  1. I agree that publics are as guilty if not more so than privates TODAY in the recruiting wars, which you constantly point out correctly. Again to add context, historically that wasn't always the case. Privates had that advantage because parents have a right to send their kids to a private school if they can afford it, so they have always had that open door policy with no repercussions from the FHSAA no matter where the student came from cause it was perfectly legal. They began building quality teams with high quality enrollment then started adding star power thru scholarships to under privileged kids (stealing them from publics) to put them over the top. Publics eventually began to try and counter that thru whatever means necessary. So my criticism has been consistently that they had the advantage early on and used it, eventually forcing some of the publics into what now has evolved into school choice. Privates created this monster and that is my beef. Publics are catching up so a school like Bolles that was so dominant is still excellent but have to now beat teams that are on a more level playing field and their path to a championship is more difficult.

  2. Publics eventually began to try and counter that thru whatever means necessary. I can't speak for the rest of the State, but here in the Orlando area, it's pretty hard to name more than a few starting QB's that are still at the same high school where they started in 9th grade. Recruiting is the norm, rather than the exception that used to get coaches and programs in trouble.

  3. Glad that you have come around to my way of thinking when it comes to 7v7 tournaments translating to great success in 11 man football. It seems that, in this day and age, most teams are looking for athletic QB's that can throw a strike at 50 yards and also pull the ball down and pick up valuable yardage on the ground. It's hard to evaluate a kid's scrambling ability watching him stand in the pocket in a 7v7 game; same goes for the Twitter videos of a kid throwing to a lone receiver 20 yards down field. The true test of a QB's ability can only be seen when he has to play under pressure of a "real" football game.

  4. Glad that you have come around to my way of thinking when it comes to 7v7 tournaments translating to great success in 11 man football since last summer. Some coaches actually believe that it is detrimental to the development of a QB although it is beneficial for WR's and DB's.

  5. Transferring to Cocoa, he should definitely see an upgrade in the talent around him. The guys in the trenches are going to be very important. In 7v7, it's basically a passing drill with no one in your face, so it's hard to draw too much from 7v7 college camps; same goes for "all-star" teams playing 7v7 in the off-season. There's not a lot of parity in local tournaments. With tackle football, it usually comes down to how the QB reacts under pressure when under a pass rush from opposing DL's and LB's

  6. Well really my main point is that I feel as if people target private schools whenever they get a transfer but these same people say nothing when a public school gets a kid from a private school In my view If it's recruiting ANYTIME a private takes a kid from a public school than it should be applied the same when the roles are reversed I wasn't aware he was from Miami but with the rising rent prices in SFL and Jacksonville job market has grown it's possible his family got a similar paying job up here with more affordable housing and made the move and once researching schools in the area decided that TCA was the best option You also mentioned military and with the Navy base up in Jacksonville that could explain it but in terms of the transfers in addition to Hurley, Riverside also got 3* DL Bryce Capers from TCA so 2 impact players from a private school within a few weeks of each other in addition to kids from Ribault, Jackson, Parker, Creekside and Oakleaf but if it was turned around TCA would be accused of recruiting

  7. Don't know if I qualify as an "OTHER", but the main thing wrong with your argument and you continue to not believe is that Private Schools offer scholarships to top football players. That does nothing to enhance their financial position, because they are not collecting tuition from them. Parents of these kinds of kids do see it as a PLUS because they will receive a better education than their local public HS, but they are being recruited for their talents on the field. Prime example was an extremely talented receiver from our Poinciana area (Lamar Patterson) that ended up at St. Francis Academy in Baltimore, MD. His family would only make this type of move if they were offered financial assistance. Hated to bring his name up as he recently was killed in an automobile accident on his way to school, so apologies to the family and RIP Lamar.

  8. The part of the equation you are conveniently omitting is that TCA probably lost that 3*QB to Riverside because they were bringing in Colin Hurley to that private school; probably projected at a 5*. Now, I will readily admit I don't know where he was zoned to attend but we can all agree who got the better deal. Can the same case be made for the TE/DE/LB that STA lost as opposed to who they got?? So yes, publics do the same but don't expect me to feel sorry that somehow privates are being demonized unfairly because they lose players too. When that happens, they usually have been upgraded.

  9. Never said we didn't have any, just not as many. Plus, if you look closely we do more rodeoing than shooting.

  10. Sooooo what you're REALLY saying is that STA is like a roach motel? Players check in, but they're not supposed to check out

  11. I was at the Seabreeze vs Winter Park Spring game expecting to see an offensive battle with two of the higher rated QB's in Central Florida. Blake Boda did not look impressive going "3 and out" on Seabreeze's first four possessions. At the half, WP was up 20-0, clearly outplaying Seabreeze on both sides of the ball. At 27-7, early in 3rd quarter, WP pulled almost all of their varsity players. Final score was 34-14. Blake was not the best QB on the field that night. He should have a stronger supporting cast at Cocoa, but it makes you wonder if the Seabreeze HC is still hyping Blake as "the best QB in Central Florida", now that Blake has moved down the road.

  12. All of the schools that benefit from an influx of transfers also lose transfers all the time. Roughly 95% of the time, the players they lose weren't good enough to get as much playing time as they want, because there's someone else better than them at their position. Lakeland lost two running backs this off-season, both of whom figure to get scholarship offers. There's just substantial movement of players all over the place.

  14. Dang this is this kids 3rd private high school in 3 years. American Heritage Plantation, Aquinas, and now Cardinal Newman. I guess he's trying to figure out which private school in the area has the best education.

  16. Gonna look at some film on him if he got great hands & size & technique to go with that size he’s gonna be a PROBLEM especially in Short yards to gain situations. but he is brand spanking new to football so can’t expect that much but at Dillard I know the coaches gonna have him RIGHT come august.

  17. Exactly and I couldn’t agree more before the last 2 years DILLARD has 4 different football coaches in 4 years 2017-18 Head coach hemming way in his last season at Dillard (6-5) first round playoff exit 2018-19 under first year head coach toriano Morgan he took Dillard to a (8-3) regular season record and a first round playoff exit to MIAMI central. in 2019-20 my near & dear friend finally got his varsity head coaching opportunity & he led the panthers to their first ever (10-0) regular season record and led the panthers to the reigional finals for the first time since 2001, before suddenly passing away a few months later #LLE 2020-21 another well known and respected panther got the head coaching job in Tyler tate who was the OC for chaminade during their 4 Pete. and since taking over 2 years ago TATE has Gone 17-2 lost only 1 regular season game a (23-14) lost @ STA last season. And hoisted the first ever tri county title in 2020. Point of the matter Dillard could have crumbled but they used that adversity and become what most thought was long gone at Dillard a POWER HOUSE FOOTBALL PROGRAM.

  18. Killian fell apart because their coach left Same reason with Riverside Notice STA and Central both lost coaches with huge impacts on their success and have managed to keep their rosters intact, same with AHP to a lesser extent Programs who lack stability crumble easily, you know this because your rival is the perfect example of this

  19. Na we rarely if ever lost them to DFB it was mostly to STA, then AHP. we had already got 4 transfers from AHP & two from out of state before any DFB players transferred

  20. Stuff like that happens up here in Duval County Riverside (formerly Lee) got a bunch of transfers from Ed White starting about 2015-2016 as well as Terry Parker, Westside, Andrew Jackson, etc just as Ed White was doing the years prior Now most these players are starting to head back to Ed White and Riverside (Lee) is losing their kids coming off a Coaching change and a massive graduation class after their transfer team ran out of steam and fizzled out Some teams get the crop for a bit but then when things fall apart for whatever reason either the previous team starts snatching the talent back or someone else comes along and takes their place
