Ray, Osceola did better than I expected, (not being disrespectful) I expected them to have a bit more of their way during your game. Your kids came to play and did a great job. I know what i think of your deficiencies, but the play was good from what i was told. ( didnt see it for myself) Where, in my opinion you needed the most help, against a very strong opponent, your kids did great! Kudos to Osceola! it is about the county if not my team first!
FWIW we were the only Osceola county team to win this week! Not chest beating, and hardly a comparison to talent, but a win is a win!

Sounds like Poinciana should build a dome stadium. UCF and USF can play a neutral site game there
Please talk talk to the district and my ad. We have spent north of 800k to fix our field. while its great.it isnt turf, because another 25k would have been too much. 'talk to the people who control county funds. St Cloud gets a turf field because theirs is in a "swamp" WTF was ours in! Ill tell you... A swamp! we are the underappreciated underdog that gets nothing. We are used to that... Just saying...off the soapbox now..

We are a heavy passing team, even though we have a great running back, and rain does hurt us. I have always stated being a weatherman must be the best job in the world, you get paid 6 figures and dont have to be right about anything!

Give it time. The rain/lightning will show up in time to screw up Friday nights.
Schedule a game at Poinciana, I guarantee in the first 5 weeks it will rain. I have always said our field was built on sacred ground and we are paying for it every week!

Im good with the pre season rankings for Poinciana. We moved up like 40 spots and havent played a game! Seriously, until rankings actually play a game who really knows. The ranking structure is somewhat respectable, in the fact as a 300th place team, I know that playing a 500th place team should equal a win, whereas playing a top 100 team should be a loss. within a certain range, its a toss up. any given friday night an underdog could win. I do use the rankings somewhat when scheduling especially not knowing about a team in question. I look to see where they are ranked. Who they played, wins and losses versus known quantity opponents. When I was trying to build a team with a 1-9 record, I looked for opponents that I felt we had a great chance to beat. Wins do cure a lot of ills. Now that we have had a successful season last year, We are ramping up opponents where we could. As our schedule was made when we were 1-9 and all but 1 team was ranked above us. So the schedule we had last year said by rankings we should have not been successful. But players changed, team attitude changed, culture changed. This year according to the rankings only 2 teams we play are above us. So our strength of schedule will suffer. Next year will be different I hope. With another hopefully successful season we will rejoin the playoff system, and ramp up our schedule to challenge our talent. provided we have any.

Lots of schedules are about to change in Miami Dade County, on 9/22 weekend, because someone overlooked the Jewish holiday. Columbus has to reschedule the MNW game now...
We were asked to move and gladly did, our game vs Horizon as Rash Hashanah starts on 9/15, which is a friday, So we moved the varsity game to 9/14

Is anyone concerned that KOC games (or even Week 1 games) could be canceled or postponed by the heat?
The heat index thing is just for practices, Does not apply to games per my AD

Yes, we were able to go outside, Wet Bulb was at 87 and once the lightning cleared we made it outside about 4:15. We only practiced in uppers for part of the time, then just went helmets, wasnt too hot for pads by wet bulb. but it was insanely hot to keep kids padded up for a long time.

We needed to step up our competition, as the schedule was made 2 years ago. Hopefully you can attend that game!

Poinciana Schedule update! Due to a last minute change, through no fault of their own, Celebration had to cancel week 1 game with us. Long story short, it was not them, but another county's AD that forced them to play another game. Looks like we will be road warriors!
Week 1 @ Nature Coast
Week 2 Bye
Week 3 Hardee
Week 4 @ Horizon
Week 5 @ Tenoroc
Week 6 @ Foundation Academy
Week 7 @ Davenport
Week 8 @ North Port

Looks like that is what Akeem has managed already picking up a couple of offers. Congrats!! Still would like to keep "Popeye" in the fold.
Understand that I have to keep things in perspective. Kids do come and go. Fortunately our less than "state qualifier" team has had positive results with incoming transfers. We have and will continue to gain and loose players. Hopefully we will be able to continue this uptrend. The thing we offer is exactly what you said. not paraphrasing but we give kids the opportunity to be the big fish in the small pond. We have many connections and get kids offers. They may not be the big D1 offers some kids think that they deserve, but we look for a good fit for them, financially or educationally. But since I have been there, every kid that was looking for an offer has received one. I will not say that every kid took that offer as some had inflated sense of worth or didnt want to spend the money. But an offer that is real is a offer that is real.
My plan is that this will be our last year as an independent in fhsaa. If we are able to pull off a successful season, which would be a record for this school. We will attempt to be back in a district and compete!
As for "popeye" he is back at Osceola. Like I said kids kids come and they will go. School of choice is a whole different issue, which is already being discussed. My personal opinions seem to really parallel yours.
What we offer is a place for kids to shine within their abilities. We offer a coaching staff that will work our butts off to get them recruited. Hopefully after this season we will have been able to turn Poinciana around into a team that will be able to at least contend for victories in conference. At last count PHS has only won 3 district match-ups in the schools history, and I was there for 1, as an assistant coach.

Not the RB, He is happy to have the ability to show what he can do on his own! Amir will be a great addition with our new QB...
-
Ray, seems as you may be getting a player back, who played for us in the spring!.... So I have heard!
-
Not that Poinciana matters to this in any way, but even at our lowly level the "transfer portal" has been very active. Kids we played the spring are leaving. Others are coming in. When will this stop? Never as it seems!

What's the story with Discovery HS?
The head coach called me and said that his spring practice’s started out with 25 and dwindled to about 11. The principal decided that they cancel spring and next fall and reevaluate their program. From what I was told this is to be a 1 year thing. So we will see. I really feel for them. The issue is most likely school of choice. I know, in my opinion. Their best player transferred to Davenport before spring and played for them in the spring.

Good schedule for Poinciana. Week 2 bye is the only thing I don’t like. That’s a horrible time for a bye week.
Didnt want the week 2 bye either. Discovery was our week 2 and we had a week 10 bye. It turned out that Mulberry had Discovery week 10. So we just made it fit.

Due to Discovery closing their program for at least 1 season we have had to revamp our schedule. Hopefully for a final time

Week 4 @ Horizon
Week 5 @ Tenoroc
Week 6 @ Foundation Academy

So is your schedule the same minus the 3 teams you mentioned that you replaced?
Week 1 Celebration
Week 2 Discovery
Week 3 TOHO
Week 4 Horizon
Week 5 Tenoroc
Week 6 Foundation Academy
Week 7 Davenport
Week 8 North Port
Week 9 Lake Buenavista
Week 10 Bye
Week 11 Liberty
Provided we can put together another successful season we will be going back into a district after next fall. There was just no point in us being a whipping boy for other teams. As Poinciana has only won 3 district games in the history of the school i believe, dont have my facts in front of me

@Beek would you be interested in playing in that KSA events against a team from out of state?
Yes we would, but our schedule is full for next year. We have played a game with them in the past (Whittier Christian, i was here but not the head coach) Last year we helped them out with a jv game. A team traveled with both varsity and jv, but the school that was supposed to play them on jv backed out at the last moment , when they had already traveled!

qb transfer from another state
2 wrs transfers from osceola
those 3 kids are not real poinciana kids that yall developed.
need to be honest about it and not sugar coat it......

Those were / are poinciana kids. The 2 kids you mentioned are, and have always been zoned for poinciana. I made no proclamation that we developed those players. (Osceola did a great job of that, those are remarkable kids, all around some of the best kids and most respectful that i have had the pleasure to coach.) Did we coach them? yes, Did we set the stage for them to have successful senior seasons? Yes. Did we get them college offers? Yes. The quarterback transfer is a poinciana kid, his older brother played for and obviously attended poinciana. He came to us for one reason. He had played for a state championship caliber team (New Bern N.C.) They ran a triple option offense and he wanted to be developed into a passer. He had thrown for 1258 yards as a starting QB in all of his first 3 years in high school. He threw for 2213 yards in one season with us. I know we developed him as a passer! We took another transfer who was a Junior on jv and a varsity ball boy and developed him into a running back that averaged 5.8 yards per carry! Please dont question our ability to develop players!
So what I am taking from this is we get discredited for having transfers. So that is saying that no school develops transfers. Or just poinciana? When other schools have big name transfers everyone praises them. When we have transfers we are sugar coating it? I am not sugar coating the players abilities. The point of my comment was that because they played for poinciana they did not get as much recognition as they deserved for what they accomplished.

Yes. Loss 12-0
-
I was at that game. Toho was honestly outplayed. The score would have been worse if Celebration didnt have their best receivers ejected for being stupid. Upset, yes. But it wasnt like toho was missing players or made 1 bad mistake.
We have played Foundation 2 times since I have been at this school. We lost both games 2017 22-21, 2021 52-0. But I totally agree with your assessment of them.

When the game was scheduled they were ranked 460 versus our 550. We have defiantly made some strides since then. this year they are ranked 396 and us 310. I use rankings for comparison purposes only as I said before, rankings dont play games and dont take a lot of things into account.
Using this system we should win. Calpreps projected Poinciana 28 Avon park 17. So who knows. Rankings and computer models are not very good at the high school level.
Akeem Knox had 12 carries for 118 yards and 2 TD, only played a half.
We will be tested this week against Nature Coast. We will see.
Here is to Swint recovering healthy and fast!
