OldSchoolLion reacted to Beek in The 5 Worst Teams in the State
For Poinciana sake 14-56 as of today, one more game to go this season wednesday. Of the 14 wins 7 (7-12) compared to (7-44) have been in the last 2 seasons. We are working on turning this program around finally and beginning to make progress. We lost at least 2 games that we should have won this year. No excuses! Classifications have been unfair to Poinciana due to the criteria based solely on total student body number. Which I understand. But as we know it is not a true representation of our populous. Poinciana Is now and will be in the foreseeable future independent. We had this done a few years ago, but the AD who thought he knew everything, felt that Poinciana should compete in districts. So he put us back. We left a very bad 5a team and were reclassified as a very bad 7a team. Go figure! Our goal is to finally get Poinciana to be reasonably competitive at first, then we will rethink district play down the road. Why be in a district where there is no chance of winning a game or two, or even being competitive. Being independent gives us total control of our schedule. We have scheduled like teams for the first time next year. Hopefully the results will be better. If not wins, just being competitive help a lot. This is a work in progress. It took 25 years to get this bad, wont get better over night. Especially with school of choice, why would someone choose Poinciana? We have to win before they will come. Hopefully I can update this wednesday night with 8 wins in the last 2 years! EDIT, wednesday's game has been canceled due to the other team having Covid!

Different ways to measure "elite." Some may not consider Pahokee an "elite" program, but there are few teams that have been as consistently "good" as Pahokee over the past 50 years. Notre Dame is similar. Not always "great," but usually always good or better.

In another amazing feat, Madison County beats 1A TOP 25 TEAM Union County.

Some observations concerning the list of games above: 29/35 games took place since 2003, when football went to 7 classes. Only 2/35 games took place when there were less than 6 classes. Many of these games took place in the lower classes. Cocoa is on the list 5 times. No other team comes close. Many of these were first round playoff games. Pahokee was responsible for one and victim of one. The number of 60-point margins of victory we have been seeing in recent years is unprecedented. -

Madison County is on a mission to become the first 3A/4A school to 4-peat as 1A champion.
1A Sneads appears in its first state semi ever when it hosts Baker. Sneads will be looking to win its fourth playoff game ever, but will have a tough task in beating Baker.

With the virus and the FHSAA allowing all teams to go in the playoffs, it shouldn't be surprising when we see a major blowout here and there.

Lake Mary travels to Apopka in an attempt to avenge its loss. It is also the first time they have ever made a regional final.

Over the past 20 years, St Augustine has played in 11 region finals. They have had the benefit of playing 9 of those games at home.

Pine Forest game was at home. Columbia lost region final on the road at Leon in 1975.

Very good and figured you would bring up Columbia's home record. The point is that Columbia does much better at home than on the road when it comes to region finals!

1982 lost to Woodham
1984 lost to Woodham
1988 lost to Pine Forest
1995 lost to Evans
1998 lost to Vero Beach
2001 lost to Lincoln
2002 lost to Lincoln
2012 lost to Navarre
though not sure how road games matter considering Columbia is hosting the Regional Finals which Columbia I believe has only lost in the regional finals once (1990 Choctawhatchee who ended up winning a state title)
Columbia hosted the regional finals in 1997, 2003 and 2015 and won all 3 of those matchups and the St Augustine game next week is at home

4A Gadsden County has made the state semis and will travel to Bolles. Remember, this is the winless team that made the playoffs a couple of years ago via a coin flip. Does not say much for the depth of 4A.
It's not a "first," but thought it worth mentioning. 4A Cardinal Gibbons has only won two region titles in its long school history, and only one of those titles took place in the past 30 years. So, winning a region title when they travel to Cocoa would be huge for CG.

#1 is St Thomas. Venice has the brutal task of visiting the Riaders next week.
#2 is Armwood, and thanks to Bloomingdale, the Hawks now have 3 home playoff losses.
#3 is Bolles, who won on the road tonight at South Sumter. Bolles will be hosting a 4A state semi next week.
#4 is Pahokee.
#5 is Manatee, and thanks to STA, the Hurricanes now have 5 home playoff losses.

Yes. Manatee is #5. And STA is responsible for one of Manatee's home playoff losses, back in 2005. Manatee returned the favor in 2009. Manatee's last home playoff loss was last year against Venice.

Pahokee is #4! Their last home playoff loss was a OT loss to Dixie County back in 2015.
