Individuals should seek training in the areas where their prior preparation and innate ability best suit them. For some that is college. For others it is something else.
At the end of the day, it's about being able to support oneself and dependents and being able to contribute to society when your playing days are over.
College is fine for athletes that have a decent shot at the pros or come in prepared to take advantage of the academic opportunities it provides. For others, it literally ends up being a wasted four years. It all depends on the kid's circumstances, aptitude and attitude.

Well every team in the tournament are from past seasons so rosters already set
But can't we go back in time and alter the past via transfers? That would be neat!

He got bench last year for Elijah Stimmell. Stimmel is also back. Stimmel went 5-0 as a starter to end the season. Cyr has a chance to be pretty good and only going to be a junior.
Ah, did not realize he had been benched. That explains it. With DP's starter gone, it's a chance for a new beginning.

6’5 class of 2020 QB Brenden Cyr transferred from West Orange to Dr. Phillips.
I am surprised. He had big targets to throw to at West Orange.

For sure. Agree...I just thought Columbia might be have his words twisted a bit based on what Wekiva is bringing back this year.
I was just mainly replying to Columbia that Wekiva has a pretty damn good start on paper with being able to "stack up" with central FL teams based on what they have for talent returning. 7 return on Defense alone with Power 5 offers which is pretty impressive.
In terms of recognized talent, they are the best team on paper. There are two or three teams I think will be as good or better on the field.

We are in March...9 players with power 5 offers and 7 on defense. My question is how do other Central FL teams stack up with Wekiva?
A couple will match up okay.

DB curious what is the support like for Wekiva?
In general, not that good. The Apopka/Wekiva game usually draws well, as Wekiva, as well as Apopka fans turn out for that. Last season, when Wekiva made a run, support increased as the season went on.
The problem Wekiva has, is that it does not have a natural support base. The community around Wekiva has changed quite a bit over the last 15 -20 years. About half their kids went to Piedmont Lakes Middle School. When my kids went to Piedmont Lakes, it was a predominantly white school. However, now Piedmont Lakes is predominantly minority. And, the demographics there are now poorer. Unlike Apopka which draws a lot of kids from "Old Apopka," people who are not going anywhere regardless of race, Piedmont's population was made up of lower middle income New Apopka. Thus that community was less stable.
The above said, if Wekiva continues to do well, and this season should be a good one for them, I am sure their fan support will continue to improve. Their coaching staff is good and experienced. So, I would expect them to continue to attract good athletic talent.

I'm taking the coaching advantage in this game
Which team has the coaching advantage? I know you read the football section on the national board more than I do.

Weren't they also young last year?
At some positions, yes. At others, no. Don't get me wrong, Osceola will probably be as good as they have been the past three years. But I think a couple of teams in the area are going to be better. I will confirm as the Spring games unfold and update my thoughts then.

What's your all's thoughts on this early poll i wrote up
1 Cardinal Gibbons 5A
Cardinal Gibbons was a very good team last year and while they may not be as loaded as last year they are a well coached team and with AHP losing quite a bit this is the year of the chiefs in 5A
2 Miami Carol City 6AFrom one Chiefs to another, Miami Carol City won the title 2 years ago but early indication is they could be slim favorites over Miami Northwestern this year and the key to that is the 2018 qb transfer they got from BTW, expect Carol City to contend and potentially win 6A
3 American Heritage Plantation 5AAmerican Heritage Plantation, the 2 time defending state champions of 5A is losing a lot but can't be completely counted out just yet and will still contend with fellow district foe cardinal gibbons as 5a contenders, they will still probably get some talent in transfer season while sta is struggling
4 Miami Northwestern 6AMiami Northwestern is the defending 6a state champions but still has some holes to fill if they hope to defend the championship this year, they should be a solid top 5 team in the state and Will contend with fellow district foe Miami Carol City for the 6A championship
5 Osceola 8AOsceola has been one of the most consistent central Florida teams as of late but generally just are stuck as the second best team in their classification However i feel they have potential to finally break through this year, they overall were kinda young last year but usually are talented enough to contend in any classification
6 Columbus 8AAnother team who usually falls short despite constantly being towards the top of their classification but sooner or later they will break through and win state, they also were young last year but are generally talented and well coached but usually have misfortune of facing a superior athletic team in the playoffs
7 Chaminade Madonna 3AChaminade has recieved a lot of hype that this year will be better than last year but I'm going to wait and see on that statement, i don't know if skill positions Will be as good as last year but they should be good in the trenches which i feel is enough to make them a top 10 FL team and the favorite to win 3a
8 Lakeland 7AI've been hearing good things about lakeland early on this off-season and with sta being down it could be a good opportunity for Lakeland to finally break through and win another championship but 7a north will still have a few hungry teams looking to get their championship while sta is down
9 Armwood 6AArmwood is generally one of the top teams in the state each year despite failing in 4 tries to win state since 2013, armwood will be young this year but with 6a north likely in a down year it wouldn't be a surprise if they are still good enough to win the north, only current threat i see in 6a north to them is St Augustine and Maybe vanguard
10 Raines 4ARaines might be biggest surprise in my top 10 but here's some background, Jacksonville publics will probably be down this year and with cocoa having question marks i expect raines to get some transfers and be by far the best jax public school in 2018 and will be my early pick to win 4a this year
There are a couple Central Florida teams that will probably be better than Osceola this year. More to come on this later.

At 7 ft 440 he probably does what he wants Darter. Did anyone notice the one clip they showed him actually playing he jumped off sides and knocked the kid down. I'm sure at that size he struggles to be athletic enough to make any plays. Better hope he doesn't fall on you.
That's one of the reasons I wouldn't let him get that big. Don't want him flattening his old pops!

Lion, this kid will be lucky to see 40. If he were my son, even at 7 feet, I would not have allowed him to get anywhere near that large. After he left home, he could always do what he wanted. But while living with me, no way.
No hate for the kid; just assessing reasonable probabilities!

Well recently i have noticed a lot of talented players have chosen to transfer to Columbia instead of stay at Suwannee plus it hasn't been a very stable program lately
Either reason has had a impact but i wish we had a Suwannee person to give further details since I don't know what things are internally over in live oak
A young man I worked with on a project in 2004 had been the kicker at Suwannee back in the late 1990s. He was a smart, nice young man and had a very pleasant fiancee. I tried to convince him to come work for my employer, but he declined as he did not want to leave the Sarasota area. It may have had to do with his fiancee being from Sarasota and not wanting to relocate to Tampa or Orlando.

It's sad, really. Suwannee was a real good team when I moved to Florida in the early 1990s. I don't know what happened. Did the County lose population or something?

Define good lol
Good as in competitive. I have a general idea what Columbia will have. Even when you don't perform up to expectations, your team still has some good athletes. If you are playing a team that's off to a good start (say 3-0, 4-1 or such), then that would probably be a good match-up for Columbia assuming that team had played decent competition.

From Downtown Orlando to downtown Apopka is about 18 miles. It is Northwest of Orlando and borders both Seminole County and Lake County (if you count Plymouth and Zellwood as part of Apopka).

How is apopka the city
You have old Apopka and you have new Apopka. Old Apopka is part rural, part small town and part inner city. New Apopka is mostly suburban and ranges from lower middle income to upper income. Old Apopka provides most of the talent on the football team, but not all. New Apopka has come about as the Metro Orlando area grew, and people working in the area had a need for more housing.
The three main roads running near or through the heart of Apopka are 441, known as Main Street when it passes through Apopka; Park Avenue which started off as Apopka Vineland Road and then becomes Rock Springs Road later on; and a section of 436 which ends when it merges into 441.
There is not a lot for young people to do in downtown Apopka. But stuff is near enough (either in an Apopka zip code or in adjoining sections of Orange and Seminole counties) so that if you have transportation you can do city type stuff.
Oh, and the town loves Apopka's football team. The school probably has the best consistent attendance in the Metro Orlando area.
Don't know if the above helps a bit. I would be glad to answer more specific questions.

I just wish i got a chance to catch up with darter at the game
Guess one these days darter should come up to Lake City since i already made travel to apopka @DarterBlue2
Maybe sooner than you think. I have always wanted to check out the famed jungle. Now that I am retired, I have a little more time on my hands. When schedules for all Orlando area teams are posted, I will take a look at which weeks seems relatively bare in the area. If I find a bad week with no Apopka district game and no other big games in the greater Orlando area, I may make the trip up if Columbia has a good opponent.

Yes, they would. And they would have won. But the margin would not have been 41 points and Apopka would have definitely scored.

Wasn't that Boone game down in south Florida?
It was in Orlando, 2007. Boone had upset Apopka by 3 in a semifinal the week before, in a game Apopka could have easily tied if we had a kicker (went for it on 4th down well within field goal range in the dying moments of the game). MNW had come back to beat Deerfield Beach inside the final two minutes on a Jacori Harris led drive, depriving the Bucs of an upset.
The following week, in front of 21000 fans from Boone and Northwestern, the Bulls dominated in the final. Boone came into the game like a deer in the headlights of a vehicle. There was probably no way they could have won as that MNW team had about 7 future NFL players on the roster, but I do think they were overwhelmed by the event and could probably have done better had they been more positive.

Hawaii is pretty expensive, too! But I agree with the cultural change comment. Perhaps his dad can get a job as a lobbyist!
