  1. GHS has nowhere near the talent they had in 2012 when they made a run to the finals. During that time they were considered the Alachua Co all stars as they had mostly all the top kids in the county. Since then those kids have stayed at Buchholz and Santa Fe as opposed to all going to GHS. One thing that made them look a little better was they played in an awful region and district. They didn't have to beat anybody to get to the 3rd round every year. James Thomson left after the finals appearance and Mark Latsko was hired to replace him. They haven't really had alot of talent the last couple of years and have done a good job with what they've had. Not enough talent in Gainesville for any school to make a serious run unless they get every player from around the area.
  2. Well Gridpeanut, maybe the coaching at Vanguard is excellent as you say. I just like to look at facts and real results. The best win that coaching staff has in three years is either a win over a 8-5 GHS team without 4 starters and their QB or a 6-2 Buchholz team this year. Now they may win state this year but as of now they haven't beaten anybody with any clout. They have all the pieces to make a serious run this year so we'll see how it pans out.
  3. The question is when they face people with equal talent. That won't happen until they face Armwood as that region is probably one of the weakest, they don't have to beat anybody. That's why GHS has gotten to the 3rd round every year, Vanguard should have beat them last year but lost to a team they were to superior to. Armwood will be able to match up with people and I know who will have the advantage in coaching.
  4. Vanguard has all the talent. Coaching is the only question mark and what I'm afraid will ultimately be their downfall.
  5. My question exactly Proset. I heard and have absolutely no evidence proving it that alot of kids are now home schooling and playing for TCA and they have special tutors for their home schooling. Alot cheaper than actually going to TCA but the football team benefits the same. This comes with the new rule about kids going where the want now. Before home schooled kids had to actually live in the school zone or be granted a exception.
  6. Fan74, do you know how many home schooled kids TCA has on their roster currently?
  7. Proset, the Bellview coach also got 23 transfers in this off season so it's not as if he is winning with the same kids. The recruiting pipeline to only OTC gas slowed and the results in the field are the result. Just my opinion.
  8. Physicality could be the issue for Pahokee. Newberry is a fairly physical team, they are more size than physicality but they have the size. Pahokee will no doubt be more athletic, that's a given. Best thing Pahokee could do is get a lead. I don't think Newberry likes calling plays from behind. They have a plan and do not like to deviate.
  9. Original, I absolutely agree that losing your coach and having a Qb out hurt vs Dixie is a bad situation,But if they were that good they would have still won. Trenton beat Dixie Co 54-10 and 42-6, Pahokee lost in overtime. A healthy fully loaded Pahokee beat Ft Meade 27-0, Trenton beat them 51-20 and it was 35-6 at the half. If you don't think Trenton would have smashed Pahokee I'm not sure what to tell you. Now this year is a different story but last year nobody was touching Trenton.
  10. Pahokee was supposed to be a big dog last year and didn't make it out of the 1st round. Good thing because Trenton would have embarrassed them if they would have. We'll see what they do this year.
  11. Newberry doesn't really have any elite athletes in the backfield or DBs. They do have alot of big athletes 200+ pound kids who are athletic for their size. Pahokee will probably get loose a couple of times but Newberry should frustrate them by possessing the ball and playing keep away. Haven't seen anything but clips of Pahokee but Newberry should win that matchup up front. Should be a good game between two good football teams.
  12. IMG over anybody. You have to understand they have Alabama commits sitting on the bench. Think about that, nobody can even come close to that for backups. They certainly aren't the best coached but it really doesn't matter. The size and waves of athletes they can send at you take their toll. I actually wish no one would schedule them then we wouldn't have to worry about them but I don't see it happening.
  13. They didn't have a sponsor last year. Burger King backed out and they couldn't get one to fill in. As for IMG they will be the highest ranked and team technically from Fla. Now if you have to be a state champ that changes things. I would love to see Bishop Gorman vs IMG. If it is a State Champ I would love to see Roswell or Grayson vs a STA or AHP.
  14. I'll take IMG and give anybody 10 points. That's not taking anything away from Oxbridge but the size of IMG up front will take a toll and their backups are as good as the starters. If they had a really good offensive system they would be freakishly good. Could you imagine a Rush Probst type offense with that talent. Can't see anyone touching them all year and I wish they would lose every game. Unfortunately it just isn't going to happen.
  15. Doubt it, but they are the only school who can match up physically with them. The good part for Pahokee is they would get them down in the muck. Newberry could line up with them up front but they don't have the athletes in the back end.
  16. Ft White rolls, Trenton and Newberry in a war. St Joe's experience wins out over S Walton and their 700+ students.
  17. Just speaking on a 1A level, the problem with the panhandle is they aren't deep with elite teams. They have several really good teams every year but not the blow your socks off good team. Even 2014 St Joe wasn't just overly impressive. They reminded me of 2013 Trenton in doing enough to get it done in the end. Baker is always good and were in the semis last year but weren't close to St Joe and Trenton would have embarrassed them. They look to be good again this year but matched up vs a Pahokee or Madison I fear it would get ugly pretty quick.
  18. If the Ali-Walsh kid plays for Gorman I see them winning going away, they are loaded. St Thomas has a ton of talent but when people can match their talent what happens? I think Bishop Gorman takes it 35-17.
  19. The 2A attendance is always exaggerated. I have been and there maybe 300-500 people there. They must be counting players, band cheerleaders and people working the concession to get to 1300!! A sad sight for sure, actually felt bad for the kids.
  20. 2A and 3A will have maybe 3000 combined, all private schools. You definitely want them as your day time early starts.
  21. The way the finals were before is hurry up and get out of the way. They allow you in 2hours before kickoff, only allow you a certain amount of time to warm up then after the game it's hurry up and get out of here. And that is even if you are the last game.
  22. IMG is tops on the list no doubt! STA has a loss, BTW has a loss maybe you could put American Heritage up there. I may be wrong but I believe the boys from Bishop Gorman are going to put it on STA. As for a top 10 it may look like this 1. IMG 2. Miami Central 3. American Heritage 4. STA 5. Apopka 6. Mainland 7. BTW 8. Oxbridge Academy 9. Venice 10. ???
  23. They assign the officials from associations that aren't employed by either of the two teams involved. However sometimes you get a crew from an association you previously employed and fired and maybe they have an axe to grind. In other words if Bolles plays Walton on the playoffs they get officials from Gainesville.
  24. Any stadium with a track has to pretty well be eliminated. Hard to really get a good atmosphere that far away from the field. Really good fields are when the stands are right on top of the action.
