care unless mass exodus. We can come up with a million reform ideas but enrollment based is easiest for the FHSAA and not going anywhere.

Maybe you loved being able to thrown the best teams out of your division and let the metro teams beat the crap out of each other in that horrible system where the metro counties did not even go by population but some bs density rule. Its basically the same system we had for decades. Enrollment based classification. hello. Go to promotion and demotion and hardly anybody would drop out. Let the cream of the crop ruse to top 3 divisions and rest fight it out for regional non-state titles below. The reason teams are dropping like flies is that they cant compete with the transfer recruiting cheating teams. Why would bad Orlando 7A teams want to compete with an all star team Edgewater? You will never get real change going by population alone and we all know it. So crybabies. What system do you want h8r?

The teams that are dropping out should drop out and they can always come back if they have a Edgewater type off Renaissance. Unfortunately the FHSAA ignoring recruiting and the open enrollment process is creating 2 classes in high school football. The extreme haves and the have nots. Maybe something will be done like promotion down the road but until a ton of teams leave the FHSAA, thing will remain status quo.

I am saying that the gainesville area coaches this guy spoke to hate new idea because they liked being separate and in easy division. Coca never backs down from tough competition as everyone has seen by your schedule and success in entire state.

Of course it was done by a suburb area newspaper. Teams loved avoiding south Florida talent.

Tell me when coaches are happy. they liked suburb /metro because it was easier to make playoffs and extra state champs. Keep same system but lower number of divisions to 6 .

I like this model much better than last metro suburban bs. You get the same complaints about easy districts and tough ones but the elite teams really dont care. They are stockpiled with talent so boo hoo. We should have 2 fewer divisions but it still better than last 2 years of major leagues and minor ones.

If open idea is dead, switch back to 6 divisions.

Just checkout a couple years ago when a ton of Lake Gibson's starters transferred out to another program after being runner ups at state. They were already at a super successful program and bam recruited to another and gone.

Your idea makes wayyyyyyyy too much sense for FHSAA board. They will do nothing and just go back to old model and ignore the recruiting issue as always. Wild west boys, if you want to be great in Florida football, you have to be college recruiters. Go cheat like Winter Park did a few years ago ago and pay some rent and give some $100 handshakes coaches. They got to use the players for the playoffs and only had them suspended for 5 regular season games. That was an obvious cheating rewarded. Sure. Just take a picture of all the state champions in the metro division and a few of the suburban rosters. and see how many players came from other schools or were supposed to go to other schools. They all recruit. Illegal thus a form of cheating. In order to be an elite team in Florida, you must get elite talent and the only way is to break the rule and recruit. Or you can bury your head in the sand like an ostrich and say that does not in our state.

The promotion/demotion idea was a way to handle recruiting and open enrollment cheating since the state cant do anything about it and did not want to have a private/public split. The open division handle some of it but it would be better at 16 teams or even 32.

I think the open division is a good idea. I would expand it to 16 though. Let the cheater recruiters beat each other up instead crushing the non-cheaters. Plus, it will make for some awesome playoffs for the one true state champion of Florida in all sports.

I said from day 1 that the suburb division (which is crap anyway because the leaders cherry picked which counties they wanted to be in Metro and suburb with some bs population density ) was the minor league even though they have some major league programs like Lakeland and Venice. They sold us a bill of goods about parity for suburb schools but only helped a few awesome semi finalist become champs. Rest of metro schools got screwed.

For all you clowns who said metro suburb plan would create parity, looks like same group of suburb teams who were awesome before and made semi finals regularly are the only ones who benefitted from the plan. But, you crushed many metro schools with a huge enrollment number which led to more blowouts in district play. Nice. Put all cheaters in same couple of divisions with promotion and demotion is only real solution to the recruiting problem. Here are the state match ups. Mandarin (Jacksonville) vs. Columbus (Miami) - Gee never saw Columbus in finals huh and mandarin won a couple of years ago. Homestead vs. St. Thomas Aquinas - Rematch of last years state game Class 2MBerkeley Prep (Tampa) vs. Miami Norland- Norland new but had many transfers to get good. 1MClearwater Central Catholic vs.Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) Florida- Chaminade should be in 4m.. Class 1RMadison County (Madison) vs. HawthorneDec. Madison should be in 3 M 4SLakeland vs. VeniceDec - surprise...never saw these two in state game before. Lakeland State House Rep started this whole crap. . 3SMainland (Daytona Beach) vs. St. Augustine- these teams were state semi-finalsts regularly before break up and both won state before. Class 2SBradford (Starke) vs. Cocoa - Cocoa is such a lock to win state here that even Fanduel would not post odds on it. 1STrinity Catholic (Ocala) vs. Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota) - Never saw Trinity before.

I don't like to blame refs or coaches for losses but this ending is hard not to put on the head coach . geez. a squib kick to a team that does not have an elite kicker seem obvious. Tough way to get knocked out of the playoffs. Mainland would have beaten them anyway probably but losing this way in not fun.

I thought this was the year Lake Mary went to the state championship game. I have no idea how they got beat so bad. Anyone at the game have some more details. How did they not score more point?

Administration has to be the rock of any solid football program and it seems that that school has been a disaster in football over the years and you actully made it matter and they quit on the program. sad for players.

Didn't winter park get busted for a horrible recruiting scandal when they were paying for apartments and such and the only punishment was the kids had to sit out only 5 games and were back for playoffs. No penalty for head coach or school so that basically said go ahead and cheat and its a ok with the fhsaa. So spare me your punishing the great teams with putting all the cheaters in a same 2 divisions and they would have won their division state title. Watching Chaminade destroy normal 1 s or 2 a schools is a joke.

The suburb idea only helped elite suburb teams who already elite made finals or semi-finals and could not win state. Then the FHSAA punished many metro schools by condensing 8 divisions into 4 and making enrollment gaps huge. Reason for more blowouts in districts and playoffs. Demote and promote top 15% and cheaters can fight for top 2 divisions called state title and rest regionals. Only 10% of schools have any shot at a state title anyway so let them compete for regionals lower titles and let cheaters and recruiters and open enrollment giants crush each other.

Lake Mary dominated most of the game and it took a crazy last 6 minutes for the noles to win. Nice job and guts but doubt it happens again. Usually, the team that dominates most of a game wins. I have no dog in the fight, but anyone who can beat APK like that must be pretty darn good and put 70 up on Dr. Phillips.

Lake Mary will still win the region and maybe state. Nice win and guts by The Noles. That type of grit will help them but dont think they win a possible rematch.

open enrollment and transfers for academic reasons is not the problem here. Its recruiting and transfers for athletic reasons. Since our state association has zero power to rule them ineligible and even if they did, the state and courts would overturn it, we need to promote and demote. Period
