Wouldn’t say they were down.. They just wasn’t dominant as prior STA teams.. Don’t believe on the star hype... All of them don’t be what the rivals or 247 tank them.. alike I say i go by what my eyes see..

I'm not a hater I'm just sick of people acting like St. Thomas Aquinas can only lose when they are "down" or screwed over by zebras

Above is your original quote. You are complaining that STA fans will always say it was a down year or that they were screwed by the refs. I changed it to "I'm not a hater I'm just sick of people acting like St. Thomas Aquinas their teams can only lose when they are "down" or screwed over by zebras ,

Because somebody on these boards, believes the only time their team loses is if refs/umps screw over their team. Thus acting exactly like the STA fans.  Thus it isn't an STA issue it is a universal issue.

How could I forget about Kenny. Yes, that was probably the best high school defense I ever saw. There was no weakness on it. The day after Edgewater beat Deerfield, i went to the Orange Bowl to see the other state semifinal between Carol City and Killian. Killian had a bad ass running back and a big offensive line. The only managed to get into Carol City territory once in the whole game which ended with the Chiefs winning 3-0.
I knew watching that game that Edgewater was going to struggle to score against Carol City, as earlier in the season they had struggled against a very good Mainland defense, losing that game 13-7. That Mainland team was its only state champion as they beat Naples in the 5A title game.

So your saying STA never earned it? Idk how y’all precede STA around y’all way but ain’t nobody down here look at STA is big and bad.. When the opportunity comes teams play them win or lose and yes they were some suspect calls from that Venice game but I’m not taking anything away from Venice... They won and I can tell you go by the star system as I go by what my eyes sees... Them star rankings dont mean nothing...

How many stars awarded for just being at STA though?
I know scouts and coaches look at the film, they look at measurables like height, weight, speed, jumping ability at all of these combines. I am not suggesting I could do their job better than it is already being done, but stars do not mean anything. How much easier is it to beat a blocker when the guy on the other side of the line line is getting two blockers because he is a 4* recruit as well. How much easier is it to get open when the other 4* WR is just as good as you ande demands double coverage?

Sometimes, I do think these rankings companies have a little bias towards a big name program that consistently produces recruits (which then becomes a self-fullfilling cycle of recruits).

Don't get me wrong, these recruits also produce consistent wins, but this is also why the Division 1 (64 team division) would be great. Great teams facing great teams.

    2 things happened
1 STA did not take Venice as serious as they could have. Based off of players they shouldn't have. In such they did what I think was poor job coaching. If you watched the game or saw film STA could have run the short passing game all night and threw screen passes to put Venice defense in a disadvantage all night. They ran those 2 plays in the last drive successfully.
2 Conditioning of athletes and the long ride. STA showed up got off the bus and started into routine. It sucks making that drive. Venice knows that from experience. The conditioning of running no huddle paid off in the late 3rd and all of the 4th QT. Dumervill could barely keeps his uniform on straight much less get back to the line of scrimmage before the next play.
In the end the Venice kids do more with less. They grew up after the loss the year before and proved they were not a flash in the pan.

Below is a breakdown of the top juniors and seniors on the roster at St Thomas Aquinas this past season.  The years listed after the names are years spent at the STA program.  All were seniors unless noted otherwise. As you'll see, much of their talent is home-grown.  They only got 3 higher profile players who transferred in to play this past season (in bold).  And as loaded as they are at LB and OL, I don't see how those two transfers made a huge difference in their overall performance.
Aquinas has gotten three high-profile players to transfer in for this upcoming season...Mariano Valenti, a 3-star QB form OOS, Braylen Ingraham, a 4-star DE from Dillard, and Avery Huff, a LB from Hollywood McArthur.
The data clearly shows(at least to me it does) that STA is not getting substantial amounts of top tier upperclassmen from local public schools and is not overly reliant upon transfers to reload..at least not in the recent past.
Please let me know if any of this is incorrect.

A superstar athlete can alter a landscape.  The question is how often it actually does.  For every example we find, we can find an example where it does not.  Oftentimes today the superstar athletes are playing on teams that already have a lot going for them, so it is difficult to discern how an individual's performance is contributing to the team's overall success.
Derrick Henry of Yulee is one of the best examples of an athlete who could have changed a landscape.  His team struggled to win in a in relatively weak classes.   I believe Trinity Catholic destroyed Yulee while he was playing for them.
Don't necessarily agree with the statement above in bold.  I think we put too much emphasis on individual talent.  A 4-star WR on a team that runs and/or with a marginal qb is only going to be so effective.  Chaminade possibly had the best receiving corps in the state this year, but if you look at the numbers, their performance was not that extraordinary from a passing perspective.

Good morning Gents and any ladies on the board,
The first high school ranking of the year was released yesterday. The state is represented pretty well. A few surprises and head scratchers, but hey...preseason polls are a crapshoot and this poll is computer based. The one that stands out the most to me is, Carol City not making the list even in the top 150. They have one of the top QB's and RB's in the county and maybe state. The defense will be solid too. They are my early favorite for 6A. It will be between them and Central for the district I believe. MNW lost their all-world QB to graduation, so I don't expect much offensive production from them. Defense will be good though. As far as my Rockets. I'm not sold on the QB...At all!!! RB's and WR's will be really good, even with the losses to the transfers. OL will be better, especially with big baby getting into the rotation. If you don't know who he is, just check out what he did a few weeks ago to this one kid at a camp at Cardinal Gibbons...it went viral. Even ESPN played the clip on their Twitter page. So without further delay, here's the rankings and you all can form your own opinions...

    Soul Bowl #2
In 1998, #1 ranked Northwestern met Jackson in the state semis in a game known as Soul Bowl 2.  Over 35,000 attended.  Down 14-2 with 2.5 minutes left, NW hit a bomb to bring the score to 14-9. NW did not recover the onside kick and with no timeouts left, the game was virtually over. After three plays, Jackson had the ball on their 24 yard line with 10 seconds left.  Jackson's coach called for his punter to turn tail and dash for his own end zone to give NW a safety.  Instead of inserting his punter, who had already fumbled once in the end zone, he called on the sure hands of his back-up quarterback. Junior Ronnie Jones lined up ten yards behind center and waited for the ball to fly into his hands.  He didn't wait long enough. Jones, who was in for his first play of the game, began to run toward the end zone even before the ball reached his hands. The ball fell to the ground, where it was swarmed by players from both teams. When the pile was unknotted, Northwestern owned the ball on the ten-yard line -- with six seconds left to play.  Now the game rested on one final play. Northwestern's offense lined up in a tight formation. Quarterback Sheffield took the snap, stepped back two feet, planted his cleats in the turf, and lobbed a blimp toward the south corner of the end zone. Northwestern receiver Antonio Bryant raced to meet the ball while jockeying for position with two Jackson cornerbacks. Bryant, taller than both his foes, was also savvy enough to stop suddenly and position himself in front of them. The ball landed in his outstretched hands as he fell to the ground.  Bulls 15-14. NW went on to win the state title.

I hear like 40,000 were at that game. If I remember correctly Jackson pissed away the game in the dying moments.
