All to often, we focus on the teams that are getting the transfers.  Typically, those teams pick up a guy from here and a guy from there.  In looking back over this thread, however, it appears that one team has basically lost it's starting defense to transfers.  Assuming the twitter announcements are correct (especially The Crib South Florida that we see compliments of Columbia Fan), and I have no reason to suspect otherwise, Hallandale has lost the following players (and I don't know which service is passing out the stars down there):

    6/12 - a 4-star DB and a D-1 commit DB (both to Miami Central)

    6/16 - two LB's (both to Central)

    6/16 - another 4-star DB (to Central)

    6/22 - an OL/DL (to South Broward)

    6/29 - a 4-star safety (to Central)

    7/11 - three DB's and a DL (to Killian).

What the hell is going on?  Did a Hallandale coach recently switch over to Central?  Do they grow DB's on trees in Hallandale?   By my count, Hallandale has lost 11 defensive players, including 7 DB's in the past 30 days.  SEVEN!!!  a three of them apparently were considered 4-star players according to somebody.

Seriously, what's going on down there?   Is this just a classic case of the mice jumping ship once one or two leave?

My perspective, more than meets the eye.

I’m not going to hate on the kid for doing so but the fact that that is allowed is ridiculous.

I agree 100%, but as others have pointed out in earlier post our legislature has legalized it.  Our man from Columbia deserves cudos for spotlighting this problem involving both public and private schools.  I think it is an easy way out for kids when things get tough or uncomfortable.  Pro sports builds super teams, recruiting in college is a sleezy endeavor, the transfer portal now and high school is going down the same path.  I hate it.  I would prefer we took our lumps every few years when personnel is down to have an even shot those years when we have talent.  I will still bleed Blue & Gold.

  3. Undoubtedly a very good player, that's why he got a fair shot last year and he was right there.  I think he knows we have a couple of other kids to mature into the position if an injury occurs.  My guess is he would have stayed if that wasn't the case.  Both those kids at Freedom will certainly enhance their chances at winning games.

Based on his Twitter page, Osceola's backup QB, Blake Birchler, is now at Freedom High. He's actually a pretty impressive QB, both from an eye test, and from watching his highlights. I understand the move as he only got limited playing time last year and he is going into his senior season.

Although in Orange County, being that it is in South Orlando, Freedom was a convenient choice as he probably did not have to move in order to attend Freedom. Personally, I think he could have started at a more impressive program. But at this stage, it is probably about just getting more exposure.

He actually split time with Mascoe early on last year before they decided on a clear starter.  They also had a freshman/incoming sophomore that was 3rd string and he looks to take over once they were gone.  So this year they were probably going to give him more reps in mop up duty.  Blake's dad Scott is our varsity baseball coach and that is his main sport.  He will be at Freedom for a semester before returning home to play baseball for OHS.  Freedom also got another good player from us named Roshaun Dudley RB.  He could be considered a starter here but with limit touches with the ball.  He went to West Oaks Academy last year and in the state championship game they won he rushed for over 100 yards.  He was self center and wanted the ball 20-25 per game and with our new offense that wasn't in the cards.

Well, it happens here with several public schools alot and does go unreported.  I don't do twitter,  instagram or other social media sites where these kids communicate so don't have the ability to report more like you do.  What you are doing is a great service for others to open their eyes to the reality of these events.  It then is undeniable that they are not all simple transfers on the kids part, but their is some recruiting involved by certain teams by hidden means.

Both of these to DP where in the Sentinel Sports section, so they were open about them.  Rumblings of additional ones but don't have solid info on them.

  7. Most of you have probably already seen it, but if you missed it DeMario Tolan committed to LSU today on CBS sports at 3:30pm.  As I mentioned earlier in the thread he will make an impact as a 4 star player at the LB position for Dr. Phillips.   We aren't thru summer yet so maybe those of you that monitor Twitter pick up on any additional transferees for them before fall workouts.

  8. Outside of Nick Bosa who everyone knows, the greatest defensive tackle I ever saw was John Brown from Lakeland HS in 2006.  Everyone was aware of Rainey, Pouncey twins, Ahmad Black, etc.  But in my estimation the best player on their team was this beast.  That year they won state and national honors but had their hands full with our defense at our place.  We bottle Rainey up the entire night until he broke off a 70 yard run with a couple of minutes left in the game to beat us 7-3.  We had Bubba and other talented players, but this guy was unblockable, blew thru our OL and constantly tackling our backs behind the line of scrimmage.  He had size, speed, strength, instincts and tenacity.  Florida took him along with a bunch of his teammates, but he never took the field for them.   He was as dominant as Bosa without a doubt, but nobody probably remembers him.

He was. Earlier in the season, I had watched him against East Ridge which was decent back then. He racked up over 200 yards in the first half before he was taken out of the game. The Knights literally could not stop him despite stacking the box.

He could have easily increased his stats his junior and senior years, but we had some other really good backs and if we were in command at the half, he would sit the second half.

  10. Willie Green was the other great back we had although he didn't have Bubba's break away speed he had everything else.  In his 4 years of varsity play he ended up with just under 8,000 yards for his career placing him 4th on the all-time Florida list right behind Emmitt Smith.   He played thru numerous knee injuries thru his career, hiding that fact from even his coaches.  Florida Gators took him not knowing how bad these injuries were and so he never really was able to show his talents once he got there.  5A player of the year 2 years in a row and probably would have been the Florida Dairy Farmer's overall player of the year 2 years straight but was edged out his junior year by, you guessed it Anquan Boldin.

  11. In our county hands down it was probably Kwamaine "Bubba" Brown running back that gained 2405 yards in 2007 and was selected the 5A player of the year for the state of Florida.  He had it all, vision, quickness, balance, power and break away speed.  If you look his highlights on YouTube video it will knock your socks off.  The was signed by Kansas State and went the JuCo route but never made it out the back end.  We lost one of our most important players in the semi-final against Bartram Trail, T' Bell our QB and SS (went to Auburn) but they had no answer for Bubba.  We ended up using a LB (Marc Deas-Georgia committ) at QB and all he did was handed off to Bubba.  The following week in the state final we faced Aquinas and they knew that was all we had offensively.  Bubba had been nicked up (ankle) for a couple of weeks so they stacked the box against him.  He still gained 160+ yards in the championship game though we lost by a couple of touchdowns.

  12. I brought up DeMario Tolan earlier on this thread as it would be interesting to find out how he landed at DP.  The kid grew up in St. Cloud, but played the last 2 years at Toho.  His HC at Toho was an OHS graduate and terrific LB that got a full ride at Univ. of Ga.  The coach left and the team seems to be suffering as he is starting a new program at a private school.  Tolan is a 4 star recruit with some big time offers from the likes of Clemson, LSU, Tennessee, FSU, etc..  If he was transferring , how did he choose DP over say our school in the local district?  We do have a 2 year starter returning at one spot and 1 year starter at the other spot, however the 3rd LB was a backup last year.  He is young and has talent, but obviously not on the same level as this kid.  No doubt we have definite playoff aspirations and he would be an asset.  Makes you wonder.
