I would have rather been blown out by the entire national team playing the entire game then to get some false hope by playing what was effectively a mix of a few studs and backups and put a target on us and winning

Now we are in a spot where we have to make it to Orlando or we look like underachivers and brides maids

Why couldn't Miami Christian follow through on their responsibility and played IMG white so we wouldn't have had to play a mixed game

Good news is IMG coaching staff has your game  to keep their players motivated.

You know Vero Vero was about to stop y'all until that coach told that o lineman to literally drop dead on the on their second to last play of their drive right before the td AND y'all wanna talk about our special team but one of our tds from the special teams in was called back on a bs call, that play had a big influence as well on the out come of the game

What's your point? The clock running out is not the same as defense stopping a team from scoring.Did they not score on the next play? Vero lost by 7 at home  against a soph. QB playing in his first varsity game. Losing by 17 on the road sounds about right.

  3. After watching the entire game( a feat in itself), Vero will be lucky to keep it a game. They have too many issues to fix in a week. Playing an elite team like Venice requires much more discipline than they showed against Viera. Just getting special teams lined up was a difficult assignment all game. Way too many players not executing on both sides of the ball. Venice is starting a new QB so that could help you guys, you'll need it.

  4. Thanks Drogo for posting game stream.  Game was UGLY for both teams. Lots to clean up, too many flags on both offenses. Special teams were really bad, players not knowing if they are supposed to be on field(Vero about 5 times).  Viera  offense looks like you would expect it to when a sophomore is running the offense at QB. Reminds me way too much of Bama last year with Jalen Hurts at QB. Viera QB is looking for a space to run instead of an open receiver downfield.

  5. KOC results Viera 35- Vero Beach 28

                          Palm Bay 34   Melbourne  7

Viera lost  a QB and second and third WRs.  Defense might be more athletic in front 7and the counties best DB in Reid.   Melbourne looked terrible last night against a solid Palm Bay team( 4 different players scored). Viera will win district again. Soph. QB Norton is very athletic but needs to improve his passing attack. Can get to 3rd round play-offs with a season to develop. No way Melbourne talent closes gap this year.

...another tidbit.  Below are the more successful programs from the list above.  Note the coaching continuity.

Bartram Trail-Darrell Sutherland-18 seasons as head coach

    Braden River-Curt Bradley-6 seasons

Cypress Bay-Mark Guandolo-11 seasons (resigned last season)

Heritage(Palm Bay)-Mark Ainsley-4 seasons (and one other coach who was there 4 years since the school opened)

    Wharton-David Mitchell-13 seasons

Viera-Kevin Mays-7 seasons (resigned last season)

Kevin Mays made Viera football program.  Having staff continuity is the top factor in making a new school competitive. Of course, coaches need to be competent to begin with.

I think the coach at cocoa now will do a very good job

Was able to watch the  Cocoa game streaming last night and he has his hands full with the changes he's making. Has two top RBs as Cocoa always seems to have(not Gaines but the other RB scored 5 TDs), and spent a lot of time on passing game that struggled. If he relies on running game he should do well, but defense did not look like a Cocoa defense last night. Gave up a ton of yards and points for them.  I don't know much about the coach but he has big shoes to fill.

  8. OSLion, on conditioning of IMG team. The 400lb OL from last year is Evan Neal down to 360 and the top tackle in high school football. The staff has done an incredible job turning Neal's personal potential into reality. At this years Opening he dominated the top DEs in the country.

My point is a lot of these guys come to the program with serious conditioning issues and some understand with proper discipline and diet can become elite.Hoping to get Neal at Bama next year at 345 and fighting for playing time.

  9. Agree with both points of view. Columbia shocked everyone by dominating first quarter. But the true dominance of IMG is they pound on you with those big guys up front on both sides of the ball and in second half- dominate. Find it hard to believe with Cain and Sanders this won't happen all season long, two of the top RBs in nation. I agree with OSLion that you can't count half a game as a win, especially against an IMG second half team.

That said all Columbia fans should be flying high as a kite, team looked great in all phases of game and you should be looking forward to one of the better seasons in your history. Lots to be excited about!

  10. They have a solid youth league to pull from, and being the largest school in Brevard gives them a large talent pool. They lost Kevin Mayes  who brought stability to coaching position and when he left, rest of staff remained. New Head Coach is old DC so they are keeping all the formations the same, problem is so few elite QBs to run the offense they want to run.Everyone I talked to thought Viera would get all the yearly transfers that Cocoa was getting, didn't happen. They got 1-2. If new HC can keep it going we should see some transfers next season. Cocoa is dealing with the same situation, HC needs to prove he can run the program that Coach Wilkenson built.

Viera looked down from last year, but so does Vero. Lots to work on for both teams, To be honest I’d say both teams are in real trouble next week: Viera (Rockledge) Vero (Venice.)

Good thing for Viera is that Jashaun Corbin is at Texas A&M  this season. Rockledge lost as much as Viera. Should be another nail-biter, could go either way unless certain issues can be fixed this week.

Long time Vero fan, sloppy game on both sides from what I saw, but that’s to be expected being a KOC.

Vero’s weakness is what they thought it would be: the O line. Vero QB Celadonio was under pressure all night and they’re running game was virtually non existent. Lots of penalties on both sides, lot of cramping and injuries on both sides (all legit from what I saw despite Flotech’s assumption.)

Viera looked down from last year, but so does Vero. Lots to work on for both teams, To be honest I’d say both teams are in real trouble next week: Viera (Rockledge) Vero (Venice.)

Viera has to have a dynamic QB to make the offense go and they have been lucky to have had back to back above average at the position. Your analysis is what i was expecting from Viera. Soph. QB Norton has improved as a passer from the spring game but can't carry a team like the QBs of the past. They might have a slight upgrade in Oline but negated by slipping at WR and QB. Atkins #16 was their best weapon last year and he is back, but was held in check. defense might be better overall from last year. real athletes on line and at LB. Was wondering if anyone was picked on in secondary in this game. Some very good talent back there with some weak spots. Hopefully coaches will put the right guys on the field to cut down on mistakes in coverage.

  13. Viera loses 22-18 on bogus calls by refs.  Plant gets a BS unsportsmanlike conduct  call against Viera(for playing HELLS BELLS sound after offense broke huddle ) on defense to gain a first and goal inside 10 yd line and scores with 8 seconds left in game.  Game was almost as bad as Rockledge-Cocoa game by refs. Refs took away two Viera tds, one on a bogus holding penalty on a return, another from a time out call by plant as Viera scored in first half. Refs called penalties against Plant but not in crucial situations. Read that again, They moved the ball inside the 10 with a minute left in game because they said the bell sound for third down was played at the wrong time.Bell sound was played on every third down in game, but refs flag it inside a minute to go in a play-off game? UNBELIEVABLE !

I knew Plant coaching staff was experienced but that is embarrassing. Plant also used fake injuries to slow Viera offense in second half, players faking hurt going out for a play then coming back in to game, 7 times, really? Plant defense could not compete in 2nd half, big but slow and exhausted, but coaches found a way to slow down Viera.  Lost all respect for Plant, but coaches know how to work a ref crew.

Would Love to go to the Viera - Plant game, but my wife is a die hard Cocoa fan, and she has invited a slew of her friends to sit with us... I would be up the creek if I went off on my own.

Pretty sure it will be another running clock unless we get Rockledged...

I'll be watching Viera. I'm sure you will be bored watching that clock tick down in 2nd half. I would think on your way to Viera you would stop off and cheer on Rockledge vs Cardinal Gibbons. Lots of talent on that field!

  15. This team has a lot of big game experience. From Allen ,TX to Gonzaga, Wa.and deep play-off runs the last 2 years, they are up to the task, which is the first time in its history this can be said.

The fortunes of the team revolve around the development of QB DeMorat. Second year starter he has come a long way this season. The staff has continued to feed him with greater flexibility as the season has progressed. He truly looked better then Kingston in the last game. I'm not talking about the competition,Gaither, but his ability to see all the field and hit the tougher outside routes,as opposed to the simple slants he has been hitting for two years.Simply put, if he is not pressured from the Plant defense, and matches his performance of last week, no teams but Venice and STA can slow him down or beat this Hawk team.

Viera defense is the surprise part of this team. Would not trade our starting 11 for anybodies. Great athletes in secondary(can cover top receivers in state), front 7 misses few tackles, when they get their hands on you ,your done.Very disciplined team, won't beat themselves.

Special teams are a strength, elite returners in Atkins, Q.Phillips, Travis Jones (have all scored on returns). Two elite punter and kicker puts ball in end-zone probably 90%.Both will play at the next level.

One final comment, it would be dangerous to only observe stats with this offense, only played 9 games. Running clocks and blow-outs after first half have been the norm.

I'll predict this Hawk keeps soaring as QB DeMorat builds more confidence..

    VIERA  31  -      plant   17
