Well if we’re gonna go that route Zoe there hasn’t been a CONSISTENT power in Broward County public school wise since the 90s Deerfield beach are they really a power ? Or just a school that’s attractive for transfers because of the coaching staff they have ?? Deerfield doesn’t even have a state championship to their name period. Miramar last and only state championship was in 09 so are they really a power last public school to win it all was Flanagan in 2015 and that’s when they were full of transfers now look their a cellar dweller team.them that leads Broward County in football championships public school wise is DILLARD WITH 2 and they haven’t won one since the 90s so what does that tell you. Am I wrong @OldSchoolLion

Wrong.  Devin Bush brought in nearly all of these kids from the AYFL where he coached Pembroke Pines.  Bush made this team a little better every year by keeping his talent home over a 4 year cycle while he was at Flanagan. The team was very competitive under Bush and 3 or 4 kids (who grew up playing for Bush in youth football in Pembroke Pines) returned to Flanagan which helped lead 2015 Flanagan's Defense to that elite form.  Bush left for Michigan in 2016  and Stanford Samuels took over the program in which Flanagan had a pretty good season.  Samuels son graduated and went to FSU.   Samuels resigned and Flanagan did not hire within in which they had several assistants on staff that were probably fit to take over .  All coaches left and  lots of talent followed suit.  Flanagan hired the longtime Hollywood Hills HC and he lasted a year.

The facts are Devin Bush took over a average 8A program,  built a mini 4-5 power cycle by bringing in his talented youth team and other players from the area from 9th grade.  Bush was successful by keeping kids home and not leaving in a very stacked area of Broward County.  Granted Bush also attracted talent but it wasn't like 2015 was this fly by night roster put together. 3 or 4 kids transferred to that team.

How many of all those talented kids that played for Devin Bush left Flanagan while he was there to play for other local private or public powers?

    Tell me one.

When will the schedules officially be released ? And wat do u expect from the likes of Ely Boyd Anderson northeast archbishop western and piper ??

Western should be solid. Archbishop had a mini exodus losing all top players and will likely battle to stay out of a four way basement battle with Boynton Beach, Northeast, and Boyd Anderson.

Dillard should be able to win that ugly district with relative ease.  Still May but this is the weakest I have seen that District .

Ely and possibly Piper could be competitive with Dillard.

Lol It ain't no pressure I found out our starting QB was competing in baseball that's why our O looked crazy last week with Coach J son at qb, he made it look like we ain't have no receivers frfr

So the other QB would have made it look like you had no secondary?

Stranahan opend a few eyes last year creek gave gibbons all they could handle so they could possibly be sleepers as far as 5a I agree it’s open right now with AHP being the favs of course.

Stranahan lost a great HC but still likely have some talent over there.  I expect Creek to be solid this year...  Not at the 2015 level,  but could see the playoffs.

Well AHP is losing a lot so cardinal gibbons winning 5a wouldn't be a huge stretch but a lot can happen between now and August

Well, as of mid-May ...AHP is reloading a lot faster then Cardinal Gibbons so keep that in mind also. It should be a competitive District either way.

Lol same coach still have the same qb I think they probably still be a force to reckon with for most of Broward probably just not a state title contender

They will still be a force in SFL....5A South as a whole will likely not be nearly as stacked as last year with the likes of AHP, Cardinal Gibbons, Immokalee, Jones, and Rockledge.  IMO most of,  or perhaps all of those teams won't be quite as strong as last year.  I do however feel all of those teams will again be in the mix as contenders to get to Orlando. I'm also keeping an eye on Jackson, Coconut Creek and Bishop Moore.  Also trying to learn a little more about Hallandale, Stranahan and a little to the north Suncoast, Port St. Lucie and Clewiston.

Geez then why does everyone keep saying they supposed to be good this year

They will be good this year. Likely contending for state.....I'm just presenting what they lost. Not saying they can't be as good or better then last year but they clearly took a hit and may not be able to fill some of those shoes...

  8. Is it me or do transfers seem to be down in SFL overall this year?

I would say this year the team that has been impacted the most with players leaving thus far is Archbishop McCarthy. But not close to what we saw in 2017 with neighboring school Flanagan - impacted severely.  How much did this damage did this exodus do to 2017 Flanagan ?

Here are just a few players that transferred out :

WR Marvin Alexander > Won a State Championship with Chaminade-Madonna > Signed with Kentucky.

LB/DE Zachary Dixon Jr> Won a State Championship with Chaminade-Madonna> Signed with Georgia State

DE/LB Dwayne Boyles> Miami Central > Signed with South Florida.

S Davonta Wilson> Miami Central > Signed with Murray State.

S Arthur Braithwaite> Miami Central> Signed with Western Kentucky

S Hunter Goetz> Miami Central> Signed with Liberty

OL Troy Ingle > Won a State Championship with AHP>  Signed with Western Kentucky

S Dyllon Lester> Won a State Championship with AHP > Signed with UCF

    Underclassmen:

2020 DB Benjamin Onwuzo> Won a State Championship with Chaminade Madonna> D1 offers

2020 DB Rony Bourdeau> Won a State Championship with Champagnat Catholic  > D1 Offers

    Others of note:

QB Desjuan Kearse > Won State Championship with Champagnat Catholic > D1 PWO or D2 school

DB Michael Williams> Miami Central> D1 PWO (UNLV?/FAU?) or D2 school (Valdosta State?)

There were probably 5-10 others that may have landed at D2, D3 , JUCO or NAIA programs.  All Flanagan Coaches transferred out to the above and surrounding schools as well.

That is how you go from a potential 2017 8A State contender to a one win season basically over about a month in the off-season.

Archbishop McCarthy has taken a hit this year but fortunately we have not seen a mass exodus like 2017 Flanagan and Coral Springs.

From what it's looking like cardinal gibbons may be the best team in broward county and the entire state, unless something drastic changes there

Haven’t heard anything about them ...but even better then I think 3 time defending champ heritage ..better then STA ? Better then Img ?

And if so ...crap.! We play at gibbons this year lol

I'll just throw this out there..

Cardinal Gibbons lost their entire WR core, entire secondary , most LBs and one of the best Kickers in the state.

CG will likely be younger overall then last year.

Actually Miami Central went to AHP and won in 2013. Maybe you have your years mixed up?

You are correct, it seemed like it may have been longer then that but my point is there is no perfect world.  There are lots of teams down here that bounce in and out of the top 100 and sometimes the top 25.  We could make loads of "why not" and "what if " match ups but at the end of the day programs do things that suit their needs and objectives.

I think AHP lost 1 game that year Central beat them n won states

I know ....I don't even know when that game was but it was just some random match up I spit out  I would have like to have seen over the last few years but has not happened .  The point is sometimes things just don't happen and no perhaps one is running from anyone perhaps both teams just enjoy paid vacations out of state versus appealing to the FL fans.  There are lots of other elements in scheduling (especially now with the new system) other then making fans happy.

There are just some matchups that don't happen.  DFB and AHP usually play a solid non-district schedule travelling out of county and out out state.  Not sure if and when those two Broward powers have ever met.

The only SFL power that I question is Dwyer who to my knowledge in history of the program (nearly 30 years) have never played versus  Broward or Dade in regular season

  12. Yeah...How does that work?

Central was a better team then STA last year.  Central appears to have added possibly bigger names in talent then STA this off-season while STA is coming off one of the worst teams in a while and currently does not appear close to the roster strength of pre-2017 (2016,2015,2014) yet STA is 110% deliberately scheduling Central when "they are down. "

If anything one could argue it was the other way around.  STA is the one that is less of their usual team, super power state of late.  But let's just put STA at fault because there is a opportunity to put blame on them.  Just because ....

Unreal....I tell you even when STA does not even get to states,  the witch hunt does not let up.

You know what is really interesting .  Miami Central has not played AHP since 2008 .  Since AHP has become a national power, Central has been dodging them.

Words to my son wanting to chase a dream...."What is YOUR back-up plan if things do not work out?"  If his answer is, "I'll come back home to live and go back to school and you will pay for it, dad...."  ...bad answer.  More "adult" children(many with college degrees) are living with their parents than any time in history.  And many parents are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy.  That tells me that more so than ever, kids need to be very cautious about choosing a career path that will allow them maximum latitude, high odds of success, and an ability to make good money right out of college.   In today's economy, failure to do so could mean a life of poverty.

As an aeronautical engineer, you are probably safe if you do not make it as an astronaut.  But how about all of the kids who chased their "dream" of going to college, have useless degrees, and are facing a lifetime of debt they may never overcome...some of whom had no business in college but whose parents were afraid to throw a red flag and let them have their way.  I did not have parents to fall back on for economic support if things did not work out, so I passed on my dream to be an artist because I knew I would likely be living on the street if things did not work out.

As we all know, certain career paths have major barriers...gender, race, size...that play into the risk decision of pursuing that path.  Today I am much more risk averse because of the economy.  So call me a coward or racist for advising an average white kid(who would have to sacrifice studies for athletics in college) to look at other options beyond his dream of being an All-America cornerback:).

I know nothing about this kid’s goals and dreams and it is not my business. Why not wish our youth prosperity with academics and athletics?

I’m not going to assume, agree or disagree with what appears to be borderline sarcastic and condescending statements with smiley faces. In fact , I’ll just tap out now as I am not going to support or engage in a string which appears to be bringing down a 10th grader.

  15. Not disputing this information...

Getting back to the original topic..... These offers flat out were not available at his previous school.  There are others out there but next time I will be sure not to use a white, asian, indian, latino, arab or of of mixed descent WR/DB as  an example even though it was not relevant to the topic.  Cannot believe what it led to on this string...

The rest of the rhetoric is what you foresee for this individual based on the numbers and your personal opinion. Fair enough?
