  1. Sufficient resources are not put into these rankings for them to be meaningful, particularly at this stage. They are a nice curiosity and stir debate, but that is all, really.
  2. Apopka won its first state title before the latest stupid expansions. But I know you know that. I guess what I am saying is that every so often (maybe once every ten to fifteen years), Apopka produces a team that has a chance. Of course, it still needs a bit of luck. You want the other major threats to be down in those years as APK can never match certain teams when they are at their best!
  3. That is a terrible lack of sportsmanship. If I were an administrator at OTC, the coach would have to answer to me and it would not be pretty!
  4. I hear like 40,000 were at that game. If I remember correctly Jackson pissed away the game in the dying moments.
  5. Venice was a pretty nice place to watch a game, too. Was there for the Braden River game two seasons ago. Not sure I would want to attend this year's game, though!
  6. Not Price Waterhouse, Deloitte, thank you! You got to go with the best!
  7. Many. Most Dade County public schools don't have their own facilities. The ones that do are mostly in the South and South West part of the county. A number of North and Downtown Dade schools use Traz Powell. Among them are: Miami Northwestern, Carol City, Norland, Central, Booker T. Washington, etc.
  8. Manatee is a pretty tough place to visit. It's not the fan base, per se, but it's the way the stadium is set up, and just the overall aura of the place. Dad's stadium at Tampa Plant, is another pretty intimidating place. The fans pack the place and the stadium is small and brings the fans very close to the field. Apopka's fan base can be pretty rowdy, but I would not say they are especially intimidating.
  9. St Thomas staged an incredible comeback in the 2006 game in the final quarter and turned what had been a comfortable Lakeland win into a nail biter. The son of the Lakeland coach was the QB and he was just a game manager. I think at the end, St. Thomas was stopped right at the goal line to preserve the Lakeland win.
  10. They want to use Max Preps because it would be a lot of work if they did it themselves. The problem with Max Preps is not that the rankings are computer based, for in most cases the right teams would be selected in all material respects. The problem is that the Max Preps data is often inaccurate. So, if Max Preps is to be used, there would have to be a lot of changes in the way in which the data is entered and the degree to which Max Preps authenticates it. I don't see that happening because CBS which runs Max Preps does not want to sink that kind of resources into it. Just my opinion, though.
  11. Pretty sure it was! So the answer would be: Emanuel Cook like Muck City said.
  12. If memory serves me right Apopka gave up 300+ passing yards to Cypress Bay in 2012. In that game there were well over 1100 yards of combined total offense by both teams with Apopka over 600 yards. I know they also gave up a bunch of passing yards to Columbus in 2014, but held them to negative rushing yards. Not sure if it was as much as 300, though.
  13. They are the Purple Hurricanes not a tropical depression. Have some respect for your rival!
  14. It's not Apopka. In the 2012 State title, APK racked up a lot of passing yards. Well over 200 and possibly over 300 as Zack Darlington had a night for the ages both passing and running the ball. Two big catches come to mind in that game. A long toss to Ray Ray Smith for over 70 yards for a touchdown and a big catch by Trey Hendrickson for well over 50 yards as he out jumped a defender. On the first play of the game he also had a 40+ yard toss to another receiver whose name eludes me at the moment (Jacob Whitlock?) to set up the first score of the game.
  15. Regarding Tim Shifflet, he took over from Larry Gergley as head coach at WP in 2007. So that would make him 11 seasons there, with the 12th this year. Prior to that, he was a coordinator under Larry and was also with him at Bishop Moore before that.
  16. I have a lot of respect for Buckridge and his staff. Most of them coached at Boone under Ziegler at one time or another. They know their football and make the best of the talent available to Timber Creek. It doesn't hurt that the TCHS community supports its athletic programs.
  17. Actually he asks questions on all areas of the state. Yes, some of them seem critical, but I think you are being oversensitive.
  18. It's either him or Jim Buckridge at Timber Creek then. Darlington was away from Apopka for three years when he coached in South Georgia, so that's why it's not Rick.
  19. Fighting for what's right is never easy. I believe you could do it and I will even volunteer my time to help your campaign!
  20. You need to run for office as soon as you are able, Columbia Fan. I think your heart is in the right place and you would try and shake up the corrupt politicians in the State Capitol!
  21. There are some 7A schools in metro Orlando, too. East River, Lake Nona and Edgewater in Orange County. Lake Howell in Seminole County and several Osceola County schools, including Gateway, Harmony, etc.
  22. They will be as good as last year from what I saw in the spring game. Depending on who the QB is, they could be very dangerous in the air as they have a bunch of good receivers.
  23. 1. Miami Dade has a big edge with public schools, as its best consistently compete for state titles. 2. In aggregate, Broward County comes in second. However, its public schools are no better than Orlando, Hillsborough or Palm Beach. It is the privates that give them the spot. 3. Orange County, top to bottom, probably beats out Hillsborough and Palm Beach. However, Hillsborough's two best are more consistent than Orange County's best in terms of deep playoff runs. 4. Hillsborough, at the top have great programs. However, the public schools lack depth. They have some decent private schools. 5. Palm Beach would have ranked higher a decade ago. However, with the exodus of sugar from the muck, Pahokee and Glades Central have fallen off a bit.
  24. Yep, in 2012, Apopka probably had its greatest group of sophomores ever.
