  1. Yeah, there's really no basis from which to assume Lakeland would be a huge favorite over Armwood at this point. They have been about as impressive as Lakeland as of August 25.
  2. Well, so far this year the halftime scores were: Osceola 36-0 @Manatee 31-0
  3. Have to flag this. Lakeland led STA by 19 with 2 minutes and change to play, having had an easy TD called back, another easy TD dropped and a bogus hurdling penalty on a great run. Central TRAILED STA going into the 4th quarter. They won by 16 on what looked a lot like a garbage time TD. Your memory seems to have faded a bit here.
  4. Most any other year, I agree. This year, only the top 3-4 teams *may* be able to challenge them. Understand that this year's team is the most loaded, nastiest team they've ever had. (And I've followed every other team you may want to mention 1996, '99, 2004-2006 etc closely enough to be able to name most of the final scores without looking them up).
  5. Armwood has looked as scary good as Lakeland has these first two weeks. I have no clue how the playoff points will work. But, if Armwood ends up with a home game vs. Lakeland, that will be pretty epic as far as Florida HS football goes. Edgewater, especially in a home game, will be very tough as well. Class 7A is outstanding this year. It may well be the best class in a given year in state history. And it tilts heavily towards the North side of the bracket. Should be a VERY difficult route to a state title for anyone. But, yes, Lakeland may STILL blow through everyone and win it again. If they do, they will rank among the best teams ever in the state.
  6. Osceola's scores came after the game was 43-0 and 3rd/4th stringers were in the game. Each of Osceola's scores came from their leading rusher last year who's the projected leading rusher this year as well (Dewayne McGee), against guys WAY down the depth chart. So, there's no reason to conclude Manatee is any worse than Osceola. And, there is reason to believe Osceola is a top 10 team in 8A. Manatee losing sophmore RB Kyree Jones for the season hurts. He looked like a young Jerome Bettis. I think a big key will be how they respond to this dismantling. They obviously established zero rhythm or momentum coming out of this game. But Shakir traveled to watch Lakeland-Osceola and tweeted out the lopsided halftime score. He knows, and needs to get his team to know, that they can bounce back as nobody they play will be anywhere near as good as this Lakeland team. The Manatee announcing team (always among the finest anywhere, RIP Dave Bristow) may have been correct when one of them mentioned this may be among the finest teams in state history. They're going to make most everyone look very bad.
  7. I think Armwood is likely pretty sick, while Plant is a work in progress. The combination makes for bad news for Plant.
  8. Of course there were gunshots. It's a day ending in y in America.
  9. @ColumbiaHighFan2017class looks like they played Gainesville in the KOC?
  10. Any more current thoughts on this team? Looks like they changed their name to American Collegiate Academy High School. They play at Lakeland and then at St. Frances of Baltimore in consecutive weeks coming up.
  11. Osceola was seen as a top team in 8A up until Manatee beat them. (Again, I acknowledge NOTHING from calpreps).
  12. There is no such thing as a "top 500". It's a figment of the imagination of the national board (and Ned's) mind. Manatee won a road playoff game against one of the top ranked teams in 8A. They also played Braden River close, even when BR had a star player playing who missed most of the other big games for BR. They were good. I said they weren't great. Somehow, out of that, you've decided that means they "stink". That's stupid.
  13. There is zero evidence to support your assertion that Manatee stinks. Certainly, last season's results do not support it. Believe it or not, there is a MASSIVE world of football teams in between stacked, top 25 national teams and teams who "stink". Teams that aren't national rankings-worthy, but are still good teams. Manatee was a good, but not great, team last year. This year remains to be seen. But, there are reasons to believe they will be as good or better than last year.
  14. As we speak, not only does Lakeland not have any points, they haven't even threatened to score. In fact, they have zero yards of offense! Dreadful!
  15. It's still two of the more successful programs in state history. Manatee hasn't been an elite team the last few years. But, they've also been unfairly characterized as garbage by some of the national board folks. It's a proud program and they should have a pretty good team again. Saying they suck or aren't worthy watching simply because they probably don't have a team worthy of national rankings is absurd. It's bad for HS football, IMO. If it ends up being a running clock game, of course I get why folks would tune away at that point. But, it's 0-0 as we speak
  16. LOL. ANYTHING involving a Florida team vs. a team from another state is automatically better than almost any in-state match up to you. Lakeland-Manatee? Garbage game, Manatee sucks etc. But, Cooper City vs. Ridley, PA? Better be quick to share that streaming link. lol

    Manatee fans:

I just want the lightning to stay away so they can get the game in!
  18. Our Venice fan is playing games with you all. A bit of a Lou Holtz routine. Actually, you could say a bit of a Bill Castle routine IMG's summer free agency efforts probably resulted in a greater haul than Venice's. So, IMG is loaded once again. But, the tricky, up-tempo simple spread offense of Venice may be able to give IMG problems. It's an offense built to score a bunch of points and get a bunch of yards even when the defense they face is a lot more talented than them. Now, having the Lakeland Christian transfer who can sling it, they may be better suited to challenge IMG than the 2017 team. Carpenter wasn't much of a passer outside of the great chemistry he had with Haleigh (sp?).

    Manatee fans:

I wouldn't be shocked by a score like that (though there's virtually no chance Manatee reaches 17 points). But, I continue to maintain that we have seen NOTHING from this 2019 Manatee team. They have a lot of experience (though few seniors) and a lot of size up front to go along with some really fast guys. They are playing at home. And Lakeland is without their starting QB. And, it's August, meaning early in the season before teams have gelled. And it may also be a wet, muddy field. It may very well be a bit of an ugly game for the offenses.

    Manatee fans:

Dook Graham is at his best with the ball in his hands. I think he could end up being a little like Brandon James was when he gets to Gainesville.
  21. From what I gather, Edgewater is similar to Lakeland in that they loaded up with transfers over the summer. All of those transfers is the x factor as to why we see the kind of obscene routs over ostensibly excellent teams.

    Manatee fans:

Eight returning starters on D is a lot. Playing with the home crowd and Lakeland using a backup QB could spell a bit of a defensive struggle. But, Lakeland just has so many special, explosive players that you have to figure they'll make a few big plays on their own. Something you didn't mention that could be huge is Manatee's kicker. If he can get kickoffs into the endzone, he may save the Canes a couple of touchdowns off of Lakeland returns. In general, Manatee will have to do something few can do: avoid giving up big plays on special teams to Lakeland. Between defensive scores and special teams scores, Lakeland may be able to force a running clock even without much from the offense.
