    FL 2nd Round

That’s criminal. Maybe put BT in a different region?

    FL 2nd Round

I don’t agree with that. Any of those teams could win in the next round. And who is the ultimate endgame? Miami Columbus? Big deal. They have a checkered history at best. Any of those teams you mentioned would have a punchers chance against the rest of the state. Is it likely that they’ll win? Probably not, but they’re not bad teams.

    FL 2nd Round

Put this on the nat board. Some of the more interesting games below. Many rematches from previous meetings in the season. I think the playoffs have shown that the rematches are generally much closer or have completely different result. 4M Mandarin @ Lake Mary. Rematch. Apopka @ Seminole. Should be a close game either way. Dr. Phillips @ Plant. Good test to see how far Plant has come back. Could be close or Plant may simply get out physicaled. Western @ Palmetto. Broward v Dade publics. 4S Vero Beach @ Treasure Coast. Rematch. Both teams have had tough schedules (TC more so but VB had a respectable slate) and good years. Bartam Trail @ Niceville. Quite a trek over I-10 for BT. 3M Jones @ Edgewater. Rematch. Excellent teams. Probably don’t like each other that much. Tech @ Armwood. See above. Rematch. Hate each other. 3S Escambia @ St. Augustine. Another I-10 trek. Just the other way. 2M BTW at Central. Rematch. Needs no further explanation. 1R Pahokee @ Williston. Williston very highly ranked in some FL polls.. Pahokee seems to be getting back to its old self.
  4. I may go 5 very winnable 3 tough, 1 you have to play perfect, and 1 pipe dream
  5. Program is on the way up. It takes some time. Stay the course.
  6. Excellent topic. Double edged sword both ways. Playing superior teams that execute well and that are talented helps coaching staffs game plan for future quality opponents and teaches the players the value of focus, hard work, and assignment football . But if a team doesn’t have the talent, desire, or coaching acumen to execute what it learns against quality opponents then a team is just piling up Ls. Sometimes teams learn and get better by winning bc confidence built by winning will make hem work harder to get better. They like the feeling of winning and want to hang onto it. But when they run into a next level opponent they get beaten easily. Schedule should be a mix of winnable games and very challenging games. But more winnable games bc teams need confidence building and self belief.
  7. http://tampasportshistory.blogspot.com/2009/11/plant-plant-city-clash-at-tampa-stadium.html?m=1 Good article about when Plant and Plant Citydrew 23K at Tampa Stadium. I went. I was 10.
  8. I'll say it again. Larger districts. Separate the privates but of course they can play publics during the regular season to fill out their schedules. Using this model, if you use the # 2400 as the bottom of the lower class, you end up with about 81 teams. NONE in the panhandle. This makes for 12 large districts. You can say top two qualify and then 2 at large in each region for a total of 32 teams. This works about the same all the way down. You can fudge the numbers to end up with between 80-100 teams in classes 3A, 2A, and 1A. The only time geography is a problem is in 3A, but it's not too bad. Maybe you go to a regional model in a region or two and take the top 8 based on regional record and rankings. Privates only need two full classes and an open class, which is essentially just a playoff tournament with all of the recruited juggernauts. The open class doesn't need to worry about districts or SOS because they will all qualify for the playoffs.
  9. On a second, third, and fourth look, I'm not sure he contacted his head or neck? Was this just a slap to the shoulder pads? If so this is a big overreaction. If he struck his head, maybe not. But I can't tell in real time.
  10. Palm Harbor U vs Durant - Too close to call. I'll go with the home team for PinellasFB. Pinellas Park vs Jesuit- Jesuit Northeast v. Hillsborough-Hillsborough Larg v. East Bay- Largo St. Pete v. Gaither- Gaither, but they are streaky so this could easily be Green Devils. Clearwater v. Blake- Clearwater Northside v. Carrollwood Day- Carollwood Day
  11. I thought they were fine, but they set up THREE district matchups in the first round that just got played (PC at Plant, Sumner at Riverview, Dr. Pepper v. Olympia).
  12. I was at work this morning catching so I put the youtube show on my phone and saw the brackets live
  13. seems like there are a lot of district rematches in round one. Pretty stupid in my opinion.

  16. dude, give it a rest. Miami Central is going to win regardless.. They are a hell of a football program, and every kid wants to go there in that area. Sorry, demographics rule the day when it comes to Miami Central. But that’s not the general rule in Florida when it comes to pretty good public schools competing with recruited private Powers. Miami Central, is the exception and not a good example to hang your hat on.
  17. too many classes. 4 public school classes would rock. 2 private classes and an open private tournament plucked by having the top 12 private schools including IMG (the real football factories)
  18. and I’m not discounting Pinellas Park. They had two Division I running backs. Keith Stevens, and Dionne Booker. Plant had three Division I. Running backs, Anthony Williams, ReggieJames, and Bernard Bennett. Bernard end up playing tight end at Alabama. Anthony went to Florida. I believe Reggie went to Minnesota, at least for a spell. the Park boys went to Louisville under Schnellenberger. park had a good defense. Not as good as plants defense, but they were able to keep them out of the end zone except for that one time. Plants coach would not kick a field goal even though they were down there several times close. That would’ve easily won the game for them.
  19. I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from something that occurred almost 40 years ago today. Plant was undefeated and ranked first or second in the entire state in the Dunkel index. I can’t remember their actual ranking but it was in the top 3. They played Pinellas Park for the district championship. made a couple of foolish decisions by the goal line after dominating the game. Did not allow an offensive touchdown, but Park ran a kickoff back and scored to tie the game. It looked like the player caught the ball with one knee on the ground but the ref let him run. Anyway, the game ends up in overtime and plant lose by field goal. Did not make the playoffs. Only the district winner. One of the top ranked teams in the entire state was left home. Of course Pinellas Park got beat in the first round.
  20. this shows you the flaws in our stupid playoff system. The district winner should host a game. just another reason for larger districts. Leave it to the state to mess things up. like it or not, Sumner did not win its most important game of the year, and he’s not the district champion. Yet they were awarded with the top seed over for district winners, who took care of business.
  21. You’re putting the cart before the horse. If the private schools were separated, most of the transfer nonsense would stop. The FHSAA can put reasonable measures in place, such as a sit out rule, to prevent transfers from making a huge impact. They can’t control private schools. this is just my two cents. Based on years of observing. You’ve probably done the same. People can reach different conclusions. You don’t have to agree on everything. That’s OK.
  22. We agree on the transfer issue. I think if teams know they aren't competing against Bolles, STA, AHP, Chaminade, Jesuit, Cardinal Gibbons, Cardinal Newman, TCA, NFC, Columbus, Berekely Prep, CCC, Benjamin, Calvarly, etc etc etc., there would be less of an incentive to "recruit" (which is illegal anyway).
  23. This thread is about competition. Not hatred of private schools.I don't hate private schools. I hate tilted playing fields. It makes no sense for STA and the like to play Joe Public for championshps. I know there are occaisonal exceptions (great Lakeland teams that can draw from Polk and eastern Hillsborough, etc.). Back in our day, at least in FL, most private school football was a joke. But Bolles and STA set the blue print and now there are a few dozen private schools trying to fit that model. A public school cannot compete with private schools if a private school decides to become a football factory (educational resources, connections, reduced or comped tuition, football resources, facilities, coaching, recruiting opportunies, etc.). To think otherwise is just not being honest with yourself. I'm all for the private schools doing what they want and competing for mythical National Titles, etc. There are 500-600 public schools at a big disadvantage against private schools when the private school decides to become a football factory (it takes some time and it always doesn't work, but there are enough now that the playing field is unfairly skewed at every level). And BS open transfers (which I'm totally against) don't really even the playing field. The only exception might be Miami-Dade where two or maybe three teams might be able compete at a super elite level just due to the raw talent in the area.
