Lakeland could stop lakeland and perhaps injuries. Last night only the Ref's stopped Lakeland and the running clock. Lakeland was awfully dominant last night and they were without their starting QB, transfer Chayil Garnett who is a big time passer. (6-2 205 with 2,028 passing yards and 18 TD's to just 4 INT's while at Lake Wales). When Lakeland adds that to their attack (and last night the QB was pretty decent when he did throw.) just imagine!

My question: Can you really call him the starter if he has LITERALLY never started a game for your school and just transferred in from a school he was at for the past three years. I've heard people say "They're even without their starting QB" and to be honest it just sounds ridiculous considering he's never even worn the Lakeland jersey before other than for pictures...

The FHSAA is powerless. Was talking to a buddy who had text messages & Twitter DM’s from a coach to a kid telling him “you need to leave such & such immediately, they don’t put guys D1 like we do.” Reported it & what happened? Absolutely nothing.

The county AD of Polk County was the AD at Lakeland Hs for years so what do y’all think happens when those messages are sent to the county AD for them to be sent to the state and/or to be investigated. It gets put right into the trash. Reason Lakeland is able to have coaches/community guys recruit year in and year out. They know they are covered no matter what. I’ve heard for years coaching ability at Lakeland is average but when you are creating an all star team from one of the most talent rich areas in the state, what do you expect? The team to suck? Come on, let’s be real. They out athlete/out muscle most teams just because of personnel. It’s not changing either. Only getting worse.

    1. You have Lakeland confused with Plant.

This is the dumbest post i've ever read. Please just stop. Lakeland recruits everybody. That's why when they won the state championship, you heard about it for about two days, then nobody in the county said anything else about it, because nobody respected them because they had 13-14 starters that were recruited there from other schools in the area.

  4. This is ridiculous. Texting your players is fine. I've done it for years....i'm not an idiot and/or a weirdo though so I have no desire to send my kids inappropriate material. What it all boils down to is don't be a complete moron and just have a normal relationship with your players....bottom line. Remind is good if you're trying to send a message out to a large group.

Don’t write these FL teams off just yet.

Brentwood Academy plays in a watered down playoff, and was in a dog fight with an average private Texas team two years ago. Barely won 21-14 and was considered national top 50

UMS won state but it was a small school title, and outside the state top 5, Alabama can be pretty pedestrian. Chaminade was in a dog fight because the coaching is lacking. Western has been trending upwards the last few years.

Winter Park has came out of nowhere like Wekiva due to the rise in transfers. If they continues then they could hold their own.

Hoover lost a stud to transfer and isn’t the Hoover of old. Cocoa can surprise them for sure.

I don’t have high expectations, I just hope to God they can all make it competitive

UMS is probably one of the top teams in the state of Alabama regardless of classification. Defensively, they are as sound as they come and they are a tough offense to defend. They're always good at what they do.

Hoover will have the best team they've had in 5 years this coming year. Hoover doesn't lose kids, they only get them. I'd imagine they will win by at least 28. Probably more.

    This might help OldSchool

    1. Sheffield started all last season at previous school, saw an opening at Lakeland's center position this year, or so he thought. End up playing only when the running clocks started. Bad move on his part, but he got a ring out of it.

    2. Rodman, see previous memo. Not sure how much he played at Victory but should have stayed there. Had an INT in a runninng clock game against Bartow's reserves. But he was lights out on KO return team.

    3. DB's Ware/ Nixon played so little at LGibson why stay as seniors? Add to the fact that Lakeland's entire secondary graduated last year, so they also saw possible playing time as seniors for a good team. And they played, with some good coaching. But if anyone's thinks those two are All-Stars, get some professional help.

    4. Martin and his folks were LIED to by LG staff and left the school. I will leave it at that. He fits the All-Star category now, he didn't 4 months ago.

    5. Summerall= All Star

    6. Ski McWilliams has been zoned for Lakeland HS all his life, and yes he was key to winning this year. Without him they go 13-1

    7. Crawford and Hohentaner's family moved to the area 2 years ago as Greg already stated. Crawford played "behind" the leading tackler last year who graduated. He got his opportunity to play this year and did well. Lakeland has a soph LB behind him who is even better.

Bottom line there are some people on this site who intentionally put out innuendos and misleading info.

Yes, and you're one of them. You even left out a handful of the transfers off your list. People like you is why nobody even respects the programs who receive all of the transfers. You try to make a case for every single kid because you know in the back of your heart that it's just wrong. It's wrong primarily because of the way it is happening. Coaches from said schools are calling kids, are calling parents/grandparents. Ask anybody from around the Lakeland area and it's always "oh yea, they're trying to call us to get us to transfer"

Football is a dying sport, and this is doing nothing but fast forwarding how long it'll be around in the same capacity that it currently is. It's one of the main reason I got out of coaching years ago and moved up north. And no, it is not like this at other places. It is primarily happening in the state of Florida because just like everything else, this state does everything backwards.

I'm all for good conversation, but please don't try and make an excuse for the wrongdoing of coaches. I'm happy for them that they won, but you know good and well that those kids don't appreciate the title as much as they would if they had stayed at their home school and competed for a championship there. Every one of those guys that you listed were starters or were going to be starters at their previous school and they moved because it's the "IN" thing to do. Give me a break @LakelandGator

Everybody in the Lakeland area knows that the ONLY reason they won is because of the transfers. Without those transfers they're an 8-2 team with maybe a round or two in the playoffs.

It's not just Lakeland though, it's a ton of other schools too. I guess it's just the way it is now though. It's sad.

  7. I've said it before and I will say it again...football in Florida isn't as important to people as they say it is. It's almost comical. There may be one or two games with a decent crowd. Championship games need to go back to a smaller stadium that is more agreeable to both coaches from each team. I know that may be difficult for people who would like to see a game who don't have a dog in a fight (e.g. Media), but it would be much more beneficial to people of a community who may not be able to travel a great distance for a game. Many states do it the right way...Florida...does not...which is par for the course for the state of Florida.

And that rumor hasn't been proven by any media outlet

Considering the timetable I'm wondering if that rumor was started by their opponent in a attempt to get Lakeland out of way,  after all STA was the team who went and snitched on Lakeland when they weren't good enough to beat them 3 straight years

Well the rumor came from Lakeland HS. I've got some people in Lakeland and they confirmed it. Apparently something about breaking into cars at school.

    QB playing for L?

I'm assuming you heard about him getting in trouble with the law yesterday? I don't see how he could play with that coming about. I'm also assuming Lakeland is trying to keep it quiet. Had a good friend of mine text me about it yesterday.

Most elite team ? Sure all around best team from coach’s all the way down ? I’ll give that to IMG & how I feel it’s all about matchups and who match up with who better personally I think a team like wekivia and etc would give carol city problems on any given night.

notice every team u mentioned other then AHP was a dade team all those teams beat up on each other every year they know each other their rivals so with that it’s like tomato tomoto

I'm just going to say it. Carol City would beat Wekiva by 4 touchdowns. They are THAT good. I don't know if there is a better team in the country than them. Their team speed is off the charts. When you watch them play, it's mesmerizing.

    Any Sebring players suspended?

I haven’t heard there were any. Apparently there was an altercation between a player from Kathleen and a coach from sebring that may have started it. I’m not sure how a brawl can break out and only people from one team are the ones who get punished. Hopefully it will be dealt with by FHSAA.

  13. Really sad to see and hear. Really wish the games were kept under control better and the kids and coaches had enough sense just let things go. I coached for a long time and never had an issue like this. I understand you get heated, but for a game to end in a brawl is just unacceptable. Someone needs to be made an example of. If not, then expect these things to continue to happen. 15-17 year old kids getting into a fight in an organized HS sporting event is just embarassing for the school and the sport.

Just curious how many fights does this make in the past few years for Kathleen? I could’ve wrong but wasn’t there an issues last year or the year before? Discipline issues could get a HC and his staff fired but the way these kids think currently thanks to technology I think we will see more and more of incidents like this unless schools start stepping up!!!

If i'm not mistaken, this is a new staff at Kathleen. I don't believe its the same head coach that they have had for years.

  15. Has anyone heard anything about this bench clearing brawl that took place this past Friday?? Apparently there was a coach from one team who even threw a punch. I wasn't there so I am not sure how true that is, but I have heard there is such footage. The game was called in the final minute of the game due to the fight that broke out. What will happen to both teams if there is a bench clearing brawl with everyone basically ending up fighting on the field. I've never heard of something of that nature at the high school level. What will the FHSAA do? There has to be multiple suspensions from both teams...perhaps even cancellation of games! What do yall think? I'm over in Daytona area so I don't hear ALOT of word of mouth, just a little here and there.
