  1. The Bloomingdale Bulls from Hillsborough County also kept its great season intact with a nice win over Tampa Bay Tech and remains undefeated!
  2. In a nail biter that was very entertaining from a fan standpoint, Apopka defeated West Orange 27-21. It was far from a perfect game by Apopka, but the team did show something that had been missing from at least its last two outings: intensity! They wanted to win, and, I suppose, want to be playing in November. That is a good sign. All the points were scored in the first and fourth quarters. At the half the score was Apopka 21 West Orange 14, which had been the score at the end of the first. Apopka did fumble the ball away twice; but there were no interceptions this time. And while they were penalties, they were not as pervasive nor did they come at critical moments, for the most part, during the game. WO's wide receiver Harding is the real deal and I wish him well at Duke and beyond. The defense, despite giving up three scores, played as well (actually better) than I have seen it play in any other game this year and made critical stops when it mattered most, not least of which in WO's final drive when they turned the ball over on downs at the Apopka 22 with less than 40 seconds left in the game. Next is a week off which could not come at a better time as the team is banged up and depleted; then a critical district game against Wekiva. Apopka goes into the Wekiva game with its playoff destiny in its own hands. Win and they win the district and get home field advantage in the playoffs. Lose and they probably still make the playoffs, but as a wild card, as I suspect Wekiva would get the district championship as they would have fewer losses overall and an equally tough, if not tougher, schedule. For the second year in a row, WO is now in danger of not making the playoffs even though they will finish the district with no worse than a second place finish unless Evans shocks them.
  3. When I worked in Panama City on a project back in 1998, I was just up the road from Bay High. This storm was a force of nature. If one of this magnitude passed through Orlando, I can't begin to think of the damage and loss of life it would cause. I remember last year when Irma passed through, at one stage, at the storm's peak intensity, I got really concerned we were going to lose our roof.
  4. Does not work for me either says loading but never loads. Wasn't this the game where St. Thomas stormed back in dramatic fashion, though? Yes, Lakeland won, but I don't think they dominated this game. Or am I thinking of the 2006 final?
  5. Michael is a devastating storm. I pray that the loss of life will be minimal and that survivors will get the help they need to pick up the pieces. But for the grace of God ...
  6. If you get no points for a loss you would be stupid to schedule tough. The trick is how to award the right points for a tough loss. Tied in to that is how much the prior year should count as sometimes teams decline dramatically from one year to the next, a prime example being Dr. Phillips this year.
  7. Sad to hear of his untimely death. Clearly a great football player.
  8. Seems to me that Carol City is on another level this season. I would be surprised if MNW comes within 21 points of them this year.
  9. And speaking of West Orange, with their loss to Jones tonight, they are probably thinking they have to beat Apopka and clinch the district to keep their own playoff hopes alive. Jones, which was highly touted last year, has very quietly, under the radar, made a case for itself as the best Orlando area team this season.
  10. The better team tonight won. No excuses. Apopka made way too many errors to win against a team that was better than its record. Final score Mandarin 21 Apopka 7. Apopka turned the ball over at least 7 times including four interceptions and three fumbles (it could have been more). Additionally, I think we also turned the ball over on downs twice (it may have been once). It was an all around ugly performance by Apopka and probably forces the team into a situation where it has to beat West Orange next week to keep its playoff hopes alive realistically.
  11. Deerfield's field is not as bad as reputed. It will come down to which team is better.
  12. My thoughts are that you are smoking some pretty strong stuff. VB will exit in the second or third round this year. Nothing unusual in this, as it is what they have done recently. The team seems solid but not special. I can't see this being their year.
  13. Not really. They no longer play on a consistent basis and haven't for years. In the 1980s through 1990s, Evans was one of the top Orlando area programs. Colonial has never been very good and has had only one decent team in the 20 seasons I have followed Orlando area football. Evans has not had a good team in awhile, but it easily could if a few things were to change at the school.
  14. The coaching staffs hate each other. It has spilled over to the players.
  15. In this very charged society in which we live, they need to place them in separate districts (preferably regions). I fear something very bad could happen if this continues.
  16. I will be in Lake City by 5:00 pm. May grab dinner at a local establishment then head over to the school. When I am not familiar with a place, I get there early. As to the other stuff, I am a tough old geezer, but I may take your advice.
  17. Columbia lost the game because of its play at the start of the second half. No shame in the loss and I am still going to make the Fletcher game. Trinity is a very good team, and losses do happen. Apopka's three state titles have come when the team had 1, 2 and 4 losses during the regular season. We have never won state as District Champion for some odd reason.
  18. Columbia is having an epic meltdown. I am probably giving them bad luck watching. I am going to sign off.
  19. A pretty vocal guy if I remember him well. When he went to that team, i though he was going to have a rough time. But I guess he is making it work. Good for him!
  20. Watching the game reminded me how different it was back then. This was just two years before I became a big fan of High school Football.
  21. Isn't Riverdale coached by an Apopka alum and member of the 2001 team?
  22. I have to hand it to you, this is good stuff.
