  1. ..... a lot of people are delusional... LOL, none more than you, my god
  2. Count the head coaches they have had ??? They win when they have "Quality" guys !!!
  3. Again........take some random team. Deland has great home grown talent. And whenever they have had great "color blind" coaching they have been a winner.
  4. Do nothing in Alabama ? Pretty flippant there Nolebull, even for your low standards. Check if he broke the Alabama season scoring record in one of those loser years ?
  5. Can't say I remember it well, but I do have the 1994 FHSAA Championship program to re-kick my fading memory. It was 1994 and Ocala Vanguard was lead by the biggest high school quarterback I had ever seen (to that point), 6'4" 220lb Daunte Culpepper. And they brought with them a huge vocal Ocala crowd to Daytona Beach. The only problem was their opponent , for the class 5A state championship was Bradenton-Southeast lead Hall of Fame Head coach Paul Maechtle (283 wins) and a defending 1993 state championship team. Under center for the Seminoles that night might have been the greatest Florida athlete to ever play quarterback, Peter Warrick (FSU, NFL 1st round pick-# 4 Cincinnati, Seattle). The game was close throughout and Vanguard was driving for the win but came up short. Can't remember ending !!! Southeast wins 19-17.* * Complete game is on YouTube, if anyone is interested
  6. Shrek was avatar, known as Sexy Beast, but that's between you and I.....(wink,wink)
  7. Another "opinion" on Lake Mary and it's very fine young quarterback Noah Grubbs after reading the excellent analysis from both "shedstar" and "KeenD321." No way on earth did I believe Lake Mary would overwhelm my revered Mainland Buccaneers 33-0 in our house. Their defense dominated in all phases, nothing else to say. Their offense was a different story. Young Grubbs was continually harassed, 5-22, for 127yds with numerous "throw aways" to avoid a sack. But he also threw three perfect touchdown passes on well covered receivers that were a thing of beauty. The big kid (6'4-5") has a powerful arm with the finesse of a varsity veteran. Their running back killed us by being about to get outside which isn't typical with our speedy defenders. He also was tough to bring down. He came out of the game a couple times after big hits. He was visibly limping in the 4th quarter. It's not hard to see how his absence greatly affected what they could do against a very good team like Mandarin..... Final thoughts on Noah Grubbs, tremendous upside, got the size, arm strength that was the gold standard for future college and NFL quarterback greats. But, both games are rapidly evolving. Speed Kills. Got to have movement to buy time, take less hits, and run for positive yardage when necessary. He didn't need his legs against my Bucs. At the next two levels it's beginning to be a "must have." Defensive coordinators don't miss much or they aren't around very long. Best to the young man. Glad to get a chance to see him.
  8. I have the same geographical feelings. Generally Cocoa and St Augustine High get the same, unless playing Mainland. Only since the hiring of Coach Darlington at Deland have my feelings changed towards the Bulldogs. I like the man. Deland always has talent. But when they field a team that "LOOKS" like Mainland West, then you know they're playing their best athletes. This wasn't always the case with weaker head coaches. And I'll take that "opinion" to the grave.
  9. No malice intended. Well... not a gambling man myself, but surely the home team TC is the favorite. Being a Daytona boy, Deland was always the enemy. Baseball, football, basketball, or track, it didn't matter. Getting robbed over there by the Ref's was to be expected, the norm. (Jambun excluded :) For years and years Bulldog87 and I threw team and personal insults back and forth on Rival's FlaVarsity message board. I'd like to say "our maturity" stopped the feud, but when Deland's football team went through 8-10 head coaches in about a decade and a half and their wins disappeared, so did he. That's my version, his might be a little different
  10. Nice analysis KeemD, I think you're spot on. Shout out to the young QB Grubbs. What potential, and he still has two more years of high school ball.
  11. The author has reread the original post and the two follow up responses before your "love" (Deland) comment. Please allude to where any love or favoritism toward Deland was suggested ? No hater here !
  12. Master vs Apprentice, Old (sorry Mr. Darlington) vs New, Single wing vs Single wing. Don't have the dates, but at one time Deland's head coach Rick Darlington helped Treasure Coast's coaching staff incorporate it's now winning single-wing offense. Coach Darlington ran his version of Pop Warner's 1907 offense too perfection with three Florida state championships while coaching at Apopka High School. It's rarely seen today, on the gridiron, with all the high powered sideline to sideline shot gun spread passing offenses. There in lies it's uniqueness and difficulty to defend with only a week's worth of practice from game to game in a typical season. Two of Daytona Mainland's football greats Jeremy Bell , now head football coach at Atlantic High (Port Orange,Fl), and Antwaun Wyatt, son of NFL'er and Bethune-Cookman Hall of Fame player and head coach both were on T.C.'s staff during those early years of running the single-wing. This is a very intriguing match up. Particularly for my part of the state. Both coach Bell and coach Wyatt are 1st cousins, along with Mainland's head coach Travis Roland. It's all in the Daytona family.
  13. Outside of the two "FLOPPS" by the white team , I didn't "see" much of anything out there. #old, blind, hard,of,hearing
  14. Your transformation is startling, I'm breathless !
  15. 100% . A coach should NEVER strike a child in anger. The Bobby Knight type were and still are A-holes...RIP
  16. Yes Professor......what homework, said little Danny.
  17. Maybe, but I'm most definitely deficient between the ears, my brother
  18. ... and this is why you will always be my favorite Economist..... also the only one I will ever have the pleasure of knowing.
  19. I haven't seen even keeled and unflappable DarterBlue this perplexed since, after several hair pulling hours, discovering a small transposition error for a Fortune 500 client.....oh man.
  20. For over taking Hollywood Chaminade and winning the FHSAA's final regular season title. Hats off to this perennial little powerhouse that will play anyone, anywhere. It's hard not to love those kids and their fabulous football program.
  21. Geez, is Lake Mary in Dade County ? I don't think so.....
