  2. Honestly, I look at the 7A classification and I am excited for every round of playoffs. Sure, some teams are probably a little overmatched, and might not be able to sustain that level of success for another 5 years, but who cares, if they struggle, they will move down and a rising team will take their place.

I look at 6A and I don't see a clear favorite at all, which is what you want. You want teams believing that anybody can win, it encourages people to be participatory, because there is a belief that they might be the next champion versus knowing that they have to play the traditional powerhouse who always wins.

  3. So I will continue to beat the drum for promotion and relegation, simply as a way to increase participation in the sport. Nobody (good teams or bad) want to play teams that they are overmatched with. My belief is that a promotion and relegation system allows recently good teams to play other recently good teams in the regular season and recently bad teams to play recently bad teams. Thus encouraging competitive games, rather than blowouts.

No, it doesn't solve the transfer issue, but unless the state legislature changes, that issue isn't going to stop. Additionally, I think the expectation of being able to transfer for any reason has made it's way to the college level (transfer portal), so high schools on some level are just mirroring that (for better or worse). Sadly, I don't think we are ever going back to the days of transfers sitting out for a year.

Do I think it will make the transfer issue worse? It might, but as a coach, I would be more frustrated losing a player to a school in my classification than losing that player to a "better" school where I will most likely never play that player again. I just think the sting will hurt less (not that it won't exist).

    So my basic premise:
1A stays as is, mostly because it has proven highly success for those schools.
If you have not had a football program since 2018, you start at the lowest level (no matter the size of your school).
This leaves 449 schools to play in my 6 classifications. Classification 2A and 3A will NOT play to a state championship, but only to a Northern/Southern championship, so that nobody accuses them of winning a state championship equal to that of the top classifications.
7A - 32 Schools (All teams make playoffs, required to play 7 other 7A schools)
6A - 32 Schools (All teams make playoffs, required to play 7 other 6A schools)
5A - 64 Schools (8 districts, 8 teams per district, top 4 district records make playoffs (similar to Georgia)
4A - 64 Schools (8 districts, 8 teams per district, top 4 district records make playoffs (similar to Georgia)
3A - 128 Schools (16 districts, 8 teams per district, top 2 district records make playoffs (similar to old system)
2A - 129 Schools (16 districts, 8 teams per district, top 2 district records make playoffs (similar to old system)
    1A - Same as Previous

Classifications are based on the average 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022 MaxPreps ratings (I did not use 2020 due to pandemic weirdness)

    From the FHSAA website
"Looking to hire a football coach ready to work in a Christian school building up young men for the gory of God"

I know I make mistakes, but in my professional life, I really double and triple check before sending something out to the public.

That’s cowardice and I wouldn’t want a coach with that kind of chest leading young men who look to them as strong male leaders.

Different time, but there used to be a point when recruiting/transfers for high school athletics was considered dirty and underhanded. OTC was doing that. In order to not make OTC's job easier to recruit them, you don't play them and make them travel an hour and half away.

Look, I get your thinking. The football coach at my high school believed that the homecoming game should be the best home game on the schedule (no cupcakes). He believed you give the alumni the best show you can, because they probably are only coming to this one game. He wasn't afraid of local state caliber teams.

At the same time, I get the Marion County coaches thinking. If you are going to blatantly disrespect my program by recruiting my players (after you see them at our game), why would I want to make your life easier? Yeah, it is petty, but also a way of protecting my program. I don't think this factors in as much as it used to (the bigger factor is level of competition that Marion County offers or doesn't offer)

Seeing what Bishop Gorman did to Chaminade Madonna is all I needed to see so them playing Central is pointless. Now Central and St. Thomas is a match I'd like to see. If I'm not mistaken they've played before but once in 2018. Central won 43-27 at St. Thomas

I am always confused on why more of the south Florida powers don't play each other, specifically St. Thomas Aquinas. Why don't they play Central, Northwestern, Carol City, American Heritage (Plantation), Columbus, Cardinal Gibbons more often or regularly?
Don't get me wrong, they bring in or travel to some top teams, but I would think, they could do that locally as well.

Is it STA that is ducking Miami Central or vice versa?

Thanks for sharing the attendance figures that are a little eye opening particularly since the numbers for most years are disappointing compared to 2007.  Also interesting that this years totals were the most since then (15 years ago).  Folks can draw their own conclusions of why this year was the best in your sample.

The average attendance was lower than 2008 (we had 9 games this year compared to previous years of 8), but yes, better attendance. It helps when hometown teams are in the finals (FSU High in Tallahassee, STA, American Heritage-Plantation, Miami Central for Ft. Lauderdale).

A little surprised that Venice and Lakeland didn't draw better than Mainland/Lake Wales considering both were in the early slot and that Venice/Lakeland was on Saturday.

And that is a truly bad reflection on the schools in the North and Panhandle area that Columbia advanced out of that region.

Columbia is a poorly coached team. It was shocking and embarrassing what Lake Wales did to them. The Highlanders are good, but that good? I guess we will see more in 2 weeks.

Columbia OL/DL had a size advantage but looked slow and out of shape. How can a team lack conditioning in December?

The group of us that scouted that game could not believe our eyes. We expected a close down to the wire contest. The other game in Polk was closer than expected and the game we should have attended.

I don't know it is a bad reflection on the Panhandle/North, but there aren't that many good teams North of Orlando this year in any classification. Buchholz, Columbia, Bradford, FSU High, Bolles are the only schools North of Ocala that made the Final Four (not counting Rural Classification) and only FSU remains.

I just don't think this was the North's year. As for the OL, I don't think CHS has a good OL since Laremy Tunsil over 10 years ago. This year was no different. I would love to hear what @DisabledAccounthas to say about this.

Columbia deserved to be the favorite based on SOS alone. Lake Wales dominated them, but I thought that Columbia would win because of how well they played after their loss to TCA. They built a lot of momentum that was blown in one night. Lake Wales deserved to win last night, and I think they will crush Mainland in the finals to take home the 3S trophy. The final score shocked me a little, though!

I will state this year's Columbia team (even in last year's classification/bracket) probably still is a final four team. Having said that, this team wasn't complete or consistent. They depended entirely too much on their defense to make scoring opportunities rather than their offense to be able to march down the field methodically. All 3 of their playoff wins were relatively low scoring games by the offense, even in the regular season Columbia's district wins against easy opponents didn't come easy. They didn't dominate. They didn't put that running clock up early (other than Ridgeview).

The team once again asked the defense to bail them out, keep them in the game, and find opportunities to score as the offense failed to be able to do anything consistent. Honestly, the result didn't surprise at all (maybe the margin). If you are going to be a state championship team, you need to do one thing great and other things good. Columbia played great defense (until last night), but their offense was anything but good.

Well I'm gonna take the ballsy move anyway

I've seen all the talk Lake Wales and Polk County been doing on Twitter and writing this in as a easy win for Lake Wales so I'm gonna prove just how confident I am in Columbia

Forget the original bet, I will put my Columbiafan moniker on this site on the line on Columbia beating Lake Wales because if I can't beat an overrated and overconfident Highlander team than I don't deserve to post with that name anymore on this site and I will gladly take the moniker with the most posts and likes in Florida HS Football.com history and walk into retirement

Lake Wales thinks they can end Columbia but we aren't some JV team, Columbia has 715 program wins on its back and if they think they will disrespect us and talk about how they gonna walk over Columbia they will learn the hard way what Lincoln, Escambia and Choctawhatchee have already learned this postseason

Is this going to be like on FlaVarsity, where you just went to a different account, but still kept posting?
