If the rules allow for transfers then everyone could be adding transfers. Everyone could be creating "superteams." But in order to get a transfer to come you need to have something to offer. A winning program, a winning coach, and a chance to compete for a title. Lakeland has all 3 boxes checked.

Ultimately if the student's parents decide to transfer their kid, who am I to decide what is in the best interest of that kid?

Lakeland's success is not recent, a overall winning program since 1979. That said as a Lakeland fan I cannot control who transfers to LHS or why. Nor can I make the schedule for the program.

Not sure many fan bases wouldn't take Lakeland's 1979-2019 success and be happy to have it.

Lakeland has always put great teams on the field; they didn't need to push the transfer system, but they did. It hurt neighboring schools by "stealing" their homegrown talent. And no, not every school can use the transfer system. You can only transfer to a school that has available capacity. If a school is at capacity, they can only accept students that "actually" live within their school zone. In Orange County, that opened up prospecting for Edgewater and Jones, schools that had capacity. Also, students are not supposed to transfer for athletic purposes. I wish someone would explain why a student would transfer from Winter Park, the only "A" rated public school in Orange County to Jones, the lowest rated HS in Orange unless it was for athletic purposes, especially if the student's family still resides in Winter Park. There are similar instances with Edgewater.

With all of the good teams in the Orlando area today just down I-4, it's a shame we could not see a matchup of them versus Lakeland instead of Hialeah and Cooper City.

A Lakeland - Edgewater game, or Lakeland - Jones, or Lakeland - Seminole (Sanford) game would be very interesting and probably competitive. Seminole's players are almost all home grown, but they always put a very good team on the field. Edgewater and Jones have gone the Lakeland route.

Why would a team who averages 85,000 per home game schedule a home and home with a team who averages half that?

UCF hasn’t earned home and homes with tradition football powers. They aren’t even in a power conference.

All this false bravado from beating scrubs is hilarious.

Vanderbilt Stadium holds 40,550 fans; they have never been a traditional football power; and, are only in a Power 5 conference because of longevity. Yet, UF plays them every year.

Per your statement, "All this false bravado from beating scrubs is hilarious", which team had to play a Division II team recently to become bowl eligible? I believe you know the answer. Hint: rhymes with nolebull.

RE: UCF needing to schedule harder

It all falls on the UCF AD who is .... well, let's just say he's different than his peers.

UF made a very generous offer for a series, but UCF's AD declined because it was a 2-for-1 deal. (UCF's counter-proposals of a home-and-home or a home-home-neutral caused UF to essentially laugh at UCF for the proposal.)

UF turned around and made a 2-for-1 deal with USF, which caused UCF's AD to slam USF.

UCF and USF have different needs and clearly different status when it comes to their quality of play. UCF cannot afford to reduce their number of home games because of the revenue they generate from selling out their stadium for home games. USF plays in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa; they receive none of the revenue from the game and that includes concession and parking revenue. UF fans at Raymond James would outnumber USF fans, thereby negating USF homefireld advantage. At UCF, UF would get some seats in NE corner of endzone. UF also has option to buy out USF home game, so if USF by some miracle becomes competitive, UF can buy out. Danny White's counter-proposal of home-home-neutral as a fair and balanced offer, something UF didn't want, may have laughed at, but would never accept. If UF is that superior, why not put UCF in their place by beating them on the field? UF would rather play the UT-Martins of the world.

Are you implying that there is more than one championship game?

I'm saying there was no national championship game; there was a Power 5 Invitational Game. You can't claim a National Championship unless you're willing to play everyone on even terms. Your top Power 5 teams do not want to play UCF on even terms; they claim to want 2 for 1 and their officials at all 3 games. You don't stack the deck if you're so sure that your the best. Still, none of the top Power 5 teams have approached UCF for a game.

Did UCF play in a national championship game?

Did they win the national championship trophy?

If you answered yes to either question then you suffer from a severe mental delusion caused by playing slap dicks from the 6th best conference

There is no National Championship Game; there is a Power 5 Invitational that excludes Group of 5 teams.

There is no legitimate national championship trophy.

    NCAA recognizes UCF National Championship.

As a canes fan I think UCF should join another conference or schedule more power top 5 teams on there schedule.. IDK how much they can schedule a year with their conference schedule but if it’s 4 open space shoot play a team from each power 5 conference. 2 away and 2 home and that probably can get them over the hump to the playoffs... Start with scheduling Miami or FSU in the ACC and UF in the SEC .. yall did schedule Stanford which was a good win and somebody in the big 12...

The so-called top Power 5 teams don't want to schedule UCF and if they do, they want a 2 for 1 home advantage with an option to buy out the UCF home game. That's ridiculous considering UCF is ranked higher than the majority of Power 5 teams. UCF has 4 out of conference games they can schedule each year. Of the 4, they try to schedule 2 Power 5 teams. When they scheduled Stanford (5 years ago), Stanford was coming off a double digit win season. Pitt was also in the top half of the ACC when this week's game was scheduled. As UCF receives significantly less TV money than the Power 5 teams receive, UCF must maximize home games where they usually sell the stadium out; therefor 2 for 1 doesn't work. Just this week on College Football Live, Todd McShay, who hates UCF, said "why would Stanford play UCF in Orlando, that's crazy". Crazy, but true. The top Power 5 teams don't want to play UCF in Orlando. The Power 5 Cartel wants no part of UCF in the CFP and now that we have another freshman QB phenom, the discrimination against UCF will become even more obvious.

    HornetFan, what authority

HornetFan, what authority do you have to declare that whether a call is made is not at the discretion of the officials? What do you think that the officials role is during a High School Football game? A block in the back is a Player Safety foul, no matter where it occurs. Of course, a block in the back is a block with clear initial hands or arms below the shoulders, and above the waist of an opponent. Many times what coaches and fans believe is a block in the back, is not in fact so unless this is clear to the official. Also, a block in the back could be considered a Personal Foul is the action is well away for the play on the field.

As a long time football fan and season ticket holder to several pro and college football teams during my life, I have always believed that officials should establish early what will and will not be tolerated and then let the players play provided they don't get out of hand. A block in the back can be as little as a slight push or as bad as wiping a player out from behind; I don't believe a slight push should be called. It's like pass interference; too often officials determine who wins a game by not allowing any contact by CB's. It's football, not soccer.

Healthy Franks or not, I don't think the Gators are beating Auburn, LSU, or Georgia. I think the rest of the schedule looks manageable based on how Trask looked. I think a 9-3 record is reasonable. If the Gators can keep the game against the above 3 close and not be blown out (but still lose), I think I could accept that. A random loss to FSU or Missouri won't be the end of the world.

I am also a person who enters the season with the idea that that Gators should only be 8-4 and if they don't meet that then I get upset otherwise I am fine.

A loss to the Willie Noles this year would be a disaster. I wouldn't sell Trask short. He's been around 4 years and as long as Mullens doesn't put too much on him, he should be steady enough to lead the Gators. The rest of the team will probably step up their efforts and we may be pleasantly surprised.

Whether UCF is top billing material or not, their QB Dillon Gabriel is one hell of player. He shredded the Stanford defense with both his passing and ground play action. And this guy is only a Freshman. Holy Cow. Just feel that UCF and Gabriel would give UF, Miami, or FSU fits if they played them.

Rather than fits; it would be an old fashioned ass kicking with the establishment teams trying to catch their breath.

Just what is a "nolebull"? Please don't say it's a fan of the FSU Noles and USF Bulls. If so, I now realize why you're so pissed about UCF.

Since Franks went down for the season on Saturday how do you think the Gators will do the rest of the season? Frank's replacement Trask looked pretty good and actually pulled out the game for Florida. Do you think Trask will be the starting QB here on in and are any of the other QB's on the roster as good? Myself, I never thought that Franks was that good of a QB and felt that the Gators could have done a lot better with someone else.

I think the Gators are fortunate they have Mullen as their Head Coach; the man is an excellent QB coach. I was never a big Franks fan, but I never want to see a kid seriously injured. I believe Trask will be successful because Mullen will limit the risks he is willing to take. In my opinion, other than Trask, their QB options are weak, not so much on talent, but on experience..

Too bad I don't have a video clip of this.  Here's what happened - Two defenders rushing the kick get to the punter; the first defender blocks the punt as the second defender hits the kicker after the punt is blocked.  The punter never fully extended his leg. The ball bounces off the ground and then the first defender catches it in the end-zone for what appears to be a touchdown.  The officials throw a flag for roughing the kicker.  Having seen a lot of blocked punts before, I've never seen a roughing the kicker call on a block.

I think the call was incorrect. If the punt was blocked, it should not have been roughing the kicker. Are you sure the officials didn't call a personal foul on the 2nd rusher for hitting a defenseless player?

Im a first year official doing jv and freshman games. This is not true. They tell us during our trainings not to call things that are on opposite side of the field, unless its unsportsmanlike, a saftey issue, or the played has been warned multiple times.

Where are you officiating? My youngest grandson plays on Winter Park's freshmen team. I like the philosophy they are teaching you. Good luck with officiating.

  14. 15 hours ago, Jambun82 said:

HornetFan, that is not entirely accurate. Player Safety fouls are always penalties wherever that occur on the field of play, end zone, or sideline. However, many judgment call type of fouls such as holding, OPI, or DPI, are not usually called unless these fouls have a direct effect on the play. Most Head Coaches agree with this reasoning, and it behooves most Officials to try to limit fouls to the absolute necessary with the obvious exception of player safety fouls.

Whether the call is made or not is always at the discretion of the officials; sometimes that decision smells of home town cooking. I have seen too many great plays called back for penalties that occur away from the ball; most of the time they are holding calls or blocks in the back. I agree player safety fouls should always be called.

Because they didn’t deserve it.  They lost to LSU in a bowl game when half LSU’s team had quit and entered the draft.

Oh wait you told me to not respond.

UCF was without McKenzie Milton for the LSU game, but the team still performed well, just not well enough to win the game.

  16. 3 hours ago, badbird said:

they did not beat Auburn before it was selected.  No reason to select UCF that year. If they had beaten Auburn in a regular season game they probably would have been selected.  Play a harder schedule.  Take your 2 for 1's.  Or complain about it until you get a trophy.  That's the new generation.

"they did not beat Auburn before it was selected."  That statement apparently shows that the selection committee for the Power 5 Invitational didn't do their homework. It was easier to disqualify a Group of 5 team than to have the courage to put them in the Invitational.

"If they had beaten Auburn in a regular season game they probably would have been selected."  If your statement was true, why wasn't UCF given an invitation the next year after completing another undefeated season? No need for your to respond, the answer is obvious.

"Take your 2 for 1's".  UCF doesn't play 2 for 1's; it implies inferiority. Maybe you should suggest teams like FSU and Tennessee play 1 for 2's with Group of 5 teams. Some of the Power 5 could also try that with FCS schools that have taken them to the woodshed this season.

Have you noticed the trend this year where each week the so-called Power 5 teams lose to lowly Group of 5 teams?

The play in question is the first play in this highlight collection. It is replayed from a better, wider angle at 00:51 through the conclusion. Best I can tell, they call it on the WR #10. What are your thoughts?

    http://www.hudl.com/v/2BjAPe

A penalty is a penalty, even when it has no effect on the actual play. How often do we see penalties called on the opposite side of the field, away from the play? It's a teaching moment for the coach to avoid having it happen again, but kids are kids and it will happen again.

  18. 13 hours ago, badbird said:

Almost as ridiculous as UCF fans thinking they won a National title.  If they blow everyone out they will get a chance this year.

They were the only undefeated team in the nation that year and they beat the only team (Auburn) to beat both participants in the Power 5 Invitational. As far as UCF fans are concerned, the Power 5 Invitational was the Consolation Game that year. The Power 5 Cartel will find a reason not to include UCF in the CFP this year; that's a sure bet.

I hear ya.  There are extenuating circumstances with some of these transfers..likely even some that look and smell fishy.  I guess the challenge is to how to define the "fishiness threshold" for a team.  Just because a team gets a couple good transfers and wins a state title doesn't automatically mean they are cheating...at least not in today's world.

You can't be a little pregnant; if you're recruiting, you're cheating.

One of our SFL experts on the board said Pace was "loaded" earlier in the season, so I trust their problem is one of execution, not talent.

    American Heritage 49-10 loss;

    Clewiston 36-0 win;

Naples 38-26 loss, trailed 38-14 after 3 quarters; and

    Treasure Coast 37-6 loss.

Treasure Coast blowing out Monsignor Pace got my attention.  Have not seen MP play, but they are supposed to have a lot of talent.

According to MaxPreps, MP is 1-3 and has been blown out several times. That doesn't sound like a lot of talent.

They use to not have national championships so you had to claim fake ones.  It’s all good.  I’m claiming my fake pick em contest winner championship. Don’t hate

They still don't have a National Championship game; it's a Power 5 Invitational. This is almost as ridiculous as when professional baseball wouldn't allow black players to play in the "major leagues". They still claimed the title of "World Champions". You can't be a national champion if you exclude half the teams that play your sport.

  23. If it looks like it, and it smells like it, doesn't mean you have to taste it to prove it's a turd. You can call it transfers, seeking opportunities, recruiting, etc, it isn't good for high school football if these teams are allowed to compete for state championships against schools that grow their own talent only to have it stolen away. The FHSAA isn't being a responsible organization with the best interests of high school athletics as a priority. It's kind of like the BS we hear all the time from NCAA with Power 5 and Group of 5 discrimination. Has anyone noticed how many Group of 5 teams have beaten the so-called superior teams of the Power 5 this year?
