  1. The couple times we have spoken he has not been a smart ass. But maybe it's because he did not want to disrespect his elders!
  2. Yes, I know, and you can never get rid of that altogether. My concern is that if we turn it into a business, it will have some very negative implications.
  3. It would lead to all kinds of corruption and further "professionalize" the high school game. I can think of all kinds of very disturbing things that would result including fixed games at levels as high as the coaching staffs, etc.
  4. Could not do that in the inner city for so many reasons.
  5. My take is, if we cut the number of College Bowl games in half, I would be okay with that. I don't have a problem with some of the teams on the bubble getting a bowl. But I don't think a .500 team should get one.
  6. I am okay with the runner up getting recognition. I have a problem with numbers 3, 4 & 5 getting the same.
  7. It rewards mediocrity. When anyone can get a bowl game it is no longer special.
  8. Exactly. Having a bowl game for some 5-5 or 6-4 team that has played mediocre competition serves little purpose unless it is against a former, old rival, in which case, the kids may be hyped!
  9. I think that would be good. Always a GOOD thing to see fresh, new matchups.
  10. A couple hundred students. They wanted to move up to 8A, but were declined. They may well be 7A for the new cycle as their student population has probably grown a bit since the last determination.
  11. I have not seen them, but based on who they have beaten and the way they have done it, I suspect they are the best team in the state of Florida this year and am very glad the better Central Florida (except Mainland) teams are in 8A and not 6A.
  12. They probably don't want to, or can't afford to, provide scholarship money to bring in athletes as they used to. As a result, it's been awhile since they have won a state title. Just speculation on my part as I really have no idea. Columbia should win easily next Friday and I am glad I came to the Fletcher game instead as while it was probably not Columbia's best game, it was very good to watch from a fan standpoint.
  13. Rockledge seems to be back. Back to back good seasons. Glad the Raiders are playing good football again.
  14. Very good offense; soft defense. Last year they had three losses and eventually made the state championship
  15. But what about the ones that lose the bowl game? Are they to go in deep, dark depression? When only district champs made the playoffs, I liked Bowl Games. Now, not so much.
  16. I don't disagree that it was. But I am saying that the call took a lot of air out of the Apopka kids. A great team does not make things like this get into its collective head.
  17. 1. I agree. 2. Wekiva has a great chance of making the state title game and are the best team in the North bracket in my opinion. I have not seen enough video of Columbus, Atlantic, Deerfield Beach or South Dade/Palmetto/South Ridge to determine whether I would favor Wekiva in the title game.
  18. You can add Wekiva to the list. For while there are three teams tied at the top of the district, I cannot think of any scenario in which they will not be district champions.
  19. Coach has a very good football mind. I am not going to second guess his decision. Had Apopka not been called for the penalty on the opening kickoff, the game may have been more competitive. But that is speculation on my part. Like i said, go win State. The north bracket provides you with a clear path to get there.
  20. Wekiva's defense dominated Apopka last night. In 20 seasons this is the first running clock I have seen Apopka get and that includes multiple state title and semifinal appearances . Apopka had only three good plays all night and two got called back for penalties. I won't share my opinion on whether I thought they were legit or not. But even if they were not called, it probably would not have made a difference. The dagger in the heart was the 100 yard pick six. Congratulations to Wekiva. Go win state!
  21. I believe, but am not certain, that this game has been cancelled.
  22. As you documented in another thread, Apopka has three titles from the runner up spot. And one of those was from a 6-4 regular season. Before the mid 1990s none of those Apopka teams would have won a state title as they would not have made the playoffs when only the district winner made. That said, I get your point. Apopka is an anomaly. It is very unusual for teams with more than 2 regular season losses to win a title.
  23. A modified points system is probably fairest. However, there are still kinks that need to be worked out. At the end of the day, a perfect system does not exist. If a better job was done putting competitive districts together with at least 5 teams each in the larger classifications, and the various schools did not complain, bitch and moan and were willing to travel in cases where that was necessary to put together competitive districts, I would be for the old district winner and runner up making the playoffs. But the previous district qualification system was grossly unfair to a number of teams and should be buried forever unless a better effort was made to have competitive districts. A simple example of making districts more competitive would be to move two of: Central, Northwestern, Norland and Carol CIty to two other districts. One, of these teams, for example could be moved to Dillard's district and another to the next closest 6A district (even if that meant travel to the Collier County area up through Charlotte County).
  24. A lot of both Haitians and Jamaicans in the Carol City/Norland area. In general a lot of Caribbean people live in that area. CC is luck that the forfeits were not two district games. But even if it were, chances are they would still make the playoffs though it may have been as a 7 or 8 seed.
