I have no connections or interaction to any of the players in the playoffs so I'm looking for a good game to watch. Sorry to disappoint you dad.
I am not old enough to be your dad, but if I was, rest assured, you would be developing a much better attitude than what you have displayed on the message board. I will forgive you for now, but you need to be more careful in the future.

I've been very disinterested in the playoffs with 25 classes of trash football but I can't miss this one.
GO KOWBOYS
No matter how many classes of football that there are, we are still talking about High School Football. If anything, it should be interesting for the young men (and women) who are the players. I expected a lot more out of you badbird, and I am very disappointed.

Yeah that game was crazy. That whole final 4 minutes was crazy.
Don't know if you know the story, but we had a defensive player die in a car accident the year before and the team dedicated the season and the championship to him. The theme and foundation for him was called "Be the Light". Well as a religious school, it didn't take much for the boys to believe that their boy Ari #30, was sending them a message from above. When the lights went back on, Columbus stormed back on with a very improbable finish.
Great part of Explorer lore at this point.
In any case, the Drive Pnk Stadium where Inter Miami FC plays now has a nice set up and don't expect any technical issues. Owners of the Miami FC who commissioned the rebuild of the stadium are also Columbus Alumni and huge benefactors. They better get it right! LOL.
I didn't know the story, but I remember the game very well.

So sorry Dan, I let politics creep in as I was only counting the red counties and forgetting about the blue ones
. So you are correct in pointing out there are 67 counties in FL..........my bad!! But that makes it more special as 43 are not represented.
You are forgiven this time, but don't let it happen again Ray. I am also going to forgive you for not answering my questions this time. Rest assured though, next time that I ask you a question regarding officiating, or anything else, I will not only expect an answer, I will demand one! Do you understand, and have I made myself clear?

If the Darters beat PBC, I will be in Fort Lauderdale for the final. Columbus will rightly be the favorite, but maybe Apopka can give you a good game.
Hey Darter, if the football gods align, we may yet see another classic Blue Darter/Explorer state match. Best of luck against PBC next week, and hope to see you the week after if you make the trip down south.
Hopefully, the scoreboard won't malfunction in the fourth quarter if Columbus plays Apopka like the last time in 2019 in Daytona Beach.

I have a long way to go for that Dan. As a senior citizen, I expect you to be more "mature", set an example for the young whippersnappers, and not use foul language.

I tried to post a "Heads up" on the site, but was unable to log back on after the original post. Section 104 is the Wild, Wild West ! It was a very entertaining game with Northwesten giving Central all they could handle and more. Think they jumped out to a first quarter 21-0 lead. It was sloppy most of the time and the red flags were flying all over the place to the tune of a couple hundred yards. Central didn't look like a Top 3 team in the country last night, but hats off to Miami Northwestern for bringing it. Both teams can play and beat anybody when at their best.
Red flags? I didn't know that there were replay challenges in Florida High School Football.

Thank you, Jambun.
But "clearly a touchdown?" We must have seen different clips.
The football was in player possession in the opponent's end zone. That is a touchdown. I believe that Clarence Darrow, F. Lee Bailey, and Perry Mason would agree.

Darter, I agree with you (and said as much when I first posted about this game). But, if that was the case, why didn't the line judge come in with an immediate and emphatic hands-in-the-air TD signal? That's what I was hoping Jambun could answer.
It's almost as if the following thoughts went through the official's head in the matter of two or three seconds as he was coming towards the middle of the field: "Hmmm, it kind of looks like maybe the ball broke the plane but I'm not really sure. I guess I'll wait to see if he guy with the ball lands in the end zone, because then it'll be an easy call . . . oh, wait, dang it, he just got pushed back and the ball's not in the end zone. Crap, what do I do now? Hmmm, which team is the home team here? Yeah, right, the team on offense. If they score, they win; if they don't, they lose. Dang it, I want to do what's right, but I'm not sure if he crossed the plane or not. But, what I really want is to make sure I get out of here safely tonight and make it home in time to watch SportsCenter . . . "
Hands go up in the air to signal the try is successful. Game over.
Perspective, the mechanic used by the line judge on that play was the absolutely the correct one. Speed and making an immediate decision and signal are not important or imperative when an official has a critical call to make such as that play. It is more important or imperative that the official has the right outcome, which in that case was clearly a touchdown.

What a great game.
I saw an endzone video of the 2-point conversion in OT that gave Oviedo the win. I don't think it could have been any closer. When I first saw it, it looked like the RB came up inches short. But then I saw a slow-mo version where it appeared the RB may have just broken the plane before landing short of the goal. Without a goal line camera/view, it's hard to tell. It's really important to have the right perspective.
Too bad someone had to lose that game. But, it brings me to my question (I eventually get there):
@Jambun82, when I watched the video, there was an official (line judge?) right on the goal line. The play came towards him and did NOT involve a big pile up. It was basically the RB against a LB or DB, with a second defender coming in to help. From the video I saw, there was nothing in the way of the official that obscured his line of sight. In other words, he appeared to be in perfect position and had a clear sight line as to whether the ball broke the plane or not. As I believe he's supposed to, he immediately closed the gap and ran in to where the play ended. But instead of giving an immediate signal (either raising his hands to signify a TD or waiving his hands over his head and putting his foot down to signify that the offensive player was stopped short of the goal line), he basically stood there for what seemed like an eternity before he finally signaled a score. Why? Under the circumstances that I laid out, what would cause the line judge to wait so long before signaling? Who or what would or could he be waiting on? I'll keep the conspiracy theories to myself for now.
Thanks in advance.
Perspective, I really wouldn't be able to answer that without seeing the play myself. Thank you.

Happy Coach Beek took me up on my offer and both he and his son joined us for the game last night. Thanks Coach for the company and sharing some insights on your Poinciana team. Not one of our better outings but a win nonetheless and some crazy officiating throughout especially for a playoff game. Please JamBun, don't ask for details.
Why not? Are you scared of my questions?

"OUR" is a figure of speech encompassing our school and its constituents. If any teaching needs to occur is your mastery of the English language rather than try to DIVERT from the issue at hand which is your modus operandi. Actually was in those stands last night watching our terrific girls volleyball team deliver a 3 game sweep for the Regional Championship vs Dr. Phillips while you fiddled for a response.
Any taxpayer in Osceola can claim some "ownership" of public property in that county. I should start charging you for the lessons that I have taught you on this message board, but I am too nice a man. The privilege is all yours. You're welcome once again Ray. By the way, the Kowboys always have a great spread of food at halftime even if that has be shared with the booster club.

I think I know who you are talking about with the man refusing to use email. If you are not getting some of the answers or solutions that you are looking for, your school should consider your options. Geographically, you have an advantage in that aspect.

Many years ago I remember us struggling with poor officiating and just like you tried the proper channels to no avail. We eventually had to resort to the other side of the coin that Jambun implied a threat with and that is making a decision which were the absolute worse refs and scratching them so they couldn't step foot in OUR GYM. That at least mitigated having to deal with that handful of individuals you knew were the most problematic.
Since Kissimmee Osceola is a public school, it is not YOUR GYM, the gym belongs to the taxpayers. I never get tired of teaching you lessons Ray, this time in Civics. You're welcome as usual.

How are you approaching the leadership of your Officials Association?

Jambun,
So, what is your suggestion? How should a coach like Beek address what he perceives to be obvious officiating errors? Who should he contact? It sounds like when he brings the matter to the officiating organization, they blow him off (and basically tell him his team isn't good enough to deserve good officials or even a full squad). But when he puts the plays out there for public consumption, in what appears to be a fairly respectful way, he's being told by the one official on the board that this is "counterproductive."
So, I'm asking you, how would you suggest a disgruntled coach deal with this situation -- especially one that appears to repeat itself game after game?
My suggestion to Beek is to request a face-to-face meeting with the assigner and supervisor of the Officials Association that his school uses. If he is "blown off" as he claims, by the way the ghosts of Clarence Darrow and F. Lee Bailey know that "blown off" is a fairly loose term and everyone has a different interpretation of what that would mean, he should get together with his Athletic Director and consider their options regarding officials for their home games. Possibly contacting another Officials Association when the current contract expires.

I deleted the prior posts as to be non-offensive to officials.
All I am trying to do is put it out there that because we are who we are we get sub-par officiating more often than not. Do I expect an official to see this and say, wow we could do better. Absolutely not! What is frustrating as a coach is the lack of respect for a program shown by the officials association. But if I say nothing then I am part of the problem. I have contacted the officials association. I have filled out reviews of officiating. Still nothing happens. I was told directly by the officials that my game doesn't matter therefore 4 officials is all we get because they are short and other games are more important.

I guess i could just shut up, sit back and be compliant.
I am telling you, not suggesting, telling you that the proper way to handle any issues or problems that you have with officiating for your home football games is to contact your Officials Association's supervisor and assigner with the video of the plays that you want explanations on. Posting on a public message board, where nobody has any idea who is reading and interpreting, what you have to say, especially when you have publicly identified which school that you coach at. Officials have the right to block schools and teams, and the very best officials just may use this option if they know that a coach will publicly call them out in this way. Beek, I suggest that you request to have a nice, long, conversation with the supervisor and assigner of your Officials Association when your season ends. You can iron out some of these issues and problems at that point hopefully.

@Jambun82 I believe this is legal now and you don't have to be under center to spike the ball
That is correct badbird. The immediate throwing of the football to the ground to conserve time by the player directly positioned behind the snapper that has neither been muffed nor touched the ground previously is a legal exception.

Exciting, Yes...Stressful, Yes!.. Was a game for the ages. My hat is off to LBV they game planned very well for us. They came out in something we had never seen and proceeded to kick our butts on defense all night. This was a back and forth game for the first few scores. by half it was 27-14 poinciana. In the 3rd 1/4 it was 41-14 poinciana. They they scored and proceeded to onside kicking which for reasons we could not cover. A lot of the reasons were on us, but this was probably one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. There were 4 refs and a home school clock operator. With 40 seconds to go LBV scored the touchdown to tie the game 41-41. Our players stepped up and blocked what would have been the game winning extra point. We got the ball back with 35 seconds. Drove down the field only to throw an interception with 8 seconds left. So we go to overtime. We scored first and made a 2 point conversion. They scored on 4th down bur were stopped 1 foot short on their 2 point conversion!
In previous years PHS would have folded with this type of comeback, These kids stepped up when it was most critical and made the plays that they had to.
Edited: Having watched the game film. The missed penalties, granted I was only looking at my side of the game. Were awful. Holding, targeting on a turnover. missed PI. Shotgun snap with a spike (intentional grounding, not called) Almost unbearable to watch. The back judge is watching the linebackers and his back is turned to what is happening in the secondary. No one even watching the receivers. This is an officiating travesty. In my opinion game should not have been played without a full field crew. But even adjustments to the officials positioning should have been made. We were running the play clock on 1 play. No official was keeping track. We burned 40 or more seconds off. the one official looked like he was about to throw a flag, without a countdown. We ran the play ...But still.
I truly wish there was a place for coaches to share films with officiating associations. Not for anything except training officials to see what they missed and might have been watching to make them better officials.
Coaches can share films with Officials Associations. This has happened for many years, and there is no reason that you cannot share your films with the Officials Association which your school uses for home games.

That is not a double foul, that would be considered multiple dead-bowl fouls. A double foul is a live-ball foul on each time during a down.
