And, IMO, why unrestricted transfers should not be the flavor of the day. Hallandale is only one example of this misguided policy, How many other schools in Florida have their rosters wiped out due to transfers? Remember, many of these schools have only one or possibly two exceptional players on the team. Take away that and a fairly good team becomes an also ran. If this is going on with the sport of football I'm quite sure it's going on with other sports. The effect is that out of hundreds of high schools in Florida only a very few become nearly unbeatable except by another unbeatable team. I don't believe that this was the original intent of institutions that help to mold young minds in their formative years.

This has already happened my friend.  Only going to get worse.

As far as Football is concerned. Poinciana had tried to get games with both but lost out due to scheduling. The orange county Ad had a lot to do with their scheduling. I know one of the coaches and hoping they will do well!

Still trying to rebuild poinciana. This will be my first year with a schedule that I was able to negotiate. Hopefully we will do well. With our long time rival (Liberty)  having to find a new coach after the spring, hopefully this will do well for us. I feel this is a respectable schedule , knowing who we are and the level of competition. We will be challenged ! but have the ability to win a few games this year. not stuck in a unwinnable district (bartow, winterhaven, george jenkins, all good teams but over our heads)

    Poincianas schedule:

    KOC Cypress creek

    Week 2 Celebration

    week 3 Mulberry

    Week 4 Lake region

    Week 5 Tenoroc

    Week 6 Foundation Academy

    Week 7 Davenport

    Week 8 Haines City

    Week 9 Parrish Community

    Week 10 Akelyns Angels

    Week 11 Liberty

We are still trying to find our beginning. Winning 7 games in the last 2 years is a good start. Better results than the last many years. But we are still behind the sticks when it comes to athletes. Not disrespecting our kids. But so many of the kids zoned for Poinciana are going to other schools including our rival!

I fully expect a winning season with that schedule.  The Polk schools are struggling minus 1st year Davenport and that depends on what they were able to get from Ridge, LOL.

A few years ago we kind of briefly touched on this topic, but I really had to go look at the numbers to see just How Frequently Broward county (PUBLIC) Schools actually hoist the FHSAA trophy in football.

when you look at counties with the most talent across the entire state BROWARD COUNTY will come in No Less Then #2 in the ENTIRE state only behind Miami but yet these numbers Below Are VERY alarming.

since 1986-2020 these are your BROWARD COUNTY (PUBLIC SCHOOL) champions.

1986 - Dillard Beat Tarpon Springs

    1989 - Dillard Beat Merritt island 40-14

2002- Blanche ely beat Wharton high

    2009 Miramar defeated DEland

    2015 Flanagan beat Osceola

    2016 - NONE

    2017 - NONE

    2018- NONE

    2019 - NONE

    2020- NONE

So from 1986-2020 there has only been 5 Broward county public school football titles (SMH) which two was from Dillard.

After 1989 There were only 2 Broward county public schools to make the state championship game from 1990-2000 & the two teams were

1992- Dillard who was beaten by manatee

2000- Dillard lost 10-6 to Palm Bay

before 1986 the last broward county public school to hoist a Football title was

Hollywood Hills who defeated Raines 22-9 in 1973!!!!!

so again I ask, WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON with The public schools in broward county !???? I would love feed back from you guys on this topic @badbird @VeniceIndiansFootball @ColumbiaHighFan2017class @DarterBlue2 @561_Fan @MC Rockets @muckboy561

The same thing is going on with Duval.  The bigger question is can public/private co-exist an be somewhat equally productive in title count?

You have to take into account the mental aspect of playing them as well. A lot of teams lose to IMG before they even step on the field. Lakeland is one of the very very few exceptions to the rule. They have had legendary coaching from Bill Castle within their program. I’m not sure there are many guys around who know as much about the game of football as he does. It’s surprising, too, because Lakeland is in a less populous area than many other schools in Polk county.  Therefore, they “should” have less talent than, say, an STA or Miami powerhouse. As for your original question. I believe that there is more knowledge to Be had from scheduling IMG than a Vero Beach. IMG is so overwhelming that any issues you have as a team are going to be in full display. This gives coaches and players more motivation to work harder, and watch more film to gain a competitive edge over these teams. Simply put, game planning against IMG gives you more insight as to where your program currently stands, and how you can plan and prepare for teams of similar magnitude. Additionally, it motivates players more to win. Imagine what the feeling of getting a victory over a team like that would be? Playing IMG helps a lot of teams prepare for the playoffs, and give teams a more competitive edge and reason to win. And when they inevitably get crushed like a soda can, a good coaching staff will tell their kids, “you gave it your all, now here’s what we can do to move on.” They will move on, analyze the game film, understand what went wrong, and live to play another day. That is why you schedule IMG over other tough teams when building a program. Just my 2 cents, you can disagree with me if you hold a different opinion.

Lakeland is the largest (and densest) city in Polk County.  The next largest city is Winter Haven which is less than half Lakeland's size.  Also, the Lakeland area (suburbs) is around 300K.  Naturally, that leaves the remaining 424K for the rest of Polk County which is spread out amongst smaller cities, suburban neighborhoods and unincorporated areas due to sprawl.  When it comes to talent, a lot of people underestimate how much talent there is in Polk County.  No one talks about or remembers all the years Lakeland dominated cross-town rival Kathleen and during the Red Devils worst years, they routinely had more D1 talent and produced more NFL players than Lakeland.  I digress.  Of the schools playing football in Lakeland, 3 have made a trip to title games within the last 16 years (4 if you count defunct Evangel).

I'm not surprised at all you said that. However I look at Lakeland for example. They've been able to win state championships and their regular season opponents were somewhat weak in the years they won it.  My question is, does playing IMG and losing really benefit Venice anymore than Vero?

Aw Hell!  FLAG ON THE PLAY!!!!  Let's discuss why people tend to think Lakeland's schedule are weak.  Using what you stated as a starting point, I will illustrate that most teams wouldn't make it through unscathed if they played Lakeland's schedule.  I'll even include the 2008 schedule, the year STA exorcised those demons on Lakeland's ass.

  7. Defensive coordinator Kyle Worden will be the interim head coach while Lake Gibson conducts its search.  Hopefully this doesn't tip the scales of balance in the city and hopefully the LG kids stay in place.  However, going into the summer without an HBC is not a good situation for LG to be in.

You do know Central and Booker T. beat St. Thomas and we can throw in Miramar so Dillard has a chance and with all that talent St. Thomas gets they should be undefeated every year.

Central vs St. Thomas 43-27 (2018)

    Booker T. St. Thomas 27-23 (2016)

    Miramar vs St. Thomas (2011-2013)

    Yep!!!

I think that, without any regard for who's coaching where, just looking at the profile of the schools, that would make sense. But, kids are going to go where it's trendy to play, and LHS and LG are that right now. All those ex-Naughts at Kathleen may boost them as well. But, it is conceivable that Jenkins could put a nice package together and land a really good coach that can both attract and develop players. So, that could happen one day. But, I don't think it would happen right away.

I fully expect GJ to provide an attractive coaching incentive to cultivate and grow that program.  Who would pass up the opportunity to play at one of the newer schools in Lakeland with a nice address in a nice neighborhood?  LOL.  Poor Tenoroc out in no man's land.  They don't have a shot in hell, even with all the planned development in the works.

Yeah but, again, trends both culturally and with regard to what rules are/aren't on the books from the mid 2000s-present figure to make multiple Polk champions nearly impossible. The consensus among players and parents everywhere seems to be that it is best to combine forces, where we see a disproportionate amount of talent clustered at a relatively small number of schools. And "school choice" measures now in place mean it is fairly easy for players to do this, with an extended commute to school being the primary or even only impediment to a player wanting to play for a local powerhouse. This all heavily favors schools in large urban areas, most obviously Dade and Broward counties. They've always been formidable, but in this current climate, they've been elevated several notches more. The only way Polk can produce a team that can knock off one of the elites from down there is if a school can end up with a large enough share of the top end talent in the county such that the rest of the schools are down significantly.

It looks like a very interesting battle between Lakeland and Lake Gibson will continue for several more years. LG managed to keep a lot of talent at home in these last couple of classes. They are now held in high regard locally. If/when Castle finally retires, LG will try to become the dominant school in the city. It might be that Lakeland finds a quality enough replacement that we end up with a good battle for players between the two, and it becomes a rivalry like it never really has been before. But, if Lakeland slips with a coach that struggles to attract talent, we could see LG become dominant and Lakeland fall back substantially-see Bradenton Manatee post Kinnan. It's all about what's "hip and trendy" among youth league players and coaches. Never before in sports history have players felt less in the way of loyalty and commitment to schools. Any no-name program can suddenly emerge as a dominant powerhouse, and any legendary program can suddenly fall back into mediocrity or worse.

When Castle retires, Jenkins will become the dominant program in Lakeland/Polk County.  Remember, I said it first!

STA doesn't figure to be off the charts loaded this year. Probably still the favorites, but not any better (or as good most likely) as the 2018 team that was beaten by Lakeland. Of course, I still maintain that 2018 Lakeland was the best team in Polk history, so it's not likely they will be surpassed anytime soon. LG's defensive struggles against the better teams last year must be able to be explained by subpar defensive coordinating, whereby getting Armwood's D-coordinator could make all the difference in the world. If their problems were more due to personnel deficiencies, that doesn't figure to improve a ton.

Basically, if you took the best of LG and the best of Lakeland and made them into one team, you'd have a 7A title favorite. That's about what we had in 2018. But, the talent seems too split between the schools right now for either to beat STA.

I hate that most of the Lakeland area schools are in the same class (except for Victory).  Such is life.  However, when looking at one of Polk's strengths historically, it was the fact that we could raise hell regardless of the classification.  I fear that getting multiple teams to the title game (let alone winning) may be lost to the early/mid 2000's.

Seems like Lake Gibson, at the moment anyway, inherits more talent than anyone else in the city. Lakeland's great run from 2017-2019 involved a bunch of LG transfers. And of course LG kept most of the top kids home for this 2022 class.

Looks like Winter Haven has lost a couple of kids to Lakeland so far this offseason, including their starting QB.

LOL, Winter Haven can't catch a break with Lakeland to the west and Lake Wales to the east.

Perhaps this can be a single thread for us to keep track of transfers. The quality of recruiting done by a H.S. staff and the team's players tends to make all the difference in what kind of team is put on the field.

In Polk County, which I follow closest, it appears there is more talent dispersion than in the recent past. Lake Gibson is at least as loaded as Lakeland, if not more. Bartow has players. Kathleen figures to have a few. And the small private schools in Lakeland-most obviously Victory Christian, whose staff is dominated by Dreadnaught legends- has a lot of good players. Lake Wales and Winter Haven tend to have them. This also likely means none of these teams will be winning a state title. To beat the elite powers from larger metro areas, Polk County teams need to have consolidated talent from other schools, to where there aren't many great players playing at other schools in the county. This happened in 2018 and to a lesser extent 2019 for Lakeland, for example.

It will be very interesting to see how zones in Lakeland are re-adjusted to alleviate overcrowding at GJ or if capacity is added.  Least likely will be renewed plans for another high school in SW Lakeland. It's weird to hear that LG has more talent than Kathleen.  I'd never thought I would hear that statement based solely off the draw pools in the core of the city.  What's really starting to sink in more so now than in years past most is the more dominant programs are playing in 1 of 2 classes which would make it really difficult to send multiple teams to state championship without beating the hell out of one another first.

A review of the recently released 21-22 football classifications raises the following questions:

    1) Mulberry is listed twice. Shows as 3A but also as an Independent

    2) The following schools are not listed. Most would be Independents but Haines City?

    All Saints'

    American Collegiate (Clearwater)

    Clearwater Academy International

    Haines City

    Hillel (North Miami Beach)

    Inlet Grove (Riviera Beach)

    Jordan Christian Prep (Auburndale)

    Joshua Christian (Jacksonville)

    Lighthouse Private Christian Academy (Pensacola)

    Northwest Christian (Miami)

    St. John Lutheran (Ocala)

St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park)

    Surge Academy (Hollywood)

    Tampa Bay Christian

    TRU Prep (Miami Gardens)

    West Oaks Academy (Orlando)

    Young Kids In Motion (Jacksonville)

    Zarephath Academy (Jacksonville)

Haines City has fallen a long way, 2 wins in 3 seasons.  I can see them going independent.  Mulberry could be a clerical error but even if not, they have faired better than HC with half the population.  It's been rough ever since Ridge opened and I imagine it will get worse once a 3rd high school opens in 2021.

from 1963-2020 there was a total of 326 title given out and thats counting the two tie games. So even if only one team won on those occasions, the total would be 324.

Im counting 320 from the top list posted by LAZ.

Am i missing something? Can you post the counties in order by total wins if possible? Im trying to get the number correct. I counted twice on the FHSAA site from 1963 and it has 326 total champs

Co-champions Southridge (Dade) Evans (Orange), Clewiston (Hendry), Jefferson were awarded half a point.  That's where the discrepancy is.

I don’t know. Many on national boards have debated if 2008 STA might be the greatest HS football team ever.

2004 Lakeland was more dominant than 2005. 2006 MNW was more dominant than 2007 MNW. 2008 STA just peaked with most of their stars as seniors and just absolutely dominated everyone. 2005 Lakeland and 2007 MNW had some scares.

You're one year off. 2005 was more dominant than 2006. The 2004 team isn't really in the mix as it lost a kickoff classic to Lake Gibson, when both teams played to win and it was live on TV.

You beat me to it.  2005 was a beast especially defensively.
