Mainland is not that bad of a team. I could see them winning 1 or 2 games in the playoffs.

This is the right attitude... Goning to say the same for both my teams even though one of them has a tougher road to state than the other.

So many coaches complained about the old system saying that some of the best teams didn't get and some of the worse teams did. They went to a who has the best record and toughest schedule now. Just win a lot of your games even some of the close ones and everything will be fine. Shouldn't matter where you are seeded unless you can't beat one of the better teams. If you can't beat one of the better teams then does it really matter unless you just in it for the gate.

Actually I root for all Bevard teams. BUT... I went to Cocoa for 2 years, and Graduated from Rockledge when the schools split in 1971. I lived in Rockledge and was zoned for Rockledge High. My son played football for Cocoa so there is that. I do root for both teams and when they play each other, I can not lose because one of my teams will win... lol. I've been invited to coach the Dive team at Cocoa next year as part of the swim team since they didn't have a coach this year and I dove for Cocoa way back when. Also I mentor for the robotics team at Cocoa this year, though I admit I haven't really done much so far. Have 3 letters from Cocoa and 2 from Rockledge.

I had to pick the Rock. It's where I graduated from. You don't pick against your school. Cost me 2 picks so far.

You may end up facing that you are a dying breed like some of the old timers.

Don't forget IMG. They are a SFA, St. Joe's, type team, but they in Fl.

Pretty sure you can not end a game on a penalty. Also, I think the clock stops when the flag is tossed. If the flag is tossed before time expires then I'm fairly certain time is put back on the clock to the point of the flag. The ref that tosses the flag should also note the time on the clock. The white hat is watching the play clock not the game clock, so if the white hat tossed the flag then it's up to the game time clock manager to notice the time. If it's a running clock then I believe the game is over.

I would like to add to this great post. If it is so important to your school to win state every year, why not hire the best coach you can. I'm not talking about the coach that encourages transfers but the one that builds teams from inside the program. Win it with what you teach.

Cocoa has played 3 of the 5 mentioned in rivalry or playoffs in last 10 years.

IMG for sure lol, but IMG would take state if they played. without looking them up I'm guessing... Rockledge - South Florida to tough in the last decade for the Rock. After Lusk left and Younger took over it's a different team. Jones - Couldn't get past Cocoa. Bonus??? Escambia - Don't ever remember them getting to the finals so it's a guess. Naples - I'm guessing Maybe Naples... Has it been that long since they played Cocoa in 2A and took Odom Coached Cocoa out before the Wilks era? Gully Prep - Never have, but this could be the semi's for them if they get lucky. Probably not though.
