Ever since the 2024 season came to a close for a lot of teams, numerous head coaches have resigned or have been dismissed and at FloridaHSFootball.com, our goal is track them as best to our abilities with our annual Coaches Moving Van. On the 2025 Coaches Moving Van you can see which schools have changed coaches going into the 2025 season along with notes on each team that has had a head coaching change so far.

Benjamin (Palm Beach Gardens) | Eric Kresser | Jason Belser | Kresser stepped down after seven seasons and a 45-28 record, opening the door for a national search for a new head coach that drew over 200 applications. Belser is a former NFL Player who played for the Colts and Chiefs. |
Booker T. Washington (Miami) | Tim “Ice” Harris Sr. | Dorrean James | After three different stints that included state titles in 2007, 2012, and 2013, Harris retired from Miami-Dade Schools and has since been named the new head coach at Mater Academy. James, who spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Miami High. |
Boynton Beach | Danny Mendoza | Mendoza resigned in February after not seeing eye to eye with vision with the school for the direction of the program. Mendoza went 5-5 in his lone season with the Tigers. | |
Cambridge Christian (Tampa) | Brian Palone | Andre Walker | Palone stepped down after two seasons as head coach, going 6-16 during that time. Walker takes over after coming over from Foundation Academy in Winter Garden. |
Chiefland | Adam Gore | Cliff Harrell | In his third stint as the head coach, Gore lasted one year before resigning, going 9-2, and is 36-10 overall in four seasons (2017, 2018, 2021, 2024). Harrell, who has previously been on staff and returned this past year, was promoted to head coach. Harrell has previous coaching experience at Santa Fe (Alachua) in 2016-17 where he was 5-15 in those two years. |
Clay (Green Cove Springs) | Kyle Kennard | Jeff Gierke | Kennard resigned after five seasons at the Clay County school, going 26-25 and one playoff berth. Sattinger, a Countryside alum, will take over as head coach. He has also served as an assistant coach at other programs in Pinellas County, including Clearwater and Boca Ciega. |
Crystal River | Bill Vonada | Chris Cook | Vonda led the Pirates for one season, going 6-5 and leading them to a district championship. Cook, the former head coach at Hamilton County and Weeki Wachee is taking over the Pirates in 2025. |
Cypress Creek (Orlando) | Ryan Mills | Mills, who was the Bears’ coach for one year going 0-10, is heading back to Polk County to take over at Davenport. Cypress Creek has not named a new head coach as of yet. | |

Dunedin | Mitch Disney | Greg Climan | Disney was let go after eight seasons as head coach compiling 16-62 record during that stretch with the best year coming in 2019 at 5-5. Former Anclote head coach Greg Climan, a Dunedin alum, has been tapped to take over. |
Dunnellon | Tommy Sutton | JB Bynum | After three seasons, Sutton stepped down after taking over the Tigers in 2022. Sutton, who took his alma mater to the playoffs all three seasons, amassed a 21-16 record in that span. Another alum in Bynum is stepping in as head coach. Bynum has previous coaching stops, including those at Trinity Catholic and Wildwood. Bynum is also the first black head coach in Dunnellon’s history. |
East Bay (Gibsonton) | Mike Gottman | DeAndra’ Simmons | Gottman retired after four seasons and compiled a 33-12 record with playoff appearances in all four years. Gottman finished with a career record 130-95 between both East Bay and Durant. Simmons was announced as the school’s next head coach in February by the school. |
East Lee County (Lehigh Acres) | Herbans Paul | Steve Howard | The former Florida State defensive back resigned after three seasons to take the same position at Gibbs in St. Petersburg. He went 10-19 with back-to-back 5-5 seasons during his time with the Jaguars. Howard comes to East Lee County after two seasons at Ida Baker. |
Edgewater (Orlando) | Cameron Duke | Patrick Browning | After eight seasons, Duke left the state for a head coaching position at Marietta High in Georgia. Duke went 85-14 at Edgewater, including two state runner-up finishes in 2019 and 2020. The Eagles reached out-of-state in hiring Browning, an assistant coach at Prairie View A&M, this past season. Browning comes with high school head coaching experience in Alabama. |
Fivay (Hudson) | Tyrone Hendrix | Tony Egan | Hendrix stepped down after three seasons for a college coaching position, going 16-14 including a best 7-3 in 2024. Egan, former head coach at Wesley Chapel has been named the next head coach of the Falcons. |
Flagler Palm Coast | Daniel Fish | Patrick Turner | Fish was dismissed after two seasons despite a 9-2 record in 2024 due to differences between the school administration and Fish. Fish finished with a 12-9 overall record as the Bulldogs’ head coach. In March, Flagler Palm Coast tapped Palatka head coach Patrick Turner to be the next head coach. |
Forest (Ocala) | Eoghan Cullen | John Brantley III | Cullen was let go after three seasons as head coach, going 12-18 with no playoff appearances. The Wildcats have turned Brantley, former Trinity Catholic and Belleview head coach and Forest alum who was a state championship-winning quarterback for the school in the 1970s. |
Fort Walton Beach | Bobby Clayton | Josh Pulliam | Clayton resigned after two seasons to return to the Pensacola area, taking the Pensacola Catholic position. Clayton went 8-12 during his two years, with a 5-5 best in 2023. Pulliam is a first-time head coach who has coached at various programs around the state. |
Foundation Academy (Winter Garden) | Andre Walker | Daniel “D.J.” White | Walker was let go after 10 years at the school, including the last four as head coach going 25-15 during that stretch. The Lions have turned to White, an Apopka alum and former UAB athlete to lead the team returning to Florida after serving as an assistant at Delaware State. |
Freedom (Orlando) | Joe Saragusa | Brandon Pennington | Saragusa stepped down after four seasons, going 14-27 with no playoff appearances, with his first season in 2021 being his best at 6-5 with a post-season bowl game. Pennington was tapped early in the offseason as the next head coach for the Patriots. |
Gateway Charter (Fort Myers) | Ben Daley | Michael Patterson | Daley stepped aside after seven seasons going 20-44 overall at the SSAA program and remains the school’s athletic director. The Griffins have turned to Patterson, who has various coaching stops in Florida and in Georgia. |
Gibbs (St. Petersburg) | Emmerson Clarke | Herbans Paul | Clarke stepped down after two seasons, going 2-17 in that time. Paul comes from East Lee County after three seasons there, hoping to turn the Gladiators around. |
Golden Gate (Naples) | Nick Citro | Nick Bigica | Citro resigned after one season, going 1-8. Bigica returns after year away where he was 24-26 in his first stint between 2019 and 2023. |
Hamilton County (Jasper) | Chris Cook | Fabian Reid | After two seasons as the head coach for the Trojans, Cook is on the move back to the North Suncoast as he leaves for the Crystal River job. Cook went 5-14 over two years as the head coach. Hamilton County announced in late February the hiring of alumnus Reid, a 2017 graduate of the rural North Central Florida school. Reid was the defensive coordinator for the Trojans in 2024. |
Ida Baker (Cape Coral) | Steve Howard | Cullen O’Brien | Howard left after two seasons and went 0-20 to take the same position at East Lee County. O’Brien who launched the program at Gateway (Fort Myers), takes over as head coach. |
IMG Academy National (Bradenton) | Billy Miller | Miller resigned after three seasons to take a position on Bill Belichick’s staff at North Carolina. In his time with the Ascenders, Miller went 25-3. Ascenders are looking for the next head coach to lead the nationally ranked powerhouse in Bradenton. | |
Indian Rocks Christian | Mark Buchanan | Leonard Weaver | After 16 seasons as head coach in two different stints, Buchanan is out as head coach. As the Golden Eagles’ head coach, Buchanan was 109-67, highlighted by a trip to the state championship game in 2014. Weaver, a former head coach at Park Vista and Coral Springs, will take over as head coach. |
Inlet Grove (Riviera Beach) | Rashad Jackson | Jackson announced in early April that he was stepping down after three seasons going 14-15 overall to pursue a college coaching opportunity. The school has not formally posted a search yet for head coach. | |
Island Coast (Cape Coral) | Tyran Jones | Steve O’Neal | Jones stepped down after two seasons, going 8-12, citing to the Fort Myers News-Press that “he had accomplished all he could with the program.” The Gators have since hired O’Neal as the next head coach. |
Kathleen (Lakeland) | Saul Speights | Kenny Kelly | Speights resigned after three seasons as the Red Devils head man, going 3-27. The Red Devils are turning to former Miami (Fla.) athlete Kelly to try to turn the program around. |
Lake Brantley (Altamonte Springs) | Skip Clayton | Garrett Kruczek | Clayton, the son of now-deceased legendary head coach George Clayton was dismissed as head coach after three seasons, going 9-22. The Patriots are now turning to Kruczek, a two-time SSAA championship-winning coach at The Master’s Academy in Oviedo to lead the Patriots back to winning ways. |
Lake Gibson (Lakeland) | Rich Pringle | Jeff George Jr. | Pringle was dismissed after going 13-19 in three seasons, including a 4-6 record in 2024 and missing the playoffs. The Braves have turned to George, who launched the program at Davenport and has been the head coach there for the past four seasons. |
Lake Minneola | Mike McGlynn | Abre’ Leggins | McGlynn’s tenure with the Hawks was brief, lasting only one season, going 3-7. Leggins, an offensive coach for the Hawks, has been promoted to head coach. |
Leesburg | Frank Scott | Kenard Lang | Scott stepped down after one season, going 6- 5 with a playoff berth in the Class 4A regional quarterfinals. Lang, who has had head coaching stops at Jones, Wekiva, and Evans, was named the head coach in January. |
Legacy (Port St. Lucie) | New School | Legacy will be the newest high school in the state to take the field this fall, but the new school has yet to name their first head football coach. | |
Legacy Charter (Ocoee) | Zach Fox | Fox stepped down in late March after three seasons, going 13-16 in that stretch, with his best year coming in 2022 when the Eagles went 6-4. No new head coach has been named yet. | |
Leon (Tallahassee) | William Mosley II | Ricky Bell | Mosley went 1-9 in his lone season as the Lions’ head coach. The school is now turning to 70-year-old veteran football coach and former Leon County athletic director in Bell, who last was a head coach at Rickards in 1998, to take over the historical program. |
Leto (Tampa) | John Hurst | Dane Seckar | Hurst stepped down after one season to pursue other opportunities, going 1-9. Seckar, who has been a coach in Hillsborough County for nearly a decade, was named the Falcons’ next head coach in early February. |
Liberty (Kissimmee) | Demetrius Hart | After two seasons, Hart is out as head coach for the Chargers. A new head coach has not been named as of yet. | |
Lincoln (Tallahassee) | Jimmie Tyson | Matt Jackson | Tyson stepped down after four seasons of going 33-15, during which the Trojans won two district titles and made the playoffs in all four seasons. Jackson, who has been on staff, was named the next head coach and has a legacy himself after starring at Suwannee and playing college football at the University of Florida. |
Mariner (Cape Coral) | Brian Staats | Tyran Jones | Staats is gone after one year, with the Tritons going 2-8. Now Jones, who comes over after two years at Island Coast, will seek to improve Mariner’s fortunes. |
McArthur (Hollywood) | Alex Barron | Robert Ortega | Barron is out after one season with the Mustangs going 2-8. Ortega, a 2001 alum of McArthur, was named the next head coach back in January in hopes of turning the Mustangs around. |
McLaughlin (Lake Wales) | New Program | Ray Grant | Grant was named to lead McLaughlin in launching one of the Lakes Wales-based school’s newest athletic offerings for 2025. |
Melbourne | David Kintigh | Jeff Pannucci | Kintigh stepped down as head coach in January after going 27-20 in four years, including three playoff berths. Pannucci, who was on staff as a defensive coordinator, was promoted to head coach in February. |
Miami | Dorrean James | James stepped down after two seasons, going 6-14, to take over as the new head coach at Booker T. Washington. No replacement for James has been named for the Stingarees program. | |
Miami Central | Jube Joseph | Derrick Gibson | Joseph was let go in February after three seasons going 22-14 overall – with one state title in 2022 – but was 31-5 on the field after the 2024 season was marred with forfeits that forced the Rockets to miss the playoffs. Gibson, a standout athlete at Miami Killian and who played at FSU before becoming a first-round NFL Draft pick by the Raiders, was named the next head coach. Gibson comes with previous high school head coaching experience, having gone 26-6 at Killian from 2019-2021. |
Miami Jackson | Max Edwards | Edwards is out after one year with the Generals after being removed due to disturbing video allegations going 4-7 including a playoff berth falling in the regional quarterfinals. No replacement has been named as of yet. | |
Milton | Kelly Gillis | Ronnie Douglas | Gillis stepped down after three seasons as head coach, going 6-24 over that stretch. Douglas, noted for turning around struggling teams in the Pensacola area, including his alma mater Tate and Pine Forest – where he took them to the Class 5A state championship game in 2021 – was named the next head coach. |
Moore Haven | Emmanuel Hendrix | Deric Allen | Hendrix is out after one season after replacing Jackie Garrett before the 2024 season commenced, going 5-5, including a playoff berth as the No. 16 seed in Class Rural. Allen, who has been an assistant coach at Lake Placid, was named the next head coach for the Terriers. |
Mulberry | Brad Metheny | Davis Stephens Jr. | Metheny, who led the Panthers to a 9-1 season and their first home playoff game in 40 years, was removed in November due to a district investigation. Metheny went 16-5 in two seasons, excluding the playoff game. Since then, the Panthers have hired Stephens, who was previously the defensive coordinator at Winter Haven. |
Nature Coast (Brooksville) | Rob Kazmier | Chris Hawley | Kazmier stepped down after two seasons as head coach, going 14-9 and leading the Sharks to two playoff berths. Hawley, an assistant coach at various levels, takes over as head coach, coming into Nature Coast from Wheaton College in Illinois, where he has been a running backs coach for four seasons. |
Niceville | Grant Thompson | Thompson stepped down as head coach after six seasons, going 64-10, including taking the Eagles to state semifinals two times. The Eagles currently have a short list of candidates that will be interviewed with a recommendation coming just less than two weeks before spring football commencing. | |
North Bay Haven (Panama City) | Thomas Elliot | Andy Siegal | Elliot was dismissed four games into the 2024 season without explanation, according to the Panama City News Herald. The Buccaneers have since hired former head coach Andy Siegal to lead the team again in 2025. |
North Florida Christian (Tallahassee) | Johnny Nichols | Nichols resigned after one season, going 2-8 and seeing the Eagles miss the playoffs after the team reached the 1S state semifinals in 2023. The Eagles have not named a new head coach as of yet. | |
North Port | Garon Besler | Devon Gales | Besler stepped down after four seasons going 13-24. Gales, an offensive coordinator at Pinellas Park, was named the next head coach for the Bobcats. |
Northeast (St. Petersburg) | Shawn Davis | Auggie Sanchez | Davis stepped down after four seasons, going 25-19, with his best seasons coming in 2021 and 2023 while reaching the playoff three times. Sanchez, a Northeast alum, will take over after serving as the head coach at Seminole (Seminole). |
Northview (Century) | Wesley Summerford | Doug Vickery | After five seasons as head coach, including leading the Chiefs to the Class 1R state title game in 2022, Summerford departed to become the head coach at West Florida, going 32-23 overall. Vickery, who just retired as head coach at Flomaton (AL), just over the state line from Northview, was named the next head coach. Vickery compiled a 130-82 record at Flomaton over 19 seasons. |
Northside Christian (St. Petersburg) | Bailey Granier | Adarius Rayner | Granier stepped down after two seasons as the Mustangs head coach after leading the Mustangs to back-to-back district championships and going 11-11 overall. Granier has since returned to The Master’s Academy in Oviedo while the Mustangs promoted Rayner as the next head coach. |
Oak Hall (Gainesville) | Randy Brower | RJ Fuhr | Brower, who stepped in as the interim head coach for 2024 after Fuhr stepped down, went 4-6 in his lone season as the head coach. Fuhr has since returned after one season away as an assistant coach at Union County to lead the Eagles into 2025. |
Oxbridge Academy (West Palm Beach) | Jonathan Stellman | Jason McCleod | Stellman, who helped lead the ThunderWolves’ return to varsity football, stepped down after three seasons, including two seasons with varsity going 9-9. McCleod, a 2018 Oxbridge Academy alum, will take over as head coach. |
Pace | Kent Smith | Vance Smith | After nine seasons as the Patriots’ head coach, Kent Smith hung up the whistle. He went 52-36, with his best season coming in 2024 in response to being snubbed out of the playoffs in 2023. His son, Vance, was tabbed to take over the Patriots, continuing a Smith legacy of being a part of the Pace program over a span of three-plus decades. |
Pasco (Dade City) | Fred Hicks III | Greg Miller | Hicks was let go as the Pirates head man after going 2-18 in two seasons. Miller, who is no stranger to coaching high school football in Pasco County, having spent time at River Ridge, comes to the Pirates after one year at Pine Ridge. |
Palatka | Patrick Turner | Lantz Lowery | After four seasons, which included three trips to the playoffs, Turner resigned to take the same position at Flagler Palm Coast. Turner leaves Palatka going 22-20. Lowery, a longtime assistant coach at Keystone Heights and Palatka, was tapped as the next head coach of the Panthers. |
Pembroke Pines Charter | Keidran Willis | Willis stepped down after nine seasons as head coach, going 31-48 over that time span. No replacement has been named as of yet. | |
Pensacola Catholic | Matt Adams | Bobby Clayton | Adams, who stepped down after eight seasons and has since become the school’s athletic director, went 57-31 overall, which included several playoff berths and a trip to the state semifinals in 2023. Clayton, who is no stranger to the area, comes to the Crusaders after two years as the head coach at Fort Walton Beach. |
Pine Forest | Tony Carter | Kerry McDowell | Carter stepped down after two seasons as the Eagles’ head coach, going 11-11, which included two playoff berths. McDowell, an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator, was named the next head coach for Pine Forest. |
Pine Ridge | Greg Miller | Alex Russell | Miller stepped down after one season after going 1-8 to accept the same position at Pasco. Russell, a first-time head coach and Pine Ridge alum, comes in after spending time at Crescent City and DeLand in various roles. |
Riverside Christian | Steven Hall | Hall, who helped build up the Riverside Christian program, which has played six-man and eight-man football for most of its existence, left to take the same position at Dixie County. No replacement has been named to take over the Wranglers. | |
Riverview (Sarasota) | Josh Smithers | Mark Cristiani | Smithers stepped down after guiding the Rams for eight seasons, going 66-33. Cristiani, the team’s strength and conditioning coach since 2017, was named the next head coach for Riverview. |
Rockledge | Tyrone Giscombe | John Holmes | Giscombe was placed on administrative leave and subsequently dismissed after one season and did not coach the Raiders in their final two games of the season. In one year, Giscombe was 6-3. Holmes, who served as head coach at Titusville the past three-years, will take over as head coach for his alma mater. |
Saint Francis Catholic | James Langham | Langham stepped down after three seasons, going 3-25 during that time, as the Wolves transition to 8-man football in 2025. Langham will serve as an interim head coach until a new coach is found. | |
St. John Neumann (Naples) | Rich Crosby | Chris Maragos | Crosby who went 10-5 stepped down after two seasons and have turned to Maragos a Super Bowl winning player for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seattle Seahawks to lead the Celtics. |
St. Petersburg Catholic | Jay Davis | Jesse Chinchar | Davis stepped down after eight seasons as head coach going 32-44 during that span. The Barons have since turned to Chinchar who had a successful run at Clearwater Academy International and was an assistant coach at Tarpon Springs this past season after Clearwater Academy International folded their football program. |
Santa Fe (Alachua) | Jason Wells | Earnest Graham | Wells stepped down after going 0-6. The Raiders have now turned to former Florida Gators Graham who has head coaching experience at North Fort Myers and Evangelical Christian with success at both programs to rebuild a struggling Raiders program. |
Satellite (Satellite Beach) | Brian Helton | Dan Burke | Helton stepped down after three seasons, going 11-21 over that time, including playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023. The Scorpions have turned to Hall of Fame coach Dan Burke, who won state titles at Palm Bay while coaching them from 1996 to 2018 and again in 2023. |
Seminole (Seminole) | Auggie Sanchez | Thomas Pipkins | Sanchez, who went 15-14 over the last three seasons as head coach, stepped down to accept the same position at his alma mater, Northeast (St. Petersburg). Pipkins was selected as the next head coach. |
South Broward (Hollywood) | Charles McCrea | Darryl Bethune | McCrea stepped down after three seasons of leading the Bulldogs, which included three playoff appearances, going 17-15 over that stretch. Former Miami Springs head coach Darryl Bethune has been hired to take over the Bulldogs. |
South Dade (Homestead) | Christopher Reid | Patrick Burrows | Reid stepped down as head coach after two seasons, taking the Buccaneers to the playoffs both seasons, going 14-10 overall. Burrows, who previously has been a head coach in South Florida, returns to take over the Buccaneers. |
Steinbrenner (Lutz) | Andres Perez-Reinaldo | Gregg Puskas | After 13 years, Perez-Reinaldo stepped down guiding the Warriors including multiple playoff berths highlighted with a state semifinalist finish in 2019, going 71-62-1 overall. Puskas, a longtime coaching staff member and current girls’ flag football head coach, was promoted to head coach for the Warriors. |
Taravella (Coral Springs) | Clyde Parry | Edward Theirmann | Parry is out after one season with the Trojans, going 0-10. Theirmann, who was an assistant coach last year has been named the next head coach. |
The Master’s Academy (Oviedo) | Garrett Kruzeck | Bailey Granier | Kruzeck, who went 20-3 in two years, including two SSAA State Championships, departed for the same position at Lake Brantley. The Eagles have turned back to Granier, who was head coach in 2021-2022 and went 9-9 during those two seasons. |
Titusville | John Holmes | Matt Diesel | Holmes stepped down after three-seasons going 24-11 including a pair of playoff berths to take the same position at his alma mater Rockledge. Diesel, a longtime coach in Brevard County was tapped to be the next head coach of the Terriers. |

University (Orange City) | Justin Roberts | Matt Trumbly | After two seasons, Roberts resigned as head coach, going 19-5 overall, including earning the team’s first-ever district championship. Trumbly, an assistant coach for 11 years with the Titans, was promoted to be head coach. |
Vernon | Loren Tillman | David Hedges | Tillman was let go after two seasons, going 7-14 overall during that time. Former Niceville offensive coordinator David Hedges has been named the next head coach and athletic director for the Yellow Jackets after spending 2024 at Pine Creek (CO) as the head coach. |
Victory Christian | Kendrick Stewart | Stewart resigned in early April after eight seasons as head coach, going 63-32. A coaching search has not commenced yet for the Storm. | |
Walton (DeFuniak Springs) | Keith White | Jay Lindsey | After four seasons, White stepped down as the Braves head coach, going 34-11 over that time. Offensive coordinator Jay Lindsey, who has previous head coaching experience at Tate, was named the next head coach and athletic director. |
Wellington | Ross Pryor | Pete Walker | Pryor stepped down after two seasons with Wellington, going 6-14 overall. Walker, a Clewiston alum, who is 190-72 overall as a head coach with stops at Glades Day and his alma mater, was named the next head coach for the Wolverines back in December. |
West Florida | Harry Lees | Wesley Summerford | Lees stepped down after three years in his second stint as the Jaguars’ head coach. In between the two stints, he had a stint at Milton from 2017 until 2021and is 91-65 overall as a head coach. Northview head coach Summerford, who has previously coached at West Florida as an assistant coach, was named the Jaguars’ next head coach. |
West Port (Ocala) | Greg Harper | Harper was let go after three seasons as head coach with a 12-18 record with his best season coming in 2023 when the Wolfpack went 6-4 overall. A new head coach has not been named as of yet. | |
