  1. For the record, I think kids that do virtual school should be allowed to play High School sports as long as they meet the same criteria as a student enrolled at the school. No bending the rules like in this thread. It's a reflection of the parent since the parent took on the responsibility as overseer of the students education. Home schooling is also a big responsibility for the student. A lot of parents trust their child to be studding while they are at work, and instead in some cases the student will be surfing or playing games all day long. It's an easy way to fail if both the parent and student don't take it serious. To stop parents from doing the work for the student, the student must go to a center and be tested for progress, and at the end of each course the student will take a final. My daughter excelled at virtual school because she was away from the drama that some students seem to live for, my daughter included. We set up her work area at my wife's antique store so that we could keep her focused. She also helped run my wife's shop when she wasn't studding. So it works for some, but not others. The reason my daughter was attending private school was because of the drama of Jr High. and she was having to many issue's with boys so we put her in a private school. When the private school closed 2 years later she chose to try Virtual school as an option to public school. She should graduate this December with a GED after doing this for 2 years, or she could go another year and get her high school diploma. She chose the GED so she could enter college a year sooner. So it really is up to the student and the parent because they both have to be responsible, and if the parent fails then there is a good chance the student fails also.
  2. Calpreps has Cocoa ranked at 532, and Trinity Catholic at 85. Cocoa traveled to the Northern part of Kentucky to play Trinity. Trinity paid for the airfare and the Hotel if what I've heard is true. The game started at 7:30 last Friday night and the weather was perfect. The field is the same artificial surface they use in the NFL. Top notch stadium to say the least. Trinity is a very rich school because of the alumni support. Trinity dressed 80 players while Cocoa dressed 30. The cheerleaders for Cocoa displayed a banner that read "30 Players, 1 heartbeat". It fired up the Trinity fans. The student body was very boisterous understandably. Cocoa's opening kick was received at the 10 and returned to the 43 or about. Trinity went 3 and out and punted. Cocoa receives the punt at the 5. Cocoa, runs for a first then passes for a 75 yard TD. Cocoa 7, Trinity 0. Trinity returns the kick to the Cocoa 45, Cocoa kicker injured and taken off the field and transported out. Brooks takes Trinity down the field with some very good power running mixed with great O-line play. Trinity passing game isn't clicking, but Brooks is, TD. Their senior QB was out due to injuries but released to play this week, you will see him the second half. Cocoa takes kick to midfield but is called for holding, the ball is place at the 14. Cocoa gets a first down and then held to a 3rd and 11. Trinity takes the ball to the 32 after a 20 yard punt. Trinity scores on a TD pass on 3rd and 10. Trinity 14 Cocoa 7. Cocoa takes the kick to the 30. Trinity has PI called keeping the drive alive. Cocoa scores on a run. Tied 14-14. Trinity fair catches at the 40. Penalties force a punt, Cocoa has the ball at their 40. Judson to Dean on a deep pass, TD. Cocoa misses extra point. 20- 14 Cocoa. Kick is out of bounds, Trinity ball at the 35. 3 and Out for Trinity. Cocoa lets the punt roll dead at the 20. Judson to Dean for another TD. Cocoa tries for 2 but stopped on the one. 26-14 Cocoa. Cocoa kicks it out of bounds again. Trinity starts at the 35 again. Brooks is a beast running over tacklers in gains of 4 and 5 yards per. Brooks rips one off for 20. Trinity moving the ball. QB fumbles the hand off, A nice drive killed by the Sophomore QB. His time is limited. Cocoa takes over at the 27, 3 and out. Punt is a beauty. Trinity hits a deep pass and Brooks takes the ball inside the redzone. Brooks is unstoppable, Trinity first and goal with 45 seconds in the half. Trinity throw a interception, Cocoa kneels to end the half. Cocoa take the kick to start the second. Cocoa takes the ball on the 20, drives to the T46, 3rd and 6. 4th and 2. Trinity takes over on downs, nice stop. New QB for Trinity as they send in their senior. 3 and out, Trinity punts. After a very nice punt to the 5, Cocoa gets a first and then drops a sure TD pass, Dean was all alone at midfield, the ball was right on the numbers, he's gotta feel sick. Cocoa punts, mishandled by Trinity but they recover at the 46. Cocoa is looking tired, but still lots of time left. This could be bad for Cocoa. Couple of flags thrown Cocoa's way. Mistakes are keeping the drive alive. Trinity on Cocoa's 37, 4th and one Trinity going for it. Brooks gains 3 yards on sheer strength, he runs like Peterson. Always getting yards after being hit. TD Pass Trinity on a well defended WR. Senior QB has a decent arm. Nice accurate throw into coverage. Game on, Cocoa 26, Trinity 21. Trinity pumped up and going crazy. Cocoa takes the kick to the 39. 3 and out, bad snap, Gardner has to leap to catch the snap and the defenders are swarming him, he get about 15 yards but short of the 1st down. Trinity takes over on a short field. Trinity feeds Brooks the ball, he is running his heart out. 5, 10, 15, Brooks is hitting holes hard and gaffing Cocoa's D. Brooks runs in for a TD. 28-26, Trinity takes the lead. PF called on Trinity, will accessed on the kick. The fans are going crazy. Cocoa takes the kick to the 50. Cocoa is feeding Weaver the ball, he still looks healthy and getting some yards. Cocoa drives in for a TD, but misses extra point, Cocoa takes the lead back. 32-28 Cocoa. Kick goes out of bounds again for the 4th time. Trinity is feeding Brooks the ball, he is unstoppable. Brooks will have over 200 yards if he keeps it up. TD Brooks, 35 - 32 Trinity takes the lead back. 10 minutes left. Cocoa 3 and out. Trinity with 9 minutes left, the 3 missed extra points are really looking bad for Cocoa right now. Trinity takes the ball to the 45 on a short kick. Brooks takes it to the 25. 4 minutes left. Brooks to the 20, Brooks to the 12. First and goal at the 8. Holding Trinity, declined, 2nd and goal from the 11. Brooks to the 3, 3rd and goal. Brooks to the 2, Brooks hit in the back field for a 1 yard loss. Cocoa ball with 1:50 left. Weaver run to the 15 gives Cocoa some room. Cocoa slow to get the ball off, 1:20 on the clock. Judson to Dean, Dean tackled before the ball is to him, no PI called, Cocoa fans booing, Trinity fans cheering. It was a PI. It's the only bad call tonight, and at the worse time. Judson runs out of bounds and gains another 1st. Clock with 52 ticks now. Weaver run up the middle gets 7 yards, why run now when you have Judson and Dean??? Cocoa with another run, omg, are you kidding me??? 3rd Time out called. Judson drops to pass, WR's are covered, Judson is sacked, 1st of the night. 4th and 3 with 42 seconds left, Cocoa is near the 50. Judson drops back, receivers are scrambling, Judson heads for the sideline and is stopped a yard short. 35 seconds left and Trinity takes over on downs. Trinity is in the victory formation. Kneels twice and ends the game. Have to say it was exciting and that doesn't really make it sound as good as the game was. A very talented Cocoa was evenly matched up against a very talented school. It was David vs Goliath. Trinity had the depth to take it all 4 quarters while Cocoa looked tired at the start of the 4th yet they never quit. I have to say that no team Cocoa's size in America will beat them. They looked that good that night. The injured Kicker will play for Cocoa for another 4 years. His parents are behind him and are very supportive. It is really a shame he is injured so early in the season. As an 8th grader, he will have many opportunities ahead of him, and I hope to see him on the field in December.
  3. I think these are the correct scores ... Check em STA 20 Miramar 12 Bartram 7 St. Augustine 10 Oakleaf 16 Atlantic Coast 14 West Boca 7 Royal Palm Beach 17 Pine Forrest 12 Escambia 41 Holmestead 8 Norland 12 Miami Carol 20 Northwestern 26 Godby 48 Leon 7 Raines 34 Bolles 33 Haines 12 Lakeland Christian 25 Warner 62 Trintiy Deltona 22 Blountstown 14 South Walton 28 Coconut Creek 46 Dillard 16 Atlantic Delray 35 Forest Hill 0 Springstead 6 Sunlake 0 Madison 7 Trinity Jax 42 Miami Jackson 7 Booker T Miami 55 Venice 20 Charlotte 6 Jesuit 20 Largo 18 North Marion 26 Suwannee 30
  4. Just to keep the board talking I thought I would bring up this game. Both teams are about even talent wise. Cocoa may have a little more octane on Defense while Trinity looks about even on offense, talent wise. Special team play could be the factor, isn't that what they say when 2 teams are matched up fairly well? It the old saying holds true then it could be a long ride home for Cocoa, but my gut is saying that Cocoa will bring their game to Kentucky and play their hearts out. They need this OOS win for the respect that it will bring back to Florida. I can't give an honest opinion on the score since I'm bias toward Cocoa, so I'll just say that the game could be decided by a FG, and our 8th grade kicker better start practicing for the biggest kick of his life. lol... Any thoughts?
  5. It may be down if your only looking at the teams that are normally talked about. However I see a lot of teams that are playing better this year that are normally mid to high level teams. So yeah, if your talking about Florida elites... it all goes in cycles, some last longer and some only a year or 2.
  6. I think it ended at 61 - 0 IMG. OUCH... this will burn for awhile.
  7. Nationally IMG is ranked 129. A little high in my opinion, but my opinion doesn't count so take it for what it is, nobodies opinion. Dillard has at least one thing going for them against IMG. They're undefeated and IMG isn't. Do I think Dillard will win tonight? Probably going to be a long game for the Panthers, but a win can be had. They better play their best game, they better want it more, they better believe they can win it, and they better never give up on the line cause IMG has some talent. “I think the most important thing of all for any team is a winning attitude. The coaches must have it. The players must have it. The student body must have it. If you have dedicated players who believe in themselves, you don’t need a lot of talent.†Bear Bryant Now go kick some ass tonight.
  8. Well I missed last week and it's a little of a late start, but what the hey.
  9. Clewiston is better than they are being given credit. It's not that Ely is worse than normal, just that Clewiston brings back almost the entire 2013 roster. The scary part is that they have a very good defense and will take most teams to the 4th.
  10. Armwood at Plant, one of the better games IMO. Cocoa plays Titusville Friday night at Cocoa. Listed is Melbourne vs Titusville, they do not play this year.
  11. Their only loss was to Maryland's ECA allstat team. Of course they play in 2A so I have to think their schedule was a little softer than what 4A - 8A are used to. That doesn't mean they can't play up and win though. BTW will be a big test no matter what their record is come regionals. They got a thang for some teams and Cocoa is on that list. If nothing else maybe Cocoa will boost the SOS, that's if Cocoa can hold their nuggets together until the playoffs. One more thing to consider. Clewiston is looking good this year. A lot return to the team from last year. I think only 2 of their better starters left. Looking forward to the season kicking off next week.... about time.
  12. Great write up. Looking forward to reading the rest.
  13. So how shocked would ya'll be it they beat them TerNaders?
  14. Just my humble opinion from what I've read here and elsewhere... STA has the all-star team of 2014 with talent in every area of the field. I have to believe that the Raiders are going to score a few hard earned TD's in this super match up. Plantation isn't going to slip in and take anyone by surprise this year and they do not need a sneak attack to get some points. The AH offense has already proven they can take anyone down to the wire. Sony will be missed, but there were enough skill players coming back and a few transfers that will fill the gaps and more. They have the depth if needed. STA will test AH's defense in every way, and Bosa will make some plays. STA's Achilles heal has been the Special teams in the past, and AHP will have a little edge. Hard one to predict. Both have all the skill players in the right places. STA may have the edge in talent, but AHP has Rumph who can pull the rabbit out of the hat were Casullo seems a little predictable at time's. IMO, Plantation had a softer schedule than most teams that were ranked as high as they were. We didn't really get to see what they had other than Cypress Bay and Mainland played a good game and then they lost to Central in a game which I don't think they were ever in control of. STA just blew some games and that is all on Casullo. Were Smith still HC I would declare STA the next National Champs. I don't know why but I'm not sold on Casullo as an HC, and that's why I'm calling this one closer than it should be. Plantation 17, STA 24. Football is finally here.
  15. Sounds like Cocoa. A lot of skill players, just not a lot of depth. Should be an exciting game, win or lose.
  16. I follow the Brevard teams fairly close, but I put Cocoa under the microscope. Rockledge grat of 71. My son played for Cocoa pre Wilks. Off question. What chance does Champagnat realistically have of beating Cocoa. I've been hearing of the talent they have and the team speed is abudant. How good is the offense?
  17. I would like to see 5 classes, 6 max. 4 might be a little to few unless you take the privates and put them in their own class which I would not like to see. 5 or 6 would make the playoffs much harder to be champ. The reason it will not happen is because of money and losing a bunch of games means less cash.
  18. I like Glades chances of having a turn around season. The team needed a spark and maybe Butts can put some of that old spark back into them tough ass guys in the muck. I miss GC being the big dogs of the south. Everybody in Florida feared them guys. I'm a Rock grad and we were cautious going to the muck to play GC. And going early to tailgate was totally out of the question. With Ice going to the U and Jr coming in as coach seems a little odd. I know, I heard and read all the stories about how Jr has been on the sidelines in his fathers shadow... Question is, how many times has Jr beed the HC when Ice is not on the sidelines? Things always look good when you have a mentor to fall back on, but when he is no longer on the sidelines and the tactics fall on your shoulders, the game gets played a little different. We will just have to watch and see if Jr can be the same, better, or not as good as Ice was. Jr is the real BTW question and I've heard all the BTW faithful calling Jr to be the next high school football god. Time will bring truth out. justsayin...
  19. Texas, Florida, California and Ohio will be in it often.
  20. The Cocoa Tigers made a run from 2008 through 2010. Took down some heavies along the way. #1 Abalene Tx, #54 Thomas Jefferson Pa and Olive Branch. They did meet their maker in 2011 when they lost to Colerain Oh, Skyline Tx, W. Monore La and MC Fl. They should be on the rise again since they have the #1 Sophmore QB in Judson and the fastest RB in Fl in J Dean along with some capable receivers coming back. Their question mark will be the O-line and if they can hold off a decent pass rush. You can expect another above average defense this year.
  21. Will be looking forward to the release of the Florida Dynasty Rankings. 1. STA - They better start winning out very soon or they will lose ground here. 2. Manatee - One off year doesn't take them down to much in the rankings. 3. Bolles - Corky took them on some good runs, but in the end they have a softer schedule than most. 4. MC - Consistantly in the top 5 - 10 of Florida rankings. 5. Plant - Always seem to be in the top 10 at the start of the season, but lose one or 2 until the playoffs. 6. BTW - Harris puts this team in your face, If he hadn't taken some time at the U, they would be #1. 7. Armwood - Give back one championship doesn't take them out of it. 8. Cocoa - Wilks has the Tigers on a winning path to the playoffs most every year. 9. Lakeland - Dreadnaughts have fallen and can't get up. It would not surprise me to see them come alive soon. 10 Northwestern - Another team that needs to make a statement soon. 11. Dwyer - 10 years of mostly getting it done, but a few bad years here and there. 12. L:incoln - You can never count them out until you put them out in the playoffs. 13. Glades Central - Has the magic left this proud program or just the rabbit? 14. Pensacola Catholic - some good runs from the north. 15. St. Augustine - Lots of playoff time get this team in. 16. Madison County 17. Apopka 18. Jefferson Tampa 19. Godby 20. Daytona Mainland 21. Palm Bay 22. Miramar 23. Heritage Plantation 24. Trinity Catholic 25. American Heritage Delray Not sure how much in order they really are, but most of these teams have had a good run more than a few times.
