954gator got a reaction from Bamarod in Thoughts about IMG
No that was when they had the big running qb. Wasn't the best throwing the ball but he could just run wild with the line he had, and it would allow WRs to run wide open. It seemed nearly impossible to stop the read option runs of his. Also the defense was the best one by far.

All I'm saying is if they play like they did in first half for a entire game they are capable of defeating anyone in FL
That was the perfect game

He was like a mongoose back there. No body could touch him. Also he seemed to know where his guys were going to be at all times. I swear he threw a couple throws without looking and almost completed them lol. You should be proud of your boys they played excellent.

Everyone is talking about how big IMG is, but let me tell you Columbia has some big boys on both sides of the line. They held their own. I've always thought IMG secondary was never that good save 2016 with Bookie (same with WRs). The thing that set apart IMG the last few years was that the D front had literally some of the BEST DTs in the nation. They don't seem to have that anymore (in the middle).
I do think their offense will click though.

954gator reacted to XDC in Atlantic has some things to tighten up
That they do. Very sloppy performance, IMO. Multiple false start penalties. A few untimely encroachments that extended drives. And they dropped at least two interceptions that could have easily went the distance.
That said, they played one of the better teams in South Florida. It looks like a well-respected PBC offensive mind has his hands all over this offense. What he is trying to do suits their QB, and I think they will get a lot better as the year rolls on. When clicking, it is a tough offense to prepare for, as it utilizes multiple formations and blends the Spread and Wing-T offenses quite effectively.
On defense, they are playing with more three down than I am used to seeing with an Atlantic defense. They struggled with the big play, and on a few drives, they had trouble fitting gap-scheme runs.
All in all, I'd say reserve judgement on this team. I will have a better idea where they fall in PBC after I see Dwyer/PBC lock horns this evening.

I've seen enough. 26-7 midway through the 3rd quarter. I'll have more thoughts tomorrow.
Until next time.

19-7 Miami Central at the half. Should be much worse. The Rockets had three drives stall deep in Atlantic territory.
Very impressive half by MC.

954gator reacted to OldSchoolLion in FL vs Georgia 50 Game Results from 2004-2017
Southern and central Georgia, especially the Valdosta and Warner Robins areas, really ruled until the mid-90's. Then Parview and Brookwood started making noise in Atlanta. Parkview won 3 titles in a row around 2000, which you just didn't see happening prior in years past.
The suburbs north and east of the city exploded and about 10 years ago a lot of the teams we hear about in Georgia today, ie Grayson, started coming on the scene. South Florida always had great football. Atlanta didn't, but what has happened there in the past 10 years is extraordinary. They don't have to worry about losing much talent to private schools. And unlike south FL, which is locked in by the Everglades, Atlanta can just keep growing since there is lots of open land to the north and east.
In a way, the scenario is much like the shift of power in the 90's from north FL southward, except in GA it has been from south to north.

954gator reacted to OldSchoolLion in The Original National Powers of South Florida - Video
In 1965, St Thomas Aquinas was 3-6 and was shut out in 5 of those games, including shutout losses to Northeast and Jupiter. They only scored a TD in the 3 games they won. Nobody would have dreamed they would be a national power one day.
So, who knows what things will be like when you young guys have gray hair. Things will probably look very different than today. If your team is winning big now, enjoy it while it lasts!

954gator got a reaction from Cat_Scratch in Maxpreps top 25 in Florida is out
Ehh not a big fan of these rankings. Would anyone take a team like Wekiva over Miami Central or Carol City? I think Wekiva is going to be a very good team, but...slow down lol.
Also Deerfield Beach...lets see it first. Hyping them up based off talent has become a yearly disappointment.

Idk how they justify Bartram Trail being ranked in a computer poll
They lost the 2 players who carried that team last year and they lost around 25-30 players
I've already seen them up close, they have no business being ranked ahead of some of the teams they are ahead of
Plus Deerfield Beach at 6 seems way too high, them over Miami big 3 and AHP seems like a stretch for a team that usually losses against teams of similar quality and ik people will defend Deerfield and say they loaded this year but when are they not loaded in talent
And wekiva at 4 is a stretch, yeah they talented and have potential to finish close to there if they live up to the hype but this early i wouldn't rank them that high
Apopka at 24 seems low
Plant at 19 seems a little high but considering the other mistakes this one isn't a big deal
Braden River seems a little too high
Carol City and Central are too low
Dr Phillips is clearly too low

954gator...it is difficult to be humble when your team...
is the undisputed 7A champion of Columbia County 3 years running has never lost a home playoff in an even year since the year 2000 is undefeated against St Thomas Aquinas, Armwood, and Northwestern (not their fault if they didn't show up for the games) -

...turns out a number of invitations to the state championship sent to teams in south Florida never made it...all wrong addresses....all of them were postmarked from Lake City...tragic, but honest error, I'm sure
-

...so disappointing that so many of these teams did not show up for the "state championship" later in the month. I guess teams like Booker T and Carol City wanted no part of Columbia or Sandalwood.

954gator reacted to OldSchoolLion in St Thomas Aquinas vs Miami Dade Individual Game Results
That's good history and thank you. I could not remember if BTW was nationally ranked when they played. And it makes complete sense that when STA scheduled them they expected to be playing the best Miami-Dade had to offer. One thing is for sure, regardless of where either team ends up in the rankings..Central and STA are wonderful programs and to my knowledge this is the first time they will ever meet in their long histories. Even if both teams imploded this year, it should be a good show, and that's all fans can ask for.

954gator reacted to OldSchoolLion in Quiz-How Does FL Rank in Production of NCAA/NFL Stars?
Recognizing ratings of high school players today are sometimes inflated, a better measure of which states produce the best top-flight talent might be to look at performance of these athletes in college.
1. Over the past 10 years, the following 6 states have produced numerous NCAA consensus all-americans. By "produced," I mean they played their hs ball in that state. Which state has produced the most consensus all-americans in total over the past 10 years?
#1 Texas - 25 players
#2 Florida - 17 players
#3 Georgia - 13 players
#4 Ohio - 11 players
#5 California - 9 players
#6 New Jersey - 6 players
Try questions #2 and #3 in the original post above if you would like.
