  1. Line play and the lack of a good punter cost Jones dearly. Edgewater competes with a handful of teams (which includes Wekiva) for being the best area team at this stage.
  2. Edgewater scored an impressive 28-14 win over Jones at home. Jones scored first (I did not see this as I thought the game started at 7 and not 6), so I missed the first eight minutes of play. Edgewater then scored three in a row, two coming in the first half and the the third in the third quarter. Jones then scored just before the end of the third quarter to cut the lead to 7. Alas for them, a comeback was not in the cards as Edgewater scored in the fourth to take a 28-14 lead. The margin of victory was within a point of their victory over Bishop Moore. The only difference is that while BM was in the game till midway through the 4th, this game was essentially over when Edgewater took the 21-7 lead. The difference between Edgewater and Jones was largely in the line play and the quality (or lack thereof) of Jones's punting. This sets up a very intriguing game between Jones and Bishop Moore this Friday. Based on both teams' performance against Edgewater, this would seem to be a very close game. However, I think Edgewater has improved since the BM game, while I am not sure BM has improved (even after tossing the Archbishop Spalding game out the window). The offsetting factor is that Jones plays this game on only three days rest and tonight's game was very physical with both teams getting banged up some. The winner of this game will almost certainly win the district and a playoff spot. Given that this is the north bracket of 5A this team could go far though I would not expect either to beat the south's representative. On the Edgewater side, that district will be decided between them and Wekiva. I am inclined to favor Edgewater at this juncture as the current team is ahead of last year's and reminds me of some of the Bill Gierke coached teams from 2001 through 2006, three of which got to the large class finals only to lose to Miami based teams. Alas, either Edgewater or Wekiva would face a very formidable opponent in Lakeland if they want to make the title game. At this stage I don't see that happening. However, the season is still young and things may seem different by the time the playoffs roll around.
  3. It pains me to say you were right. BM sleepwalked through the first quarter and did not put together a meaningful drive till their fourth or fifth possession when they marched downfield aided by a 15 yard penalty and scored. On the other side of the ball the Archbishop scored on each of its first three possessions. It was very difficult to watch. If BM gives Jones a game next Friday, it speaks volumes for Central Florida football and, perhaps, all of Florida football in what looks like a down year.
  4. Was being administered by Archbishop Spaulding on Bishop Moore. Spaulding is well coached and heavily recruited. Their O Line created huge holes and their backs took full advantage. They also lacked brotherly love for their Catholic brethren as with two seconds to go to the half, they call a timeout with the ball at around the BM 45. The QB, making his intentions very clear, throws a bomb into the end zone that was just out of reach of his receiver. At the time the score was 35-7 Spaulding. Having seen that, I decided to call it a night and went home. While I am not a BM fan, I take no pleasure seeing them, or for that matter, any local team get beat down by an out of state team. I remember Miami Northwestern being chastised for throwing bombs when they were up by 20 against Lake Brantley in the 2006 title game. In this case the Archbishop was up by 28.
  5. I know. Central Administration does in most cases, and sports are often not the main driver of decisions. The issue I have, though, is that Dorian never really threatened the West Coast of the state.
  6. Okay, thanks. I guess Saturday works. As you mentioned in another post, Monday may or may not be good depending on your schedule.
  7. It would make sense to, especially with the new playoff structure. One missed day of practice should not cause games to be cancelled Friday.
  8. Were schools shut in Tampa most of the week? If not, I don't get why they would cancel/reschedule Friday's games.
  9. If it is not, then this would be my default game Friday, then.
  10. I think they could have continued with the prior system or done some of the things you suggested two or three years ago instead. I think this latest iteration, despite good intentions, is going to be very difficult to manage.
  11. Then by definition with out of state teams, it must be a prediction since his algorithm would not have information for these teams. Personally, I have always felt what he does are predictions cloaked in the language of using an algorithm. Laz, in contrast, does use an algorithm.
  12. Hopefully, you still have several good driving years left. Anyway, welcome back to Florida!
  13. Does that mean you have now retired and moved home?
  14. Sadly, I have to agree with you. At this stage of the season, the whole state is down this year.
  15. That area is very top heavy. Not much else after a handful of teams. It is where Florida is rapidly heading as recruiting runs amok.
  16. And you enjoy watching the Bucs getting a big beat down, period!
  17. From a distance I agree with you. Sounds like BTW played Central equal and were unlucky to lose. I don't think BTW could hold MNW to 10 points.
  18. Looks like it was a good game. Hope you made it.
  19. Hard fought win. Is Miramar that good or are you overestimating Dillard a bit?
  20. Apopka beat Coral Gables 27-12 but struggled. In fairness they did have about 4 or 5 starters out injured.
  21. Wekiva has obviously come a very long way since their spring game.
  22. Plenty to see on that film for both teams, good and bad.
  23. I believe you are underselling Bishop Moore. I get the point with weak secondary, but believe they are CF top 10. Overall, Central Florida looks relatively weak this year. BM is a good high school team that is unfortunate to be paired with Jones who is state caliber.
  24. I see you guys have a good kicking game this year. With that, a great defense and a maturing offense as the season progresses you will be a favorite to win another state title this year.
