  1. Exactly. That is a distinct possibility.
  2. I would love to see DB make it to Camping World. DB versus an area team would make for a good title game.
  3. This is only the third season Wekiva has had a sold team. Given the staff they have there, if they remain good, and there is some indication they will, I would expect them to schedule tough out of area games going forward. The district only has four teams with them, Apopka, West Orange and Evans. So they certainly have some flexibility in their schedule.
  4. Very physical game. I see Roland Smith has not changed his philosophy over the years. Same guy as he was 17 years ago.
  5. Unless VB is real bad, they will beat DP this year. DP has talent but it is young and I don't see them making a run this year.
  6. Huge game! If Columbia beats Trinity at their house, that would be a very big statement win!
  7. I am not saying it is the case, but it very well could be. Columbia beat IMG fair and square in the preseason game, and has yet to lose. While Vero has some good wins, there is the question as to how down Venice may happen to be. While Pahokee, has still been a very good lower classification program, they have not been the State Power they were in their years of true dominance. That VB struggled to beat them, leaves unanswered questions in my mind!
  8. Has it occurred to you that Columbia may be just a lot better than Vero Beach? That could be it, perhaps? Maybe?
  9. I don't know anything from an insider's perspective on this program. But I, too, am surprised and disappointed by their big decline. Has the coaching staff turned over? Are other schools taking their talent? There has to be some reason this has happened.
  10. Just because you don't have history on your side does not mean you can't have a good football team. What's really impressive about their record is they have yet to score less than 30 and have not given up a single point against teams, which while not murder's row, are not all sisters of the poor.
  11. So, instead of making the Apopka game last night, I went to Lyman vs Lake Mary. The decision was driven by two factors: 1. For the past seven weeks, I have been working on a project that's been brutal in terms of the hours, particularly the past two weeks. It so happens that the project is less than ten minutes away from Lyman High School, so it was convenient to just go there after leaving work at 6:15 rather than make the long drive from there to Boone. 2. After Bad Bird mentioned that Lake Mary was starting a true Freshman QB, I had taken a look at Gunnar's Huddle highlights and I liked what I saw. Well, while Lake Mary overall struggled to beat Lyman, and did not impress me very much, Gunnar certainly did. This kid seems to have been groomed from he was in the womb to be a QB. How else can you explain his first name? As a true freshman, he is tall and slender, but has a rocket arm and a very quick release. What impressed me most about him, though, was not just his arm strength, but his ability to vary his throws. The kid knows when to toss the nice easy, floater, is able to to put the ball into positions where only his receiver can get it, he just seems to know stuff that many a senior QB does not. He has been obviously well schooled, but clearly has been an outstanding student. Assuming, he puts on 20 pounds or more, grows another inch or two, and continues to make normal improvement, this kid is destined to be a four or five star, pro-style QB recruit, with multiple offers, including many from the major college powers.
  12. Laz does not have enough connectivity points to properly include out of state teams since they, by definition, don't play enough Florida teams over the space of the most recent seasons.
  13. Two things stood out to me. First the size (or lack thereof of the linemen). Back then, it seems like both lines still had athletes, at least in high school, and not the freak show we have today. The second thing that stood out: Manatee came into this game ranked # 1 in Florida and 20 nationally and clearly did not have a true QB. They had an athlete at the position. While I can see such a team still winning a State Title in Florida, I can't for the life of me see them ranked so high.
  14. Great game, if I weren't so busy this week and next, i would drive down to see this game and spend some time with my sister.
  15. It does. Laz is a football friend. A group of us have watched the past 10 state title series together. He needs good wishes for a speedy recovery. While I know football is his passion, he would be excused if he has not been as diligent with his rankings as he would like.
  16. If you knew Laz's situation, I would like to think you would not have posted this.
  17. I think it will be a close, relatively low scoring game. The more points put on the board as the clock expires, the better Apopka's chances. Wekiva's rather small stadium will be filled to overflowing for this one.
  18. Exactly, you have to focus on winning out. Your district is not strong, so, like Columbia said, you may only get one representative in the playoffs. The key is to be that representative whether it's 2-4 seeding.
  19. I know it has hurt us; no doubt. From both a personal perspective (very sorry for the kid as it hurts his recruiting some, and really hope there are no lingering effects from the injury post surgery), and as an Apopka fan. However, even without him, I think we could have won the Lakeland game, but for what I described. I think he would have made big difference in that 4th down situation, as if he had gotten the ball in it, the three yards needed would have been made. But it is what it is. I just hope that the offers he has to date (they include Ohio State, Miami and North Carolina) ,don't get pulled. It would be a shame.
  20. If you just win district, you could be anywhere from 2 to 4 (I leave off 1, because that is almost certainly CC, unless there is a lot of splitting games in their district and they fail to win it or just barely win it). The lower you are the more likely you face a Miami team in the first round, as I don't think any from that district will be the number 8 and maybe not the number 7 seed (maybe MNW ends up number 7, but I feel they end up 6 even with a 5-5 record). So, if you are seeded 3 or 4, I think you have a good chance of drawing Central/MNW, which I think will be seeded 5/6. If you are seeded number 2, I think you avoid them in the first round. But I could be wrong.
  21. IF CC wins, Central could not be 4. Dillard and Mainland could be number 4, but not a district runner up. The first four slots go to the four district winners. The remaining 4 is based on the points earned which are driven both by win/loss record and also the number of points earned. So an 8-2 team that did not win district could theoretically be a lower seed than a 5-5 team that played a very hard schedule like MNW. So that 8-2 could be seeded 7 while MNW could be seeded 6. In fact, MNW could make the playoffs with the 5-5 record while the 8-2 team may not make it in if their schedule was very weak and they did not win district. IT is a COMPLEX system, but it also encourages/provides incentive for you to schedule tough non district opponents.
