  1. I really like the idea of having a 64-team "D1" for all the top teams in the state (for football). I liken it to the NCAA Tournament in which there are multiple conference champions playing for the one National Championship. It would also stop blowouts in the playoffs. Does it water down a State Championship in other classifications? I'm not sure of that. Think about the old-school college football days when one team claimed a title based on Coaches polls, AP Polls, BCS, etc. I think it might not be bad to allow other schools a shot to compete, even if it isn't at the top classification. I mean, do the FCS, DIII, or JUCO National Champions feel any less accomplished than a DI school? I don't think so.

  3. I know the area where I live (Osceola/Orange County) transfers have had more of an impact hurting those "average" teams more than helping the good teams.

  5. Some games up in the Central Florida area got moved around too. I think that the fields just didn't handle the rain well and were underwater. I think they're going to end up getting made up next week-ish
  6. For the most part? Yes. Celebration had a good staff in place a few years ago and won 6 or 7 games but he left and the bottom fell out again. They are typically a 0-3 win team per year. They're issue seems to me (from the outside) to come from impatience. I think they've had close to 10 coaches in like 15 years. The level of turnover is absurd.

It seems like, right now, it's going to be a lot harder for schools like Gateway, Harmony and St. Cloud because this new school is going to affect enrollment for all three schools (whether taking kids directly or through re-drawing lines for enrollment). Each of those schools will have a good spurt here or there but not enough to start competing with Osceola High. They're another animal entirely.

Anthony Davis is the first coach at Tohopekiliga High School (New school opening in Osceola County next year).
  9. I'm from around the Orlando area and Poinciana's struggles are well-known around here. The school has athletes there (I believe they won a State Championship in Boy's Basketball not too long ago) but I think the population is what hurts football. The demographics are like 70% Hispanic and football just doesn't seem as popular there as basketball. So there are athletes but 1) they aren't interested in football and 2) there's no history to build upon. That's going to be tough to get out of that cycle for the next coach.
  10. If there was no committee and only the AD, then I would agree that everybody who applied for that job got kind of a raw deal. I wonder how many interviews happened before he made his decision. I just want to keep an eye out to see if some of these other former head coaches don't start trying to make moves back into the HFC chair. And, at a school like Windermere it seems weird. School was only one year old. Why didn't he apply to be the head coach instead of the AD last year? Maybe that's why Miller decided to leave after opening the school and only coaching the first season (although that's just speculation on my part at this point...)
  11. Yeah, my feeling is that it's kind of shady too. I just think that with so many applicants applying it's hard to fathom that none "passed the test" in terms of having potential. I mean, if an AD interviewed, say, 15 of 100 applicants and was unhappy with all of them I would think that's more on the members of the hiring committee than anything.
  12. I was trying to get people's opinions on this: How do you guys feel about an AD stepping into the Head Football role? It seems weird to me that these schools like Bartow (last year) and Windermere would get 100+ applicants and the AD ends up with it. Don't get me wrong, I realize that each school has to do what is best for its own program and I also get that there are times it is needed (such as a mid-season resignation or termination). I just think it's weird to see. Thoughts?
  13. Hillsborough County football games are all scheduled by the County Athletic Director. I work at a school near Orlando and we were working with a coach to try and schedule a game about a year or two ago and he couldn't do it. Teams can request games but it's ultimately up to whoever their County AD is (from what I can understand).

Tampa area is having a day. Jefferson, Newsome, Spoto (I believe) all opened today. I think Brandon too.

Jefferson is looking for a Head Coach. Theirs resigned last night. Heard they had an interesting season...
  18. I felt terrible for that kid. That was one of the worst-looking breaks I've seen. Hope he's ok.
  19. I went to the WR/Lake Nona game and their D was really good. They won 17-10 but Nona only scored a TD on a short field after Wiregrass went for it on 4th and 4 inside their own 20. I am sure I am in the minority, but I think this game could be a little better than people think - especially if Lakeland is struggling on offense. If Lakeland gets it rolling early, then I don't think Wiregrass will be able to hang.
  20. If we're talking best logos we've seen for ANY high school, I have to give it to the creeper from Bishop Lynch HS:

  24. Believe me, I go to pro wrestling classes during the off-season and in my free time and it makes you a different kind of sore every single time. But, it's also an incredibly fun experience. As for those guys who do it for a living, more power to them because I couldn't imagine that being my day job.
  25. I did. I grew up watching guys like Ric Flair. I thought it was great.
