  1. I could see Vero losing the following: Clearwater, Venice, Chaminade, Treasure Coast, and potentially losing to Centennial and Lake Minneola. All the teams mentioned were playoff teams last season (as was Viera) except Clearwater for obvious reasons.

If football is played this year, here’s how I think the season will play out..

Starting the season playing Clearwater is going to be tough. They are a mini IMG with a good defense, Vero is going to have trouble but it could go either way at the Citrus Bowl.

Fort Lauderdale is a solid but not particularly special team, Vero should have a win here.

I know Venice is my team and I will always defend them. Bias aside, Vero Beach won’t beat Venice on the road with all of their key players and Coach Peacock. We are a solid, good team coming back and I don’t see a Vero victory again, sorry.

Wasn’t Minneola a canceled game last year? Vero should trample them, easy victory here.

Hardee reminds me a lot of Fort Lauderdale, they’ve had a turnaround over the last few years but struggle in the playoffs. Vero Should win this game without much trouble.

Centennial can’t be pleased about the past few years of getting dominated by Vero so they will bring it. Don’t know if revenge match will produce different results, this one could go either way but I would favor Centennial.

A week 7 bye is a good week two have it, coming off a brutal district matchup.

Chaminade Madonna is not representative of South Florida football, their offense isn’t built to score 30+ points a game. Vero victory.

Treasure Coast, my goodness. They have to feel robbed after a one point loss last year. The result should be the same, since the game is at The Citrus Bowl, but it’s gonna be a dogfight.

FP Central is a joke. Not much to see here... Vero should win by 14+

I don’t feel that Viera has the talent to compete with Vero.

As a Vero fan, I can say this, don’t expect much from them this season, it looks to be a down year.  I hope I’m surprised, but offensively they will struggle mightily unless they get some transfers in over the summer.

Defensively they return some key players, but in their district you have to be able to score often if you hope to win.

I can see Vero losing 4+ games this season and potentially not making the playoffs.

  3. Stop trolling, quarantine must be getting to you. Darter is right, if Vero played a schedule like that they’d be sub .500, and I say that as a longtime Vero fan, teams in this area don’t have the talent pool to hang with large class powers like that.

To be honest, I’d pump the brakes on any Vero talk this upcoming season (if there is one.) They defense looks solid, but they will struggle offensively if they don’t pickup any transfers this summer (and your talk of Jay Allen from JC doesn’t appear to be happening.) From all indications, this year will be a down year in Vero and I’d be surprised if they even won the district, they certainly will finally lose a regular season game and end that streak (which I think is good, most around the state don’t respect it, due to Vero’s playoff woes.)

Concerning the "tough schedule=success theory,"...Booker T Washington should have blown Glades Central out of the water last year in the playoffs, and lost.  Likewise, BTW should have coasted to victory in the 2016 playoffs, and didn't.  Plenty of other examples out there.

The law of diminishing returns applies when it comes to scheduling.

I agree, while scheduling quality teams is a good thing, scheduling a murders row just for the sake of doing it can also have adverse effects on a team also such as injuries, diminished morale and exhaustion both physically and mentally. I tend to think playoff success has more to do with coaching, preparation and execution.

Playing in Vero was an incredible experience and their Head Coach is a class act. 35-7 may seem like a walk in the park but Vero is NOT an easy team to prepare for or coach against, they made our defensive staff use their brains. Deerfield is just firing on all cylinders right now and the kids are playing with their hair on fire. Best of luck to Vero Beach going forward.

    Coach,

I wanted to say how impressive the Bucks were last night. Vero has been exiting the 2nd or 3rd round for years, but I’ve always felt they were in the game and if a play or two had gone their way, it could have been different.

Last night this was not the case, you guys were simply on another level and Vero struggled just to avoid a running clock. Best of next week against Columbus and moving forward.

Wow that was an old fashioned arse kicking

Vero was completely overwhelmed, outclassed and out coached in this game. They had no answers on either side of the ball. DB was bigger, stronger, faster and controlled every facet of the game. Congratulations to the Bucks.

good for him and Vero.  Looks like we had another bad official.  Good thing he didn't curse.

The sad thing is he was tossed at the beginning of the 2nd half, it could have had a huge impact on the game, after all- these two teams played to a one point win in OT a month ago. Zero checks/balances on what a referee “thought” he saw- a punch that never occurred. It’s a good thing Vero and their fans film a lot I guess, lol.

I watched the film over and over and could not see an actual punch being thrown. There was a lot of wrestling going on after a strong block by Dawson. I'm told that coach Jankowski is appealing the call, and  if he wins the appeal Dawson will play. If he loses the appeal, it could be a long day for Vero.

I’d be very surprised if their appeal was approved, most video would be from the home side of the field and since this incident occurred on the visiting side it will be hard to see exactly what happened, the FHSAA will most likely defer to the officials call on the field. Dawson will most likely get a 6 game suspension and be out next week against Deerfield Beach.

  9. The VB/TC rematch should be fantastic, the regular season game was won by VB by a point in OT, had TC converted any of their 5 two point conversions they would have won. This one will be played at Vero.

In all reality this is a 1 vs 2 matchup in 8A south in terms of RPI. Vero had 8A South’s best RPI, TC was 2nd, (2nd and 4th in 8A, ) but because they’re in the same district, TC was relegated to a 5 seed.

As a Vero fan, I keep looking past the Boca-Vero game, but it just dawned on me that Boca beat Vero in this years spring game 14-10 which means Vero will have to prepare for Boca a little better.

That was Boca before alot of their playmakers transferred out (Deerfield Beach, AHD, Champagnat, etc...)

    I think you

I think you are underestimating Veros home field advantage...Deerfield should be the biggest threat to Vero in the region....been a while since I’ve not worried about the weather and wind speed on Vero game nights..the run game is a blessing

Lets let the teams get past Boca Raton and Santaluces first, but it’s tough to beat a team twice in one year, Vero was lucky to do it the first time. Vero appears to be more balanced offensively than when they played the first time, however. Hopefully Vero’s run game will be at full strength the whole game this time around (McMillan was gimpy the whole game, and Meizinger didn’t play most of the 2nd half.)

Treasure Coast won’t be affected by the change in venue, all those kids and coaches have played in the citrus bowl many times. TC will be fired up for this game for sure. I know the regular season loss left a sour taste in their mouths as they felt they were denied a timeout on Vero’s tying touchdown during regulation when TC’s Coach Jones was 15 yards into the field of play screaming for one and the refs say they never saw or heard him.

  12. As a Vero fan, this should be the 2nd year straight that 3 of the 4 teams in 8A-9 should make the playoffs (Vero, Treasure Coast, Centennial.)

It got me wondering, since the adoption of the points based systems they are using, is there or has there been a district in which all member teams went to the playoffs?

    • Vero started off slow with a close win over American Heritage, but in the last couple weeks we have dominated over Chaminade and now we have dominated over Viera. The defense  has always been there but the offense has finally come around. We have four excellent running backs, which two are wide receivers. We are top RPI seed in region 3, and possibly the overall top 8A seed in the state. We will have home field advantage throughout the regionals. I expect Vero will have a deep run in the playoffs.

Possible 2nd round rematch with Treasure  Coast may await...
