  1. Let me make a quick note regarding Mainland using information from the story that was linked in this thread earlier:

Mainland is currently in 6A based on old enrollment numbers. They currently have enough students to play in 7A and would like to move up since they know they will be moving up in 2019 so they said "hey, why not just do it now."

So they sought to be moved to 7A, based on their enrollment numbers, but they quickly realized district travel would be a nightmare since there were no local teams within a short drive from them.

So they then looked at 8A and said "yeah we can compete here and the district travel would be very manageable" so they then decided to appeal to be moved to 8A.

And, yes, teams have done this in the past. Teams have requested to be moved to a different classification because of district travel pains.

8A,D-1: 1) Flagler Palm Coast plays Mainland regularly- 25 miles away

    2) Deland plays Mainland yearly, for ever - 20 miles away

    3) Spruce Creek plays Mainland regularly - 7 miles away

This is a no brainer over 7A. Also better area early playoff competition: Apopka, Dr Phillips, Osceola, etc. The Bucs aren't ducking Dade or STA. They don't run scared. It's a smart move. Call them up Miami, regular season home and home sounds good to this FAN.

  2. You are wrong.

It's 2010, 2016, 2009, 2013. This team has just knocked off two undefeated teams so give me a break. You haven't seen their potential, you've seen what like 3 games?

You and Dan sound a little bitter, TBH.

Look it's true, I don't know DP. Seen them live three times in my life. Miami Central beat them in a close title game the first time and Mainland beat them by 20 pts in both of the last two years. Sanford should have won last night's TV game. I haven't seen any greatness going on those fours games alone. My hate stems from them being a rich privileged public, like Manatee, Plant, and every top Private powerhouse out there(Bolles, TCA, OTC, AH-P, STA,etc). Yes I'm jaded, old, and sometimes not very pleasant. And by the way, Carol City would beat them like a drum. Hope to see you at the game Saturday night. Not hate'n on you Mid, just your team.
  3. Watched the whole DP/ Sanford game on Brighthouse. DP had about a dozen personal fouls. Most were pretty obvious on replay. Being a hater, they still don't look very impressive. But they've made it to the big house for the big game, unlike some....Clueless about Southridge's team. But I can't believe DP is the best team in 8A........Southridge takes the title

  4. You say your team is better than Mainland but remains nameless. There are few that have better success than Mainland. The reasoning behind the move is to be able to schedule tougher teams. The way it is now there is very little room to schedule teams. There are 5 teams in the district (Deltona, Matanzas, New Smyrna, Seabreeze, and Pine Ridge), plus Mainland's A.D. schedules Deland and Flagler every year for the money games and its tradition. So that leaves only three weeks left. Mainland scheduled DP, Cocoa, and Bartram Trail. By moving to 8A and put into the suspected district the Deland and Flagler game will already be there and not have to be scheduled outside of the district, that frees up two extra weeks to schedule whoever. So Mainland still has five district games but also has 5 weeks to schedule whoever, well probably 4 weeks because Seabreeze is the rival. There was a lot of thought that went into the move and it had nothing to do with dodging Dade County. The head coach didn't want to move at first because of people saying this exact same thing. Mainland has the students to be 7A but petitioned for 8A because of travel. There are no 7A teams in Volusia County. Mainland would have to travel to St. Johns County and Alachua County in 7A whereas 8A there would only be one trip that was farther and that would be in Duval county.

Please coach, don't make him mention Willie Green. My nightmares and cold sweats could return...
  5. I would say Dr. Phillips 2016 is a carbon copy of DP 2015. Seminole and Winter Park are clearly weaker than West Orange and 2015 Osceola, were and are probably about on the level of last year's Mandarin team. Vero Beach seems improved from last year, but having not seen them, I am not sure by how much. I am starting to think that South Ridge is the favorite to win 8a, mostly because they are not giving up any points.

Damn Darter, If I knew you were up and posted I'd have been quiet with no response. Need to hit the refresh in a more timely fashion. :(

  6.  8A South is down significantly indeed , but 8A North looks to be down a good amount as well.

    Last year looked like this:

8A South:  Flanagan, Delray Atlantic, Columbus, South Dade

8A North:  Osceola, Dr. Phillips, Mandarin, West Orange

I can comfortably say that  what is left in 8A South for 2016  would likely lose to the 2015 teams  South Dade and Delray Atlantic and get destroyed by Columbus and Flanagan.

How would you rate the 2016 final four of 8A North versus the 2015 final four of 8A North? Would you say Dr. Phillips 2015 or 2016 is stronger?

Osceola, Apopka, Mandarin, and West Orange are all down from 2015. As far as Dr Phillips, all I know is what I saw. (IMO) They were flat and uninspired this year. Last year that wasn't the case. Mainland beat them by 20pts both years. They have rebounded well so far. I would question the level of competition. PipeDreams said they would breeze after Mainland, and they have. My guess would be the 2015 edges the 2016 team. But that is of no consequence. 8A south looks considerably do from last year.  PipeDreams went to DP and knows them. 181pl went to Plant and knows them. They have your answer, but they may hold on to it....for a while.

  7. I said I can see why Mainland is the favorites and can win cause their home... But I also said their schedule wasn't tough enough or their just that good. If I had money on the game I would go with Mainland...

Come on ZOE!! You don't REALLY mean that. CC has been your team all year. QB playing good, both RB's healthy, top defense in the state, and you'd put $$$ on Mainland. What did the Bulls do that has you questioning CC ? Play'em tight both times ? ...... Here's what I Know. You're right, Mainland has had a very week schedule. They haven't been tested all year. I also know Dade has more athletes then any area of the country. CC's district is the toughest in America. It wouldn't surprise me if 3 of the 4 semi-final teams came from that district next year if the bracket is set up that way. It won't be, but that's another story for another day. Mainland's good, real good. But it's on Denzel Houston. Stop him, you stop Mainland. The problem is NO ONE HAS. I go back to the 1960's with Mainland football. We've never had a QB as good as this young man. TT Toliver was close, Greg Allen was good, John Schnebly, Tracy Shropshire, Pat Calhoun, and Brian Morris were all good too name a few. But Denzel is special. He doesn't get rattled. Even as a 9th grade freshman, the kid was composed and under control. If the Bucs can't win with him we might never beat Dade. Oh, we'll still whip hell out of most other counties in good years but we've been doing that consistantly for more then 20yrs now. We gotta beat CC on Friday. Don't Know if we will. I say " ref's keep your flags in your pockets on this one,"  Neither team wants or need the help. May the best team win and both leave it all out on the field.... Bucforever

  8. Dan, I was there for every one of those games you mentioned.  That on with Xavier Lee was a doozie.  I have never seen a high school team throw the ball as well as they did.  Lee was special.  And yes we have taken our lumps in the championship games.  Chaminade was a machine.  There was another on I don't want to remember either.  Would love to see our teams match up again.  On a side note I know I am getting old and my memory is starting to fail me but I don't remember missing the playoffs in 2013.  I know the last few years we have been down some but could have sworn we still made the playoffs.  I could be wrong.

M&S, I was at those games too, except the '03 spring game. State track meet was going on in Gainesville at that one. The 2013 4A North bracket has Fort White as district champ, and Taylor(Perry) County as runner up. Like I said before the FHSAA does make mistakes and they will change the record book if you bring it to their attention. Good luck to the Cowboys.

  9. Now that would be a good game to watch Madison vs Mainland

Tiger, We've been to Boot Hill, and it wasn't pretty. Lost 25-14 in 2005. Turned the ball over on three consecutive second half possessions and had trouble stopping that powerful ground game. In 2006 we got revenge at home 21-19. Also played a great spring game against them here in Daytona(2003). Great program, great hospitable fans..... Also saw them here in Daytona against Seabreeze, with Qb Xavier Lee (FSU), torching the Madison "D" and watch Madison's running backs stomp all over the Sandcrabs for hundreds of yards. Madison won a 56-42 shootout. It was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen.

  10. Madison County must be right behind you guys with 21 or 22 years straight.

M&S, Madison's streak ended in 2013 at 18 in a row (FHSAA Record Book) **

Palm Bay's steak at 18 ended in 2014.

    Current Consecutive Playoff Streak: St Thomas-26, Bolles-24, Lakeland-24, Mainland-23.

** Record Book is not always correct. I've sent email to FHSAA  when something was wrong and it was corrected within days. See something ?

  11. How does the Mainland alumni, fan base and community feel about not making it to states every year. I know Central is out of the playoffs but you still have either Carol City or Northwestern and they're not pushovers by any means. Personally I'd be tired of going undefeated but get to the 3rd or 4th round and can never advance. I know everyone is putting Mainland in Orlando but I'm waiting first.

Well Slick, it's like this. I'm an older gentleman. One among many alumni to have followed the program for many many seasons. Only Lakeland High has a longer running playoff streak among public's then Mainland, 24yrs vs 23yrs. I know how good this diehard fan has had it. Sure it's tough running into one of the top teams in America year in and year out. In '04 and '06 Lakeland did the same thing in the semi's over there. To be in the mix on a yearly basis trump's all the ups and downs. I couldn't be more proud of the players and the coaches and what they have accomplished. They'll get another title. I just hope to be there. Bucforever.

  12. Thanks for the post BrowardHandicapper. The only thing that I would add, which wasn't really mentioned, is besides the longevity of the coaching staff they are also ex-Daytona Mainland, Seabreeze, and/or Bethune-Cookman players themselves. 90% of them played here locally as young men. It's a family thing. Mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins, bothers, sisters, etc, most all went to school here also. Many teams claim a family brotherhood. At Mainland it's real. And it can never be left out when explaining or trying to understand the program's success...Bucforever

  13. Just curious, but does C-M not have lights installed yet on its campus stadium ? Saw an afternoon game there ( against Mainland ) in 2004 and that was the reason for the early start. Is this still the case being that the school is in the middle of a residential area and they(the school) wants to be "good neighbor." Surely $$$ wouldn't be the issue with lights.
